Yes, Mick was an outstanding musician but IMHO, he just wasn't dirty enough as a player to compete with Keith's downhome, funky old soul. . the Stones are about personality, not technique. . .no disrespect intended to an excellent guitarist
My goodness, Mick Taylor's lead playing was something special. Fast and perfect timing. Great songs with his playing made this era of the Stones the best by far.
JUST THINK THIS CAME OFF OF A SOLID ALBUM WITH BRAIN JONES , STILL IN THE BAND , !! BUT I THINK MICK TAYLOR ADD MORE LIFE TO IT WHEN THEY PLAYED IT LIVE BACK IN 69 OFF GET YER YA YA'S OUT LP. THE BEST LIVE ALBUM EVER TO DATE . STILL ROCKS YOU . ****
@McQueensMustang mate ,as much as i love mick taylor ,(and jagger can be a tool)..they cant replace him.hes been the voice of the stones since 1962 ,he leaves its all over
I dearly love the Stones but I'd have to say that though they refined and perfected "bad boy" within rock 'n roll, they were predated by Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Little Richard, and of couirse, Chuck Berry...ALL serious bad boys in song and deed.
You're right, The Stones weren't the first bad boys ever,... but Brian Jones (formed the band with Mic, and taught Keith R. and the rest of London how to REALLY "Party") was probably the first "modern era" mega-addict that made it really big. A genious musician, by all accounts, (many instruments), but drugs made him paranoid & surly, also he couldn't write, so Mic/Keith wanted him out & conspired. They then aggrandized the image most successfully.
This rocks! I love this version. I can tell you're just 13 years old...I don't want your ID...you say you got a friend who's wilder than you ? why don't you bring her upstairs? if she's so wild she can join in too...
This was '71..and the song came out several years before that. NOBODY was this controversial this early (I would say only Morrison came close!).
There is NO doubt--these ARE the original bad boys of rock!!! And yet, so GOOD..!
And who would YOU define as the "original bad boys of rock"?
The Stones were around before any of the OTHER bad boys of rock (who all pretty much copied the Stones--because the Stones set the template!). Morrison is the only one who comes close--and he was a contemporary.
I'm not saying that they set the template for "rock and roll" which started in America--I'm saying that they set the template for the "bad boys of rock" .
I can't think of anyone who was more thoroughly BAD than Brian Jones, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards (and Morrison). I cannot think of anyone "Badder"--nor anyone among rock's other "bad boys" that did not simply follow in the footsteps laid down by these original archetypes.
@RosalitaBU8 I can't think of any other band at that point who were as openly rebellious, as angry, or as explicit and reckless as the rolling stones... from england
This is not just "logic", this is historical fact.
And no, the continent of Africa had not one thing to do with America's blues, rockabilly, country, gospel, slave chants, worker's songs, zydeco, etc. that formed what Alan Freed called, "rock n' roll".
no, it isnt. the stones were influenced by black musicians in the states, being the inspiration does not mean you were the inventor. they blended it all to create their own music. so who are the original 'bad boys'? muddy waters and robert johnson?
There is no greater rock n' roll band in current existence than the Rolling Stones. I've enjoyed them in concert a total of six times, on a total of four different tours. I love the Stones.
But, they were NOT rock n' roll's first. They were not the first "explicit", not the 1st "reckless", they were not the first "bad boys".
Awesome--but it sounds like the tape is running a tad slow.
Even so, the way they changed this from a Velvet Underground inspired rocker on Beggars Banquet to a cool blues groove is killer. Mick Taylor totally shines!
Yeah they rocked it up here and on the live Get yer ya ya's out album. The Stones were at their pure Rock and Roll peak in this 1969 period, what do you say...
Very nicely put together. Love the sound. Someone told me that Howlin Wolf records sound best on a quiet night down the block, and I think the audio reproduction here is a good example of when a mic is set up in the back of a hall how good that can be. Cheers.
Johnny Winters Studio version John Dawson Winter 111, makes this sound sick, it's true.
