For one, Stalin had an effective propaganda program which had even the innocent people in the Gulag claiming Stalin didn't know what was going on. Second, after the Kirov murder in 1934 Stalin stopped going anywhere. Third, any assassin knew that his family would be wiped out. Due to effective propaganda, the people would not have favored an assassin.

The higher up one was in government or military rank the more likely he was to be shot. It was just a matter of being at the wrong stage of your career when Stalin felt another round of cutting throats was needed.

The NKVD secret police were purged 9 times, the military purged, the entire politburo wiped out, federal prosecutors and judges purged at least once. Any group that had any kind of authority or social cohesion was purged. When they purged a group they set a quota of some percentage to be shot the rest to the gulag as slave labor.

The author was emphasizing that the system of random terror was in place while Lenin ruled. Robert Conquest lists group after group that were murdered in his Great Terror book. Conquest feels that these groups were purged to send a message to society not to oppose their rule.

For one, Stalin had an effective propaganda program which had even the innocent people in the Gulag claiming Stalin didn't know what was going on. Second, after the Kirov murder in 1934 Stalin stopped going anywhere. Third, any assassin knew that his family would be wiped out. Due to effective propaganda, the people would not have favored an assassin.

He then said that Stalin didn't know about the Gulag or he would put a stop to it. Again and again you hear these stories ''If Stalin only knew, he'd do something!". Stalin knew everything, it was the people that didn't know.

So naturally believing in God is an act of faith, but not blind faith. If you look at what Christ said in the bible, his words, I think you can only come to one of two conclusions : 1) he was a madman. 2) he was exactly who he said he was. Look at his words and choose.
