Makes me want to go back and stay in these times for ever. It's almost heartbreaking to realize how old we have become, and how bad the music scene has become. I wish i could have enjoyed the fun times a little more. So glad we can still watch bands like this on You Tube. Many thanks for posting these videos. Great yet sad memories, and great music! Miss these bands!
I grew up loving 80's "glam" rock and metal, and just didn't appreciate these guys then the way I do now. Looking back, it's obvious they were so far ahead of a lot of the other bands I listened to in terms of songwriting, musicianship, and performance!
Later that night we picked Derek up to go to Jimo's and watch the show. Some guy came up to us and told our table how he was really great friends with Derek Frigo and he had gotten invited to go with him to New York but had to turn the trip down. Derek said "Man, it must be cool to know that Frigo guy". We laughed our asses off!!
Hard to believe this band is not the prominent figure for rock/pop/power ballads. I have heard almost everything out there and no one in the form of rock has the consistency in albums through the years. It just does not make sense to me why they were never as big as many other bands of that timeframe.
@jay237jay - If you do actually own it, I bet I know how you got it, or at least who you got it from. I used to play this guitar everyday in the studio, back in the 90's when Derek still owned it. Inbox me if you want to know the history on it...
texasfutbol so let me get this straight, in order to be on letterman back in the 90's you needed to play with paul and the house band or not play at all?
Donnie has to be one of the greatest pop-soul singers ... period. Well, there is no other like him. I devoured this band back in the day, fell in love with Donnie's voice and that was it...I've always felt that way about Donnie and the band always great.
the band knew the policies, which really aren't policies, of performing with paul & the band. they were humbled & happy to appear.
the problem was that the single that was out at the time was mother's eyes, yet they performed baby loves you, the 'hit' held off their 1st album for them to ride with their 2nd.
there was a slight possibility for them to return to letterman a couple of months later, when baby loves you WAS their single, but since they had already played that, it was a no go.
I remember seeing this when it aired and laughing at Vik "air guitar" playing.. They obviously didn't know the Letterman policy of the bands HAVING to use Paul and the band if they wanted on-air time....just shameful..cuz thats a GREAT song...
3 guitar players? Looks like Jonathan Cain on guitar,,,,,Derek got to play the solo at least,,and then theres Vikki Foxx playing a unplugged guitar!!!! Nice work guys,,,,ever see there home video from the 1st cd? There live MTV shots are backing tracks.
