  • Fantastic movement. Mad props.

  • That you so very much for let us take part of this whole recording! I am very pleased.

  • This recording is of great historical interest, but the third movement is the weakest point of Kulenkampff. He plays much faster than Schumanns metronome, who said quarter 63. Tto do this he had to arrange the part to make things easier, as Gidon Kremer said. In the original tempo it is a slow polonaise. There are letters between Joachim and Schumann refering to this character which is lost with Kulenkampffs interpretation.

  • You may be right but in 1937, i think they must speed because of 78 tours inconvenients

  • I guess in this case they would have shortened the music for the record instead of asking Hindemith to rewrite the solo-part.

The problem is that the slow tempo in the last movement creates an unusual atmosphere, but it is not possible to play the original solo-part faster. It is still rare that someone plays the original slow tempi. Gidon Kremer did it in his second recording with Harnoncourt. Very convincing and beautiful. Only the second movement is here on youtube.

  • Thank you !! I was waiting for this!!

  • If you make it thru the tedium of the 2nd movement without falling asleep this one is much more lively and full of interest (though the 1st movement is indeed the most interesting and compelling) Thanks again for sharing!
