I just finished watching It Happened to Jane starring Doris Day and Jack Lemmon...such a great film :)! I love how Doris always portrays intellectual, hard working and independent women (for her time, anyway). She is so great at that. Also, I just love all the films she did with Rock Hudson and The Thrill of it All with James Garner is absolutely hilarious! She truly is a Hollywood gem of a leading lady :).
It's so sad she didn't find happiness, other than with her animals, she lost her son, she was treated badly by her husbands, she really doesn't deserve it.
A wonderful brilliant woman. I love her character 'Calamity' in the movie 'Calamity Jane' singing the song The Black Hills of Dakota along with Howard Keel.
I have loved Doris Day since when I was a child and loved all her films and music (I am now 66). I understand that Doris has recorded a new album this year (2011) - I just hope that this is really true and that we can enjoy her music once again.
Isn't today her birthday? Thank you Doris, for all the joy and sunshine you gave in the movies I watched. Thank you also for all the help and love you have given to animals. You are a great, great lady.
One of the greatest Star and best Actress of all time. She is wonderful!!! She can do anything and always with real talent and beauty. I miss her and it is a pity that she is not doing any more roles. A great singer too. I do love her. God Bless Her!
One of my best friends is the only grandchild of Doris Day and son of Terry Melcher. His father, Terry, her son and only child, passed away a few years ago and when he did, his current wife, who is not the mother of my friend, had him so jacked up on pain meds and cancer pills she convinced him into giving her his entire estate. My buddy told me that he wasn't even allowed to see his dying father even while on his deathbed because of her lies. Even Doris denies her only grandson due to her lies.
Doris Day's Aunt, Nellie Day Harris was my son's 5th grade teacher in Saticoy, California. She was a wonderful teacher and a wonderful lady. Love Doris Day.
I also wish she'd make some public appearances. I'm only 28 years old. Only reason I know about Doris Day is because of my mother. A lot of new generations have no idea who she is and they are missing out. It's really sad...really sad that there aren't more people like her in the world today. Love You Doris!! <3 <3
she is a darling and i dont think there is an actress today who posesses an ounce of her star quality - but yet she was still down to earth and seemed to be the perfect individual although im sure she had her faults, but she is just perfect to me lol x
Doris is an amazing woman, she could show a few "stars" of today a thing or two about class, and being a respectable lady. She outshines most starletts today, cheers to you Doris!! Enjoy the peace and quiet you so deserve,
Doris is an amazing woman, she could show a few "stars" of today a thing or two about class, and being a respectable lady. She outshines most starletts today, cheers to you Doris!!
I can't stand people who get bothered by a neighbor having too many animals. Seriously, what is their problem? I hate when they try to make other people's lives miserable. Jeez!!!!
I have recieved another letter from Doris. I have four now. She is such a kind person. Anyone would have difficulty to come even close to her today and she has time for every day people like me. Ive met people in television that have half her talent but are not as humble as her. She is one very special lady. A gift from God. She is always in my heart
I always love when Doris says if she became a star anyone could. There was no one like her even by the time she was a teenager. She was just overflowing with talent, energy and good will. I think she really did want that nice sweet home and hubby and family back home in Ohio but there's no doubt she also wanted to entertain. She was doing it, after all, at an unusually young age. The movies I think were inevitable and they found her. She was looking for them.
No one could ever have carried out the role of Doris in Calamity Jane as she did - been to three stage versions now from London to Dublin and nothing and no actress can pull off the humour or the effort she put in. Hey when she got pulled up on that rope she did that - every movement every action she did it with her heart - some may say others are more talented - yeh whatever - only voice I've ever wished I had and only person in hollywood I would have ever wished to meet.
She was a phenomenal singer and actress. She could do comedy, she could do drama, she could sing musicals. A real talent. She seemed like a nice person, too, which is the most important thing of all. I say all this in spite of the fact that she and I have canceled each other's vote over the past 30 years.
SUCH AN AMAZING TALENT AND WONDERFUL, CLASSEY, SMART, WARM, WITTY AND MEMORIBLE HUMAN BEING!!!! i LOVE HER MOVIES AND HER MUSICAL TALENT. SUCH A CLASS ACT. I WILL REMEMBER HER ALWAYS.
Through my life i have heard lots of great singers, but Miss Doris Day will always have a special place in my heart, also i can never imagine Miss Doris Day as being old, either in her music or in her attitude to life, In my humble opinion.
Doris was born in 1924 as documented in her only official biography in 1975 and now so many are trying to say she was born in 1922 especially since the unofficial book "The Untold Story" was released in 08. Why should we believe the author of this book and change her birth year . I think not .
Doris is a wonderful woman , taking care of all kinds of animals. , as well as being a lovely actress and , and her singing voice was awesome. She has just celebrated her 86th Birthday, and i hope she has many more. Love you Doris.
I understand that Doris was considered for the part of Mrs. Robinson in "The Graduate". While Anne Bancroft nailed the part, and was superb, Doris would have added a level of kink that would have made a great movie that much better. My God, being seduced by Doris Day.......
I have admired and adored Ms Doris Day since the mid 60's. We even share the same birthday date....April 3rd!! I have loved her music and many of her films for years. The lady is definitely one in a million.....and deserves all the recognition she receives. I feel that she is really one of the last of the great time movie stars. I am so happy that she is still among us, a beautiful humanitarian and a brilliant legacy of the American cinema.
There are more recent pictures, but nothing in the last couple of years. She's 87 you know and enjoys her privacy. She does a radio interview every year on her birthday, April 3rd.
@debbiausten1 She was born 1924 so actually she just turned 86. Betty White is 88 and having a blast with her career still going strong. Doris turned away from Hollywood by choice and as you mentioned, enjoys her privacy. She is retired from the entertainment world but Doris is working hard everyday for her animal causes. To be honest, she has not retired, she just doing something else - her heart is with the animals.
Doris Day was a great actress who has never gotten her due from the motion picture Academy which has put a shadow on the whole industry in my opinion.
I have always loved Doris Day. I watched her movie Pillow Talk last night and it always makes me laugh and leaves me with a smile. Thank you Doris for all the sunshine and joy you have added to my life and the lives of millions. Thank you Doris. You are greatly loved. One of your fans! Jesse
@AussieRosie I didnt know Terry died. I bet it devestated Doris losing her only child. I write to her a few years ago and I donated to her animal foundation and she sent me a lovely 8x10 color photo autographed it too. I treasure it. I never write fan letters but She was a special actress and so genuinely down to earth with a golden voice.
The word class in the dictionary has the picture of Doris Day right beside it. I always liked her and every movie she made I made sure I saw it. I read her book and still have the book today and have read it several times.
I wrote to her and asked for a autographed photo and after four months she sent me one with my name on it and a little note about taking so long i was just so thrilled she had made it to me and signed love doris day and said she does them all herself she has piles in her garage and works on them whenever.
Let's hope that nobody believes that if Doris Day can succeed in Hollywood, anybody can. Luck plays a big part in Hollywood success. In addition, when the Lord was handing out talent, Doris went back for seconds, or thirds. The highlight of this video is the commentary from Doris's son, near the start of the video. The radio interview with Doris is a bit disappointing, due to the annoying host.

MGM did consider Doris for the part of MJolly Brown. The rumor is that she was passed over because "Billy Rose's Jumbo" had not been a box-office success.
From "Pillow Talk" (1959) through "Send Me No Flowers" (1964), "Jumbo" was the only financial soft spot. Too bad...her performance was brilliant, as was her singing.
This is absolutely fabulous ! Thank you for setting staight some of the misconceptions about Doris. I have all those interviews but haven't watched them for a long time...now I have to get them out to watch again !!
Thanks - favorited this one to watch again and again .... many stars for you !
Oh Debbi this video really is wonderful! I love how there's a mixture of documentary clips that's great! My favorite part is the beginning when Terry is talking and when she is riding her bicycle through the neighborhood. Kaye Ballard is funny too.
Kaye Ballard once gave Doris the finest com-pliment I can ever imagine an actor receiving: "I can't tell whether she is reading the script or just talking to me..."
Debbi this is fabulous. I am sending it to everyone I know. How does anybody comes to a conclusion that Doris Day is anybody other than who she says and shows she is? Thank you so much for the time you took to put this together. This is a true tribute to an absolutely lovely lady. 10 Stars!

Does anyone know if Doris was considered for Unskinkable Molly Brown ? She would have been perfect in it .
miltsar 3 years ago
Fans have suggested it, but I don't think she was ever considered for the part.

MGM did consider Doris for the part of MJolly Brown. The rumor is that she was passed over because "Billy Rose's Jumbo" had not been a box-office success.

I never heard that. But I thought Jumbo was a success. Thank you for the correction.

From "Pillow Talk" (1959) through "Send Me No Flowers" (1964), "Jumbo" was the only financial soft spot. Too bad...her performance was brilliant, as was her singing.

Wow! Except for the first part from her 1991 documentary Sentimental Journey, I've never seen these clips before. Great!

Oh Debbi this video really is wonderful! I love how there's a mixture of documentary clips that's great! My favorite part is the beginning when Terry is talking and when she is riding her bicycle through the neighborhood. Kaye Ballard is funny too.
Such a happy, fun video!-Dominique

Thanks I love that part too! Actually I think I like the whole video.

Kaye Ballard once gave Doris the finest com-pliment I can ever imagine an actor receiving: "I can't tell whether she is reading the script or just talking to me..."

I remember her saying that.

This is the BEST tribute thus far made about Miss Day. Well done, well thought out, and very much appreciated by this Doris Day fan. Thank you!

I like that part too Debbi! I'm sure anyone who had done a film or sang a song with DoDo would have said the same thing.

Great Debbi! I love it..I love the last shot when she takes the hat from her head.. No one can compare to her.. She's just wonderful!

I love the part at the end where Terry says "She is the best mother I could have ever had."
and James Garner says "...I could have done 50 films with her."

Debbi this is fabulous. I am sending it to everyone I know. How does anybody comes to a conclusion that Doris Day is anybody other than who she says and shows she is? Thank you so much for the time you took to put this together. This is a true tribute to an absolutely lovely lady. 10 Stars!
