Testament is my last hope for metal redemption this year. They were my gateway to the metal scene. I began listening to them through their album "The Gathering" (I'm only 21) and have loved them ever since. The "Formation of Damnation" was the epitome of all that is brutal thrash, I know for sure it kicked the crap out of every other metal release that year, and now I await for the release of their newest album, with anticipation growing, hoping that this will be another metal album of the year.

Testament

Megadeth

Anthrax

I've never been big on Slayer, so I left them off. This is just my preference though.

@kmarcar I don't know about being on par with Slayer, but as far as Megadeth, or Metallica, I'd definitely agree. Slayer's the only one of the Big Four (excluding Anthrax, I've never really listened to them) that has stuck to their roots....Death Magnetic sounded like it was just radio rock, and Megadeth's Endgame was, imo, a letdown.

@ICantOpenMyBeer Endgame was fine. And imo, Death Magnetic could've been a 2nd Master of Puppets if the sound wasn't so fucked up, either way I wouldn't call it radio rock as the only thing radio-friendly on that album was the first couple of minutes The Day That Never Comes.

The Big 4 is just a big name for four big thrash bands touring together. It's by no means 'the best 4'. That said, every band out of those 4 is awesome, and so is Testament.
