just look on phonearena, gsmarena ,mobile review they all say innov and renoir is over N86 in photo quality.....i mean there is no 8 Mp camera that takes better pics than innov 8 in daylight conditions.I agree that N86 haves a good camera and that it takes better videos but the photo quality is one of worst just look at the pics the are smudged specially in landscapes
Well, the one thing I *will* admit is that Nokia's image processing algorithms suck when it comes to greenery/grass/trees - everything gets smudged to high heaven. The N86 will win if you took 100 photos in all situations and light conditions though - it's a super all rounder.
yeah your right maybe N86 is better overall because of the video and stronger led but most people are using there phone for shooting in daylight conditions and there innov/renoir are better(renoir even in dark conditions and video resolution) ,sometimes the pics look even better in fullsize....And N86 is to late on the market it should have been released in the last november to be a real success....I would have bought this phone if it had exactly the same specs, xenon, and candybar shape
Eh? In our tests on AAS, the N86's photos were better than the INNOV8's. Sorry, still disagree. The INNOV8 is pretty darned good as a camera, but the N86 is better - AND the N86 completely trounces the INNOV8 at video recording.
I think Nokia needs to start from scratch on the OS. Symbian2 better not be the same OS with a UI thrown in. People are moving to the Iphone,Android, PRE.
You mean the E75? Nope, not had contact with Nokia. I simply started yearning for a good qwerty keyboard again and tried using the E75 day to day. Plenty of downsides to the E75, but the keyboard is pretty darned impressive. Not for everyone, though.
Great show, Steve. Must admit I quite like the music from the Symbian Foundation bit at the end. The N86 seems quite good, early firmware aside. One thing though, did Lee Williams tell you when he can show you that prototype?:P
Steve ... 1st off this was a SOLID show!! Of all your previous interviews this was an nice impromptu and intimate interview very relaxed and answered a question I've had and understood the answer before getting "oh the places you'll go" is my blog post on this.
Symbian^2 enables the ability for more GUI impressive feats but nothing major - look at the SE Satio and what its capable of as a hint - superb really and unique doesn't follow iPhone like so many other companies do at so many levels.
early firmware :(( un update ?
gavrilaeugen 2 years ago
Of course. Hey, it's a Nokia! They do take an update or three to really get going with a device. As do Apple, I should note!

the n95 8 have more setting on camera than this n86 :))
gavrilaeugen 2 years ago
No, it's just that all the extra options have been hidden - use 'Customise toolbar' on the menu.

By that I mean that the sun had set and that it really was quite dark - yet the photo looks like daytime. Amazing.

Oh, agree about your last point but, hey, we can't have everything, it seems!

Great review and I agree the N86 is the best cellphone camera in the world today!
I understand why TIPA give the N86 the best camera in 2009 award.
I got the N86 couple of weeks ago and most say I love it !
Keep up the good work

well steve every review proves that it's one of the worst...:( at least not on the same page with the renoir and innov8

I get more and more interested in N86, really hope Nokia will release a candybar with that camera soon!

i think i would like it more if the screen was larger maybe similer to the 5800

Was your N86 a prototype, or was it the finished thing? Also, would the N86 be in your top 5? Thanks
tomcane8 2 years ago
It was retail. And yes, tempted to put it in my top 5, but it might get ousted by the 'No more than 2 Nokias' rule 8-)
stevelitchfield 2 years ago
Not sure why you have these rules. I think it's best if you maybe stop these "2 devices per manufacturer" rules and maybe increase top 5 to top 8?

So, when the Symiban^2 (the first Symbian foundation software) will be finished?
Is it true, that it will run on S60 V5 FP1 UI?
Will we get some more "fancy" efects in the UI, like in the iphone? Or is it going to be the same as in the S60V5?
TzBom 2 years ago
No idea, though I'd guess it will be similar. See Symbian's David Wood's blog, for details on timescales.
