she has a great voice, but even though this version is appealing to the crowd, i don't feel that this song should be changed up in such a way. Otherwise, she is amazing and her voice sounds mature plus she looks like she is a great actor.
Did anyone watch the scene before the song. It's obviously not the show which mean character is out the window. This was obviously for some sort of talent night or cabaret. Stop shooting her down and enjoy the performance for what it is.
I think this girl has a good voice, and it takes a lot of courage to sing anything for an audience.
While I was intrigued by this interpretation of a very famous song (how can anyone compete with Judy Garland?), however, I felt the variations in styles were distracting from her performance--it's too jarring, and even worse, feels like a mockery of the song itself at times.
This is clearly not the girl's fault--it's the director's. Hopefully, next time she sings, she'll have a better director.
Hey guys, just listen to the crowd though! The director did know what he was doing and it was priceless to watch Morgan go acting throughout this whole "talent showcase" without singing and then when it was her turn, she starts out sweet, as most would suspect, then she tore it up.
Lastly, she totally respects the song and listens to the original almost every night.
Thanks for listening, commenting and stay tuned for more vocals and dance from Morgan!
The director ought to be shot for letting an innocent girl unknowingly butcher a song like that. Sure she is talented, but it does not fit the style of the show, the context, or the character AT ALL. If she wants to sing like that she's better off in a cabaret. There's a time and place, people!
Morgan is a great singer, but her vocal coach needs to pick a style not use everything in the same song. Preferably the cute young little girl, not the "old lady" gospell singer. Both sound great for seperate songs but switching back and forth makes cute little Morgan look as if she is possesd. What was the director of this play thinking?
I hate how everyone is like 'I don't like the interpretation' It's supposed to be like a parody- the unexpected soul verison, then jumping back to the over exxagerated sweet dispostion. I think its hilarious
@mkl223 Although this little girl has a nice voice she is not that good...she has pitch problems (if you need examples I'll be glad to add references). NO ONE WHITE NEEDS TO DO THE WIZ...Isn't it enough that white people have all the major parts in t.v., movies, musicals, and operas. The Wiz is the Black Communities answer to the Wizard of Oz!
OMG! - where did that voice come from? I don't know which voice I like better. The little girl Morgan or the grown-up Morgan. Keep it up! We'll see you on Broadway!
That is really impressive with the dual threat acting and singing and the composure... even the other people in the show could not hold it together. WELL DONE CUZ!
MORGAN! It's Brandon, and Tyler is around here somewhere. Long time no see!
I remember you singing that song all the time when I was out to visit two summers ago. Good to see that you have stuck with it and to see your improvement as well. Keep up the good work and maybe I can come see one of these performances in person!

What a powerful voice, and it's clear she's got soul. I look forward to hearing her express it genuinely, out of a school play context. Go Morgan!

I would say this song took the idea of story telling away from the show and made it about how a girl (good voice or not) can mimic a torch song.
An amusing video about how star statis has become more important than teamwork among actors as well as the importance of story telling.
