Toshiba A300, 15b - hands on benchmark and review

i've had this for 3 and a half years and recently it started to abruptly crash and shut down on its own. i've kept notice of the temperatures as it happens, it doesn't exceed 80C (we all know that our laptops reach something like 100C for this to happen)..

for the first year you cant get fingerprints on it, they just fade away. then they start to show up, all the prints you made previusly.

mines better i got the A300-1MC which has HDMI supporting 1080p signal format has lights AND its lasted me 2 years, im using it to write this now, connected up to a 23" monitor through hdmi with 1080p, and its doing great. but anyways theyre pretty much the same...

As far as I know all notebooks don't have the same webcam. Some of them have 0,3 and some 1,3 MPIX. Before you buy your notebook pick up info about hardware and built-in webcam. You can find it on Toshiba support page.

For instance, my Satellite A300-1LI has 1,3 MPIX.

I own one of this copy and it is a must buy laptop for people luking for business / home user or office laptop and also not really a gaming laptop but it can cope up for the new games so sound also like a gaming lapto;p becoz it is equipped with intel gma 3100 and other option which turns this thing into a gaming laptop a radeon equipped gpu and also mine dropped 2 times not even a single physical or internal neither software damage it did'nt even got scratched anyway its as high as my lap,

it is by far the best laptop/computer I have ... everything loads instantly but I'm not much of a gamer so sorry can't help you on that subject

I have this model but with the HDMI version. It's pretty good, hacked the driver and allowed it to use the maximum potential of the graphics card.

Its a really good Laptop...But i had mine for about 6 months and then it started to be buggy...When i turned it on it just turned itself off...i don't know why..It's getting fixed now, and they said it was some trouble with the harddisk...>_>

I just bought a A300-06H for a christmas gift for myself ($1000) and its identical to this cept its got a pretty swanky design on it and its a grayish white.I think its only available to Canada (Bestbuy) but im not sure.Having probs finding alot of info on it tho.Its got Dual core,4G of ram,and a 320G hardrive and Radeon HD 3470.Any ideas?

I have this laptop and have had it for just over a month. I guess it's ok for gaming but please do not bother with it if you want to use it for photo editing. It just can't handle running Photoshop Elements. It freezes then crashes. I am taking it back to the store tomorrow and getting something else instead. It may be just that Vista is crap.

In replyt to hamza1991, Vista takes so much memory to run the damn thing. People aren't "Downgrading" its just that Vista isn't as good as XP Pro!

The store I bought it from were very good and understood why I thought it was crap for my uses. They then offered my a Sony Vaio as a straight swap and waivered the £100 price difference and restarted my 2 years warranty again.

So lets try again shall we!!!

I am in no way having a go at this laptop as others may think it ideal but for photo editing, it's crap!

I started out with a HP. That was misold to me thats why they gave me the A300. Now they have given me the Vaio.

I'm not sure if you have it in the US but it's John Lewis. It's a large dept store but the customer service is the best I have ever witnessed. They want to help so much and never want to lose a customer. I won't go anywhere else!!!

There is one in Brent Cross, yes. But it's not the one I bought mine from. I live in Bristol. I guess that they are all the same in regards to customer service.

The Vaio I have is £780 which isn't bad especially when I originally spent £649 on my first laptop and there was nothing wrong with it!!!

lets put it this way. xp uses less processing power than vista, so that extra processing power will go towards the games you play lol, but be warned, i downgraded to xp with my a300d 15b and my wireless in my laptop isnt working. it only works with vista

Have a look at the HP Pavillion dv5t, I think its a better buy. It has higher resolution (1440x900) and better graphics card (nividia 9600 gt). Also, the Dell XPS 1530 is worth a look at.

I use mine for business but note, its not light--especially when you have to lug it up several flights of stairs--to get to the office. Also if you want to play crysis you will have to play at medium quality with at least 2 graphic features at 'low'. I've found you'll still maintain good frame rate if you turn shadows and one other feature (not including shaders, they put the 'b' into beautiful graphics) to low. Use directx 9,it allows higher framerate, without sacrificing eye candy.

I've got one of these, the a300/m00. Basically the same laptop with 2gm ram and ati hd3650 video card with 512mb. One of the best purchases Ive ever made in my life. If you want a laptop thats good for study, business and some gaming on the side--at a good price, go for this one. On the other hand, have a look at the HP Pavillion dv5t. It costs a little bit more but has better screen resolution (1440x990) and graphics card (Nividia 9600m gt, 512mb).
