  • has mr. hind changed his making of this ocarina? i just got mine and the mouthpiece isnt separate like yours. it blend the walnut gran on the top piece

  • greensleeves + serenade of water = awesome

  • sorry i dont like this ocarina

  • YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • YOU ROCK

  • Just got this ocarina a few days ago! So far my impression is: Awesome!

What songs would you say should sound well on this ocarina?

  • does he make any like this but smaller?

  • @HGClark yeah he does but they are a little more high pitched, I have a smaller one and I LOVE it! Charlie Hind is Amazing!

  • seems to be tenor/ baritone am i right?

  • hmm i dunno which to get this or the muse :S i want a more mellow sounding than my DT.

  • Why did you take down your older reviews?

  • che morro estas deforme we

  • This will be my first oc. Thank 'y kindly sah.

  • celtic carol bad ass run through (i played it on first trumpet in high school)

  • i have this one i saw him the other day=].. i also have the really small one...but im wondering what type of songs can be played on here and i know they have ok songs but im wondering what type of difficult songs it can play

  • @cat19831 :

You can pretty much play anything - after a fashion on an ocarina. If you can whistle it, you can play it.

The best thing about this oc is the velvety, creamy sound as Doc says. This is an excellent oc for people to play if you live with someone and don't want to disturb. A whisper of breath produces a sound. Also you can drill the fipple end for a lanyard.

  • @pkneeno Yeah its weird i play flute but can't whistle. One song i really want to learn is the lugia song on tenor but im not sure how. I've tried by ear like i do with my flute, and i kinda have picked one some songs by ear, but that one is really tough. but im thinking about making them. Mr.Hind told me how and im thinking of making some and seeing what i can learn. I really enjoy the sound of the ocarina and i hope to learn some more songs soon.

  • When was the last OcTalk! episode? Make a new one! I want to know some good songs for a beginner to learn.

  • sorry for asking but by any chance can you speak a little louder?

  • Your videos are very informative! :-) I plan to get a Hind walnut ocarina, and I think the tenor is the one I'll get. This video helped me decide. Thanks for posting.

  • why do you have your eyes closed when playing? thanks so much

  • i dont know why he does but do the same, it helps me concentrate

  • idk why but watching you play with your eyes closed freaks me out lol

  • COMPRA'T UN AMIC DE DEBÓ

    HOLY SHIT

  • dude, thats tiny

  • If you laid it out on the keyboard it would stretch all the way from A to Z!

  • what is the last song called? O:

  • srenade of water :P

  • yeah!!! men it souns great, i never see that is really good

  • David, i'm confused. On your standard transverse you pretty much always keep your left hands little finger on the hole at all times. Why is it not the case with this ocarina??????????

  • its cause that makes the music go 1 note lower so he probably needed to because idk if u cud do the fripple bend and btw david YOU RULE AND NOW IM A PRO AT OCARINA

  • Ok firstly, you mean fipple bend. That only works on an alto transverse.

Secondly, pro? Not with your lack of understanding...

  • The reason is because they finger differently. On a transverse, your left pinky is used for a high f, and subholes are used to go below the tonic. On this inline, since there are no subholes, they dropped the highest note, eliminating the pinky being used for high F, and instead used it to go below the tonic.

  • Ah, thanks. I have no idea when it comes to inlines XD

  • you played green sleves so good

  • Would you recomend this for someone who has never played an ocarina before? Yes, I do mean myself. I do have SOME experience on wind instruments (If barely knowing how to play a recorder counts, that is) if that makes ANY difference whatsoever.

  • I imagine that playing this ocarina would be almost similar to playing an ordinary flute. Am I close to right:)?

  • do have any ocarinas for sale?

  • where u from homie?

  • electric dreams the duel hee hee

  • Beautiful Eye's // Jennie :)

  • please please do a review of the hind walnut double ocarina!!

  • I wanna get this ocarina, but i'm a little iffy about hind, because so far, i haven't seen much info on the ocarinas(but i need ti search harder.)

  • Trust me, Charlie Hind is an amazing craftsman and is completely legit. You can email him personally too if you have any questions!

  • I live in denmark... can i buy an ocarina?

  • I don't see why not...

You may have to pay a little extra for shipping, but nothing should limit your buying an ocarina.

  • man you are god

  • just wondering what was the name of the second song that you played i love that song but i never found out the name

  • Greensleeves! (It was in the comment description, fyi.)

  • hey where do you buy your ocarina ???thanks

  • there is this thing called google you should try it..

  • if you watch the whole video he tells you at the end!!

  • The link is in the description, If you're talking about where he gets all his Ocarinas check out choosing your first ocarina.

  • what a sweet soothing sound...

  • your reviews are very informative, thank you!

    keep making them!

  • I cant seem to get my 10 Hole Walnut Tenor to play the low 7... can someone send me a message on how to get it to show more? :S

  • 7? do you mean stl tab 7?

the ocarina has only one subhole i think

  • What... when every hole on the 10 Hole Walnut Tenor is covered it lpays the Low 7 in tabs... I want to know how to get it to show more... I think I got it but idk...

  • I'm thinking of geting this one as my scond ocarina what do you recomend...

    P.s. right now I have a 12 hole tenor

  • I have a 12-hole tenor, what color is yours? Is it the (bland) blue, or is it like, brown and yellow, cuz thats the kind I have.

  • I have a blue one... I guess I was lucky lol

  • Green Sleeves is Great, you are very talented too!XD

  • i got

  • how many ocarinas do you have==???

  • OVER 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! j/k but seriously, I wonder if he gets em for free if he promises to promote them on youtube? if so that would be awesome. Keep up the awesome work DJ4!

  • yeah man seriously you should count them because only on videos i've seen about 15 or something

  • umm actually he got 20 or more

  • its says on his channel, its 20 i think

  • i like pie

  • cupcake ftw!

  • THE CAKE IS A LIE!!!

  • Do you find it hard to cover the finger holes? More specifically the left pinky?

I just got my alto in the mail today and whenever I move my pinky for a lower or half note, that slightest movement seems to make the rest of my fingers move just enough to totally screw up the sound.

Have you experienced this? Or is that problem non existent on the tenor inline?

  • Are you using a sweet potato or inline right now? Sweet potatos this tends to happen more often but after a while your fingers loosen up. Same with the inline but if you do little finger excersizes to kind of stretch them and make the fingers move in different directions without an oc it usually helps for better pinky finger reaching abilities, lol :D Usually with inlines though it is a more natural feel like with a clarinet or something of that nature :D

  • im using the alto inline.

i dont have a problem with the subholes on any of my other sweet potatoes, but then again this is my first true inline.

  • See I used to have problems with Saria's Song on my sweet potato cuz I couldn't life my ring finger alone :D But on the inline, if ur having problems just do lots of excersize on your pinky, lol strength train :D push stuff around with it lift it individually or give your pinky growth horomones, lol I was doing that for a week when i got my first sweet potato :D

  • It sounds really nice, but it looks a bit... manufactured. The woodwork is beautiful, though. Mainly what I look for in an Ocarina's appearance is a natural, organic form, but I guess all that really matters is sound quality & playability! Oh whatever...

  • omfg i want that one

  • wow u are really good

  • thanks for all the helpful information i engoyed listening to you play im thinking about buying a indian flute and i saw the ocarina i play harmonica and some piano for personal enjoyment i really love the sound of the indian flute it has such a rich sound and is perfect companion for taking walks by myself at night im really thinking about getting a ocarina

  • I want to get the hind sweet potato alto, but it's so dang expensive. I mean really, 375$ is a little high.

  • nice green sleeves!

  • I have this cheapo plastic one. It sounds so bad compared to this.

    BTW, I love Greensleeves.

  • good tutorial

  • how dare you play that in F?!

    :)

  • I just got this ocarina for my birthday! It sounds so much more beautiful in person (not that you didn't play well, because you did).

  • haha lol conjurama XD hehe i have to get them all too :D

  • Your not making this any easier for me to choose! Oh well, I guess I'll just have to get them ALL!!! Bwahahahahahaha! Just kidding, I'm really not creepy!

  • ah i just dont know which one to get Q_Q

  • ok...i thought it might be kinda like dog whistle

  • i play bagpipes so would the ocarina be loud compared to them

  • no...

  • haha me too. my parents said learn a instrument so i thought bagpipes. they were serious lol

  • its true

  • is there a c4 :O?

  • that's really amazing!

  • omg..so its like all flat? ...any tenors tuned to Bflat?

  • this ocarina has a hint of kazoo in it or you can say to much vibration a more mellow tone is best

  • your playing is great

  • you are magical

  • Wow, I always like the wooden ocarina sounds more than the clay ones. I own a collection, but I only play a few of them, like the English Pendant, and the Ocarina of Time replica. I am definitely going to order this one.

  • wich is the second song

  • Greensleeves

  • I have a question, do yu make it vibrate (the sound) or it does it by it self?

  • I Like this dude. he has a great ear, and I wish I had one like his, although mine is farely ok..

  • zelda

  • I know about heat and cold; winter's a real bitch to cello players. Do you know how many times I had to retune my cello last winter because it was out of tune EVERY time I got it out? ((The cold would contract the wood at night when there was no heat on in the orchestra closet, and then when the heat would turn back on in the morning, the wood would expand. Every string would slip. -.-))

Anyways, this is a neat one! I might look into it in the somewhat distant future.

  • THATS THE SNICKERS SONG lol

Alas my love u do me wrong to cast me off so courteously

...i think thats how it goes

  • no it's oh discourteously :D and the real song goes, what child is this that lay to rest in mary's lap is sleeping? This this is christ the kind whome shepards guard and angels sing... so on and so forth :D

  • I wish I saw this before I ordered the ocarina off songbirdocarina... that really sounds nice

  • i love the sound of it. supa kewl

  • do u know how to play an american ndn flute j|w

  • my older brother plays the ndn flute really good he made an album

  • what are the names of the songs u played? love classical masterpieces, pleace share the names :)

  • 1st few were just lil warm up pieces. 2nd was Greensleeves, 3rd was from zelda (Water theme i believe) ^^

  • i think u saying minute 1 34 or so is greensleeves, but what about the one at minute 1.06?

  • not really sure on that one :/ srry

  • the one at 1:06 is minuet by bach

  • My sweater has green sleeves... is it a song about my sweater?

  • Well, according to the descripton of the video ¬_¬ its Bach's Minuet in F. C'mon guys!

  • i jest got my 8 hole today

  • what are the songs you are playing here and how long have you studied music esp occerina

  • im elerjic to walnuts so am i ok with playing a walnut ocarina?

  • The isntrument is "painted". What's the right word for "lackiert"(german) in English? :D

In otherwords, don't bite or scratch it and you'll be perfectly okay.

  • I don't care for the wooden ones in this style. They just look like weird recorders. Anyway, one should worry more about humid and dry air rather than heat or cold.

  • marry me!!!

    jajaja

  • The way you play it is much like an ordinairy 10 jole sweet potato.

But I think it sounds much sweeter than my potato.

But you see that in Mr Hinds prices too.

  • 1:33 is awesome. isnt that greensleeves? coolness.

  • Alas my love you due me wrong....

  • and cast me off discurteously

  • to cast me off discourteously

  • cool

  • Wow! Where did you get one of these? please reply! I really like ocarinas and I really want one for my birthday! this is amazing! T.T simply amazing!

  • I dont really like this kind of ocarina to be honest, dont get me wrong some people can play them beautifully, I just don't like wood ocarinas, they sound to soft, or warm for me. But still great work. There just not for me.

  • YEAH MAN i might be a boy and normaly girls will love your greensleeves but dude that BLEW my life away i just got mine from a veery speacile site ok then i bought that one coz its cheep its desent and i accedently droped down the stairs just one little chip can from the bottom about -- was the size of the chip

  • Your lowest pitch sounds out of tune? :S

  • vibrato on ocarina is pretty much just doing bursts of breath instead of one constant stream

  • How do you tune an ocarina?

Do you just cut some holes, and make them bigger tell its the tune wanted?

  • i say he is useing a mixture of his diaphram and back of throght.

  • I'm a string player, how do you do vibrato with your breath?

  • I think he's using his diaphragm to vibrato.

  • i think diaphagm is more of a singing way for vibrato. i play sax and use more of the back of my throught along with a slight movement with my mouth. I'd imagine this be similiar.

  • Diaphragm, same as with flutes.

  • the pattern of ur breathing sounds like its part of the song :D

  • god i love greensleeves

  • greensleeves ftw

make a video of you playing the whole greensleeves song please

  • that looks reeeally easy to play...

  • I played Bach's Minuet in band, but it went by a different name.

  • What was that first song he played? It sounded quite familiar...

  • was he playing minuet 3?

i recognize it cuz i play suzuki piano

  • cool

  • right i figured that, actually i messaged Mr.Hind yesterday and he said "basiclly don't leave it in your car on a hot day, treat it like you would yourself and it should last for generations" so im thinking of getting a hind...

  • what is the easyest ocraina to play on?
