A whipper would be a long lead fall in which the force of being stopped by your rope inflicts the pain. A fall like this where your gear placements are insufficient to catch you on lead would be called a zipper - the escalating force as you fall farther and farther pulls each piece out from the top down and the ground probably causes more pain than the rope.
So I agree with rowanlubke, better gear and better placements.
and also better cliffs! like the ones in good old Kentucky, USA!
For the benefit of those people who don't like/ get this clip. It was produced in Scotland where we have what is know as " a sense of irony". If you come from a country that calls a "climbing wall" a "climbing gym" it likely you wont get this point and take it at face value.
Please enjoy it for what it is -a big whipper that didnt cause lasting injury and an example of British "humour" (sic).
IRONY "hiding what is actually reality in order to obtain a desired oratorical or artistic effect"
Someone needs to learn to place gear. this is a rubbish add to scare people indoors. the only way get good is to climb outside it teaches about footwork not big plastic get out clauses for your feet if the route is to hard
Ok so the options are be a badass and take the whip like a fucking g, or go climb in a crowded gym. This advertisement makes me want to shoot gym rats with a fucking pistol.
@AlexDaDojoDude i agree also who would campus like that outside, indoor be it good training through the winter. It makes bad habits. Also for people who see this day in day out someone who as only ever climbed indoors lasts about five mins outside. you dont get lovely big plastic foot holds outside
climbing in the gym when you can climb outside... that is shear madness. Part of the fun of climbing outside is the unpredicatability, and sometimes the danger. Not the best ad if you ask me.
@alienrockclimbing. Next time maybe use a rainy day in your advertisement to lure people indoors. Not a scare campaign which deters them from climbing outdoors, there is such a thing as top roping for beginners and lead climbing always has risks. I also love your response to pirzifoz's comment gives the impression you feel your ad is somewhat justifiable. lol
@alienrockclimbing this shows how douchey you guys are for using the climber fail. it makes ME not want to climb at ur gym and i actually find it kind of disrespectful "ALIEN ROCK CLIMBING FAIL"
@JulianZoller In case choss falls out of an unestablished trad route and smashes your effing skull in... thats one reason. Also, on multi- pitch climbs, belayers don't exactly have much room to move about when anchored in one spot. Falling rock from above (which does happen, and often) tends to hurt when going terminal velocity. But you're not a pussy, so I guess you dont need a concious belayer.
actually if you folllow basic safety instrustions then you should have no problem climbing outdoors. my nine year old sister flashes 5.11ds outside. but you should learn how to climb safely at an indoor gym by a qualifyed instructer.
The only time I have been injured climbing was indoors. And I climb primarily outdoors.

Climbing inside can also be hazardous to your wallet AND your health (with ingnorant belayers). Try staying at bed. CAUSE WE CARE

There are so many things wrong with this. This add just effectively made me decide never to provide alien rock climbing with any business.

That gym looks like an overcrowded hellhole, full of birthday parties and poseurs.
Give me blue sky and wide open spaces over that any day - maybe better gear though.

Real climbing is on real rock, outdoors. Climbing gyms are awesome for training but they cant compare to the real thing.

An overcrowded gym compared outdside...I think everyone knows what the best option is. Injuries and danger are both natural parts of climbing.

Thumbs down for promoting indoor over outdoor. If you've climbed outside, thumbs up because you know what I'm talking about.
