In the end, the Vietnam War brought nothing to anyone but killings and massacres on both sides. The Vietnamese people are still living under a dictatorship that has changed their name from "Stalinist-style communism" to "crony capitalism".
Both North and South Vietnam tried to assert their claims that their government represents the rights of all Vietnamese----but in the end, both of those governments massacred and killed their own people---Ho Chi Minh killed off innocents Catholics and any Vietnamese who were suspiciously pro-West, while both Diem and Thieu mauled down Buddhists, anti-war pacifists, and any Vietnamese who were not contributing to the "war effort".
The main cause that led to this war is the arrogance of the foreign powers during the Cold War---the Soviet Union, China, and America----all preaching their own ideologies and drugging them down the throats of innocent Vietnamese people---who the only thing that they want was the right to own and run the country. The Soviet Union, China, and America have made the Vietnamese people into proxies to kill each other in order to benefit these three nations.

This is a very good and provocative video with a special message. The former American prisoner labeled the Vietnamese as primitive people and stated: "they make a mess of every thing." The message, to me, was the parochialism of the American people. Only Americans die, the rest is "collateral damage." Perhaps the Iraqis will also be labeled as "primitive people" and accused of "making a mess of every thing." The juncture in the memorial joins the sadness of the two peoples.
I'd also set the official comments against the feelings shown in movies such as "Sir! No Sir!" A lot of soldiers didn't share the Us Good/Them Bad view of the war.
Often one (us/deserving/western) side of a story is glorified, and the other (them/non-deserving/non-western) side gets omitted. This piece acknowledges the fact that there were losses on both sides, and gives a voice to the silenced....Thank you for sharing and I hope that others might have the courage to do what was done...
