i'm not being a smart ass when i ask this, but what's the point of having such a high powered amp when you run it down at 50W ? isn't there a more appropriate offering from mesa or is it all about the deep switch on this or something.. honestly, i'm gassing beyond belief for one of these as a i'm a major MCIS tone fan, and i really need you to tell me it's not necessary !! lol

It's all about the deep mode and the mixture of KT88s and 6l6s.

I've never had a problem at low volumes or having the headroom i need on stage.

@4711shaun2 The difference between 50w and 100w isn't as loud as you'd think. Doubling the watts does NOT double the volume.

Dude, I'm a HUGE HUGE HUGE tool fan. This combo sounds seriously incredible. But I can't find a strategy 500 poweramp anywhere, do you think that another marshall or mesa poweramp will do just as good? Thanks so much, I'm either going to buy this rig, or save up for a Diezel vh4.

Honestly i've owned a 2:90 and it couldn't touch the Strategy 500. I've never heard another amp like it. Keep checking Ebay!

Is it possible to connect a preamp to combo amp and use this instead of the "inbuild" preamp?

It should be. It depends on the combo you're trying to use. Some combos have a power amp in jack which allows you to connect the output from the preamp straight to the power amp on your combo. Otherwise this can usually be achieved by connecting the preamp output to the effects return jack.

I personally think the JMP can manage it if you hook it up to a tight poweramp (mesa, vht). I know for sure that the engl 530 can't take it...

i've have different kinds of preamps... I've had the JMP-1 since I started playing guitar... I bought the ENGL 530 a cupple of years ago, but sold it 5 weeks later... Some say the JMP-1 sounds thin, but the 530 sounds thinner. You can get them both modified... but from the box the JMP-1 sounds much better and are more versitile. I've just got my JMP-1 modified and now it sounds so good I'll never sell it. Even though the 530 would probably sound better modified, I'd still recommend the JMP-1...

Great tone! How did you get the strategy 500 to sound so good at bedroom levels??

I always run the power amp hot and the preamp low. It helps alot with heating those tubes up.

The Mesa Strategy 500 is my poweramp. Best power amp i've ever heard. The Deep mode is always on for me.
