I honestly thought when this song came out it was going to start a whole new trend in Hip Hop/Rap (I don't know what it is) to make it pretty and smooth and soft. I'm sure this was the first rap song suburban white girls heard and liked and made them run up to their black friends at school and say, "I like rap music". I guess this sound was a cul-de-sac and not a new direction. I've haven't heard anything this pretty since.
I also remember the 90s as being very afrocentric in a positive way. How did we go from dreds and fades and braids and twists to wearing other people's hair as fake weaves today? I've never understood how that happened. The 90s had so much soul and pride. It's like we went backwards after the 90s, back to hating our natural hair and bodies. It's sad, really.
On the rock tip, there was a kickass fusion of rock and rap happening that was the bomb. Rage Against the Machine etc What happened?
damn this sucks best song ever and it only has 1.7mil views.. how is it possible that a sneezing panda can obtain / have 125milion views and its fake videos pulling 3-5mil views.. and this song has only 1.7mil :(
@BartsBeatz Thank you! I couldn't believe dude typed that. There's not enough crack in the world to bribe a crackhead into saying something like that.
@oberonprime1 You didn't type that. You didn't just type that. A teletubby could sing the "Mahna Mahna" song in a helium voice and still sound more authentic than this chump. Dude's lyrics are more weak than 7 days. I've seen better rappin' come from beneath a Christmas tree. The only good thing that came out of them was when KRS-One threw them off stage.
@Sleepyfist LOL!! I normally don't laugh at something that I totally disagree with but your comment did make me chuckle. I would not try to compare this song with rap. This song was popular on radio at a time when most people were listening to the end of the hair band days...the era of 90s gangster rap had a few more years before it became popular - which I wish never had.
@celebfan2 I hear you but PMS Dawn basically took what the Native Tongue movement (Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul etc) were doing and sprinkled fairy dust over it. Not even dust, more like fairy sugar sprinkles. The video is like some kind of Spring Shower soap commercial. Almost 2million views? This is like some Rod Sterling dimension. Soft rap is cool if it's something like:
@Bigvader lol ive still got tones of tapes and they still work, had bits of radio presenters talking at the end of the song which i tryed to stop before they came on ha...loved pm dawn wish they were around now!!!
@oomoonbeam LOL! I hated it when the damn DJs would start talking before the song was over. You sit there for God knows how long listening to the top ten just to get to your favorite so you can record it, get through almost the entire thing, proud of how quickly you were able to hit "record." Then, when there's still half a chorus left to be sung..."Rising quickly from number five to the number 2 slot, that was P.M. Dawn with 'Set Adrift On Memory Bliss..." Me: "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! lol
@Brivonn1 Did you tape Live Aid, too? I had to actually set the clock to remind me to switch tapes every 6 hours so I could get the whole 18 hour event on three tapes on 6-hr speed.
@Bigvader OMG and I use to record the hell outta songs off the radio! I stayed with my RCA and Sony cassettes all clear and ready to record! And I use to get the ones that comes in different colors just so I know who which radio station or artist I recorded LOL damn I miss those days!
don't compare drake or other similar music from now with this because this is straight up, innocent and damn cool just like brianab31said and thats what the 90's would help to stay TRUE and PURE just like the 80's stood despite anything nasty trying to get on top of hitlists or whereever its trying to crawl up and overwelm its nastyness directly or indirectly like it is with most music nowadays incl. drake etc.
i know i was only ten when this came out..but I really really do miss this 'era' of music. I'm not saying this was the BEST era of music, but it just brought such another level of peace and love. you dont hear that type of music anymore.
i'm sorry this is wack. if i was the same age i am now when this came out i would NOT slap this. this is like the equivent to Drake, big sean and other corny rappers out now. think about who else was out around this time.. Rakim, LL, big daddy kane, Tribe, etc. this is corny as fuck lmao.
@dlklfhd First of all really Big Sean and PM Dawn really? I could maybe see Drake cause he's more sensitive type music but not Big Sean. Second Just cause they're not rapping about some gangbangin shit or the hood which in all honesty has been done to death for like 3 decades doesn't make it corny. Not to mention I bet you everyone of the people on your list respected PM Dawn.
@SumFreshDkaf word, drake is probably a better example. but tribe wasn't on that hood shit, de la wasn't either. but they were dope. this is that super soft Prince blouse music.
@dlklfhd nothing really wrong with soft hip hop music....i mean you have to be versitile.....look at LL he made mad soft hits...but when he needed to spit hardcore he did....look what he said to cannibus
@MrMarvel0us true. but this is so soft its borderline r&b. i just can't get with it. it's classic now because of how old it is but this would have gotten no play in my whip. don't get me wrong i dnt like to sit and listen to hyper masculine aggressive shit all day but this is just embarrassingly soft. like this is that fingernail polish music. lol but yeah it does provide a balance i agree.
@dlklfhd i guess i digs this song and just found out that these guy lived down the street from me. but i digs how the remixed a classic song and mad a hit...yea this is a soft song id play it if i was kickin back with a shorty...but i think LL's "i need love" was way softer than this...and beside that alot of new artist has a similar flow like pm's
damn this track always use to make me think of some fine beautiful woman doing a seductive dance for me with her waiving some sort of see threw panty scarf.. around
Many years ago I turned to a friends roommate and said I thought I looked a little like the fat guy from PM Dawn. It caused him to blow molten hot wing sauce through his nose, he never spoke to me again, that's the way it goes... I guess.

@el6todelgadopinto Esto es el tema original, pero samplean True de Spandau Ballet, en la base y en parte de los coros, si es a lo que te refieres.

sample based tune are only as good as the sample they use. "True" is already a fine song, PM Dawn flipped it and made it funky!
