@beaudashing She's explaining the birth of modernity and that starts precisely in England, going outwards through Europe and the west. She has to show the European tradition leading up to that. I'm a Buddhist living in Japan, but Japan's modernity was inherited from Europe's. Of course, these are also important books, but they're important in very different parts of history. No introductory lecture course of 20 hours would cover world history or even Zen or the Bhagavad Gita.
