Actually, the Japanese pronunciation of Ryu is "You". The R is silent. It means dragon. English media pronounces it as "Ree-ooh" as to avoid confusion since "you" is an English word. English tends to drag out the syllables in the Japanese names for some weird reason. I remember when a lot of people would say "Sah-core-ruh) for Sakura instead of saying it "Sah-kruh" how it should be.
