I'm used to this one being for Soprano and Alto duet. But still quite fantastic. This part of the Matthus-Passion constantly reminds me of the fact that Bach is just better than us.
This is one of my favourite moments from the St.Matthew's Passion. Another one is the Alto aria at the beginning of the second half - 'Ach, nun ist mein Jesus hin'. I've been trying to find this online as well but with no success. Can anyone help?
Simply wonderful singing all the way around. I have this DVD and it has given me many hours of enjoyment. Michael Chance is a falsettist, who is an alto. Some falsettists are sopranists and they all can be called countertenors. The point is that they are using the inner edges of their vocal folds to create this false sound just as a string player can lightly touch his instrument and create what is called a harmonic. As for the root voice of any falsettist, there is really no pattern.
This duet is sung after Jesus is captured by the soldiers:"So is my Jesus captured now (loose Him, do not hold, do not bind him)Moon and light are quenched for sorrow, Because my Jesus is captured. They lead Him away, he is bound."
I listened to it over a year ago... and again now... I'm impressed by the choir because you can really understand what they're singing. It's an oratorio after all and it *should* be that way... Great.
I think Johann Sebastian Bach would have been impressed by the soloists and the choir! I am very impressed both by the soloist interpretation and the choirs rythmic perfection.

Zaraz po zdradzieckim pocałunku Judasza Jezus zostaje pojmany.
I wtedy ...ta piękna muzyka.

Soliści i orkiestra słodko i współczująco a chór woła głośno o uwolnienie!

Yeah seriously they should have left the video a bit longer to let the last note ring out.

nice ongoing tempo, nice clear recording. Only the entry of the male singer was very ugly. Choir has a very nice pointy and sharp quality.

This sounds really beautiful. Any ideas as to where I can find a translation? I wish I could get the gist of what they are saying.

Chance is not a soprano, as is Paradowski; he's a male alto. And countertenors are usually baritones, rather than tenors in their basic voice.

Bach is absolutely my favorite composer; -- and his Great Mass my favorite music.

No...he's a countertenor!!

You know, this is not such a clear distinction... There are a number of ways to describe this kind of voice, a countertenor is one of many.

Is he a soprana tenor??
Aplusinskal 4 years ago
You may say that by the way he sounds - tenor is a male soprano.
