Which double are you guys referring to? There is a pirouette at 2:42 that looked great to me. The one at 2:52 looked fine. On the triple at 3:03, sure she came onto demi-pointe on the third turn, but she kept turning and the audience most likely didn't even catch it. And the triple at 3:11 was fine considering the fact that she had a soutenu coming straight out of it. I thought all four pirouettes were great...
but she is a gorgeous dancer. very bright, and it looks like she's really enjoying it. but her musicality kinda made me feel, uncomfortable...? i can't put my finger on it, but something just seemed really off with her musicality.
i admit, when she fell out of the DOUBLE i was like omgsh wth. like, the triple maybe, but let's be realistic here guys, a PRINCIPAL falling out of a double from fourth. like, they're a piece of cake even for the corps... i do understand sometimes you just have a bad day, but a paying audience doesn't really care whether you're having a bad pirouette day or not. they paid, they want clean doubles. but yes, she's not a machine. and crap happens. it's not like she does it all the time anyway.
I can't believe I'm commenting again, but i don't even think she fell off point. It looked like a clear double so I'm not sure where these comments about her falling are comming from. O_o
Besides dancing is not about the tricks you can do to show off perfect technique. Some of the best and most respected performers have not had perfect technique. Like Margot Fonteyn for example. Diana has incredible musicality and wonderful stage presence. She is an amazing dancer and I'm pretty sure she has great technique considering she is a principal in Russia and with ABT. I've seen her live and she's done four pirouettes effortlessly so don't go saying that she's not capable of it.
No one can deny that Diana is an amazing technician. I've seen her live and her technique is simply amazing. Also she has such stunning musicality and artistry she is a very pure ballet dancer. I love her!
U 2 are so stupids, dont you listen to the music!!!she does 3 because its what the tempo requires!!!U should know about ballet and music to say those things!!!not everyone has her talent
@maisumnomundo ok i get why people disagree with you, but i also get what you're saying. the fact that she fell from a DOUBLE and then she fell from a triple as well, was not good, it's true. double pirouettes on pointe should be an absolute piece of cake for any principal. but at the same time, nobody is a perfect dancer, and things like that happen. it's not like her falling out of a double happens all the time. besides, she probably beat herself up about it afterwards anyway.
I think the fact that couldnt do three pirouettes was really a serious mistake, she's the principal and three pirouetes for any experiente ballerina isnt a big deal. That was NOT a good performance.
@maisumnomundo she doesn't do 3 pirouettes so its not a good performance? c'mon, that was stunning!!! and haven't you heard of choreography? can't you even begin to consider the fact that maybe she did only 2 'cause that's the way it was choreographed? just 'cause she's a principal doesn't mean she HAS to show off all the time...
@maisumnomundo i understand what you mean, but i just don't think it's enough to call it a bad performance. i know she's expected to be practically perfect and the triple pirouettes, if attempted, are assumed to be within her abilities, but, in my opinion, that was just a minor thing when you look at the entire performance... and, btw, the falling of point can be debated, i've seen prima's do pirouettes en relevé...just saying, not trying to fight.. =D
@maisumnomundo i don't think you understand. To critisize someone of that level, you have to at least know the point of view from the inside of ballet, so to speak. I'm just saying that you've got to understand that humans aren't machines and Diana Vishneva isn't any different. She could have had many reasons for not doing a triple pirouette. For example, it could have been the choreography, or she lost her balance, since like i said before, she isn't a machine. OR she might have had an injury.
Please just don't critisize unless you know the reason. She is a wonderful ballerina and she is a very beautiful dancer. Diana Vishneva works hard every day to achieve this so to say that it is unnacceptable is just...
I'm not trying to pick a fight, but please keep in that mind ;)
@maisumnomundo you have missed the entire point. Vishneva here is sooo radiant and..absolutely inspiring to watch. If she had fallen on her bum during the pirouettes it wouldn't have mattered. She is a true artist, her dancing such a gift to humanity!
@maisumnomundo but 2 not so good pirouettes is definitely not enough to make it a bad performance. i think the positives definitely outweigh the negatives here.
she's lovely, so graceful! you have to see her doing the fouettes in don quixote, she usually dances the hard version with doubles and arms in the third. she's brilliant.
I am sorry but this was not a good performance. Maybe you are all blind? She fell off her pirouettes and could not hold her simple balances. I am sure she is lovely at other times.
Vishneva is the only Kirov ballerina of the current era whom I always love to watch; she's versatile, musical (unlike so many of her compadres) and she doesn't put on airs.
I really love her! :)

@jinpitakki33 Maybe her musicality makes you uncomfortable because it's perfect and you aren't used to seeing perfect musicality.

@aremet31
my dear if she had done two clean pioruetes it would be ok. I know the coreography, I know its suppesed to be doble pirouete at all times.
BUT, didn't you watch the video??? She tried to do the triple two times, and she felt off the point before the third pirouete ( see 3:02 and and 3:12)
She tried to do tripple and she didnt manage to do it! and YES, I think thats unnaceptabel for a prima ballerina!

i agree, so many dancers arent musical at all; they're just trying so hard to get their legs high, sometimes they look like kicks.
