very helpful video!! I want to buy a good sturdy tripod around 200 bucks. There are so many on the market and i'm confused which one to go for. Can you please recommend me some good ones. Ps I prefer ball head too. Thanks
@meetsecret manfrotto and gitzo are the only tripods I know enough about to recommend. There are probably others though. Monfrotto is cheaper than gitzo which is probably out of your price range.
@arubaforever it is cheapest of the carbon fiber gitzo which is still about 500 dollars. Just because it the simplest and cheapest gitzo carbon fiber tripod doesnt mean it cheap in general
Since i live in the big city of So Cal i want to take cityscapes and nightscapes with a Nikon DX camera. What lens would you recommend for this? Dont think i want a fisheye but...?
Hello. Could you, please, ad: (a) a few links to pictures taken with the F100, and (b) give your opinion/view regarding the extra dynamic range you can get with film relative to the D90 and D700 (taking into account the raw headroom). Thanks in advance. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for the reply Conor, I can see the tokina is cheaper than the Nikon, which I'm glad to see. I will try do a research on both the Tokina 11-16mm and the 12-24mm to see which one fits best for landscape photography.
Once again, thank you for the reply. You're videos are helping me alot to understand how to work with my camera.
Photography is a 'new' interested of mine - I just purchased a Nikon D60 which I'm pretty satisfied with, it forfills my 'needs':)
I just have one question, I've been doing alot of research for landscape photography, but something that confuses me is the lenses, I'm not sure what lenses are good for landscape?
Do you have any suggestion for some good lenses (for landscape), which doesn't cost $1000 x)
I can't seem to find the Gitzo GT-1530 available online. Is it discontinued? If so, is there an equivalent. I need something for my height (6'2") and for the weight of my camera/lenses (d300 w/grip). Any recommendations?
It probably is discontinued and i dont know of an equivalent. any gitzo can hold you set up, they are the strongest tripods out there. I bought the cheapest carbon fiber gitzo.
I'm a Nikon guy but I'am realy thinking about going for Sony A850 2000$ camera with sensor from A900 ! That will be sick with Zeiss optic..
I'am realy disapointed with d300s.. It's to expensive and I don't see a point of getting it. I won sport photo competition with D60 where guys were shooting pro cameras. It's not the matter of speed of shutter speed but the way how you set yourself on the field and when to put shutter.
Filters can defiantly help and I will dedicate a video to filters, I personally rarely use filters though, even on my film camera and the pics come out great. None of the pics on my flickr account were taken with filters.
the d700 isnt as much of a landscape camera as one would think. i would say the 5d mark II is the choice landscape camera. Nikon doesn't really have anything competitive in the regard of mega pixels.
very true. But it is the best nikon has right now. Hopefully we will see a nikon d700x, a d700 body with d3x sensor soon. That will be the ultimate landscape camera.
I can't agree size is not that much of a matter in that case d700 got much much much much more DR and as far as I know its 16bit raw output. But sure 5dmkII is nice camera to have.

tokina 11-16mm is a great choice and so is the tokina 12-24mm.
QQQQcon 2 years ago
@QQQQcon all tokina lenses wont work on a d60 it needs a camera with an internal focusing motor you can manual focus it BUT it can be a pain

Can the Nikon D300 take pictures in mirror lock up mode? This is important to get tack sharp images. Also, how do you get your film developed?
spidertrax 2 years ago
I have never tried that. I get my film developed at jones photo a local camera store.

Go for it! I think they have some really great lenses. And you can also grab some beautiful Minolta lenses for good deals.

yeah and since Nikons are much easier to use in the field, and much more comfortable, it should take over the 5d mk II
manbearpig91 2 years ago
yes, but i think nikon will not bring out a d700x :(. the d700x would be better than a d3...

Good video! You might want to call it your video an "Overview" not a "Review". When most people hear review, they think product review. Just an idea!
I'm hoping to get a D700 or D3 soon. Still with the D300. It is a great camera!
I'm also hoping to add the 14-24mm soon. I rented t hat lens and it is amazing!
