This was the Hottest Wrestling Intro EVER !!!!! Takes me back to the Summer of 1986 in Brooklyn when UWF used to come on @ 7pm Sat nites on U-68 after they show music videos.
They should've made it, but they didn't have a cable outlet after Ted Turner decided he liked Jim Crockett better, Then the oil glut happened, wrecking the economy in Oklahoma, Louisiana, Texas etc poor old Watts had no choice but to sell.
I miss this image of pro wrestling from the 1980s. Bring it back independents!! I'm sick of the WWE and its cartoonish, soap opera image it calls sports entertainment. By the way, the theme sounds like the opening of Seinfeld. Other than that, this wrestling action deserves a comeback to today's pro wrestling. It was much more intense, and I enjoyed it that way!!
Mid-south/UWF in the 80's was great wrestling. some of the best wrestling ever. Sting was briefly a heel in this federation when he started his career teaming up with Eddie Gilbert, Rick Stiener and Missy Hyatt.
Sting known as Flash teamed with Rock, to form the Bladerunners before Rock leaving and Flash converting to Sting, working under Gilbert, etc. Those were the days!!
@drc2311 I thought he was always sting? cause i remember ther debut as rock and sting mang. by eddie gilbert,iv never heard of him refered to as flash.
@arkie74 He was called "Flash" right after they became the BladeRunners in Memphis. Before that they were Jim and Steve of the Freedom Force. I don't think they ever referred to him as "Flash" in Mid-South/UWF. He was always "Sting" in Mid-South. In fact, the first time or two that I saw them, I don't even think Mid-South/UWF acknowledged their names. They were just "The BladeRunners". But then, they were identified as "Rock" and "Sting".
To this day, the best wrestling federation of all time. In 1986, Mid-South/UWF moved to Saturday nights on channel 57 here in Philly after a short stint on low-powered channel 61. Anyway, I was so blown away by the fast-paced action, the electricity of Jim Ross, and the hardcore angles as compared to the cartoonish WWF. Jim Ross would frequently scream "we're inside 60 seconds of air time" as the best match or angle of the show would be cut off with no time left. Man, I miss those days.
@philaman1972 i agree, i used to watch this on sat nites on 57 and was blown away by the wrestling. and the talent these guys had. the emphasis on wrestling
@philaman1972 Philly here, too, and I remember those days fondly and miss them terribly. The main reason why I was drawn to the UWF was because of the absence of the aforesaid cartoon crap of the WWF. The Fabulous Freebirds, The Fantastics, The Missing Link, Dark Journey, Missy Hyatt, and Jim Ross (when he could actually call a match) - I loved them all. They made wrestling enjoyable to watch.
I remember this intro because in 1994 here in Japan, UWF's program was aired by the title of "Global Sports Network" on cable if my memory serves me correctly.
have anyone posted the theme song we are the champions theme song for mid south wrestling it use come on saturday at 1200 noon when i was a kid man i loved that stuff
I grew up watching this stuff and I wonder why the footage is ALWAYS removed from YouTube....If it's buried, no one will ever see it---What am I missing??
This channel is UniversalWrestling. This channel is run by Bill Watts's son Micah Watts, who runs a website and company that distributes tapes and DVDs from the Mid-South UWF library. I believe Micah's mother owns the library. They have their contact info on the info pannel and on their channel home page. You can purchase most of the TV shows from late 81 until early 87, as well as a few compilations and numerous house shows. I love this stuff too and have bought a number of their DVDs.
Thank so much for sharing the UWF. At the time I could read about the UWF in the apter mags. So to finally see it, yeah it's 20 yrs later but still takes me back
Central PA here...loved Sat nights and UWF...a great 2-3 yr run, some of the best wrestling ever!!!!!

A real shame this is pretty much the one territory WWE doesn't own the video rights to, would love to see a DVD of them put together.

@drc2311 Sting was already Sting before Rock left. He was only called "Falsh" for a few weeks in Memphis. In Mid-South, he was "Sting".
