That an SK-5? you know, as I look around, the people who trash talk CS kukri's don't seem to own them. those who do own them seem to shine. Perhaps it's niiave joy - but it seems like a strong and interesting correlation... thanks for chopping trees down so we could see it work. the edge hold up well?

@andrewengstrom Yes it holds up well. Just make sure you don't get the angle to much \/ tapered or itsy bitsy chips will form. If you want an edge for chopping the factory edge is perfect. If you taper it too much past that like i did then it will become unstable and may chip. The best way to sharpen this knife is with a 14 inch mill bastard file and then go over it with a wetstone as it is clampled in a vice. For in the field sharpening I carry a 4 inch file to touch it up.

Although if you want a great alternative the Kukri Magnum Machete makes a great tool. And also can be sharpened with a machete. it's also lighter weight. i reccoment sewing a fastex leg strap onto the sheath and a fastex buckle sewed on for a belt loop makes it removable if you want to take it off without having to take off your belt. The real kukri does what the machete can not. It works just as good as an ax. And it's all the protection you will ever need if you encounter a hungry coyote

But for me I had coyoted try to eat me when I was little so I carry a Ruger 10 22 because if I fall down and break a leg I want to be able to defend myself from the seated position untill help arrives. Now you could do this effectively with a CS Gurka Kukri but having my 5 pound gun (thats loaded weight) makes me sleep better at night. Correction.... The Kukri magnum Machete and Cold steel Gurka Kukri are both excellent woods knives. They are both easially sharpened with a file by clamping it into a vice or sharpen them while you have them stuck into a tree.

More trees have already started to grow back and already 4 ft high and i have to clear them too just to maintain the area. You should look for dead standing trees instead of live ones. When i go survival camping i mostly always find enough dead standing wood to sustain my fires, you just have to look around and scavenge. Also you should rotate 90 degrees around the trees a couple times and finish them off with kicks, saves your hands a bit.

It might have taken you 5 minutes to cut them but it took 5 years at least for those trees to grow. Looking up for dead standing wood makes more sense.

I chopped down those trees so that they would be dead trees. I cut them up into 4 foot long pieces and left them to season. that was summer 2010. I've been using them for easy firewood this winter. And it's been a very bad aweful cold winter so I burned them all. So the cycle of life continues. You want to make an omlet you gotta crack a few eggs. The same goes with clearing a campsite and making firewood. A real woodsman plans ahead. It's firewood. I still love the Kukri. Perfection!

This knife makes a hell of a throwing knife too. I don't have any footage yet but wait a while. You throw it from the handle. it's a hard steel so this may just break it oneday but I had to see. It's not safe to throw a sword either however it is more fun to use your equipment this way.

I'm very happy you pointed out the wrist action. this short sword takes chunks out of anything with just a flick of the wrist. However for even larger trees do what 100 says because yes once agin he is right. All is subject to personal preferance such that everyone will find a method that works for themselves..

Also you may fall on your sword but most instances of this are probable suicide. Know first aid and if your gonna be dumb you gotta be tough.

I have lost it a few times leaving it on the ground. it can dissapear under leaves and underbrush in an instant. In such instances its best to sit down and look for the silver blade.

Pulling a small tree down towards me works with the lil-medium ones however it depends. Run from the big ones and NEVER do it with the dead ones. And check for widow makers in live trees before pulling it down. I wouldn't recomend a novice start pulling down trees. They don't know how to do it safely.

There are no rocks worth mentioning in south alabama. I've never seen felt one even in pits 50 ft deep. It's more convienant to stab the soft sandy soil even if it dulls the edge just alil. I dig with my knives. I abuse my knives. This knife has not chipped. It makes an excellent improvised shovel because you can grab it with two hands.

I should do a review on all the knives that have failed for comparison. I've been carrying the Kukri a few months. It's more sword than knife! :)

there's a few things I advise against doing:

don't stab your knife into the ground, as you may hit a rock and will either dull/chip the blade/tip.

don't leave your knife lying around unsheathed, as you may slip/fall and land on it or in your case with it stuck in the ground, trip and cut yourself on it at the same time.

don't pull a tree down towards you.

also you use a lot of wrist action, try swinging more with your shoulder and waist for more power and reduced stress on the wrist.
