  • The cap has been in the US for years, started by the cable companies. Next month, the dsl companies will join them.

  • GOING THE CLUB DUDE !! I PAY 70 BUCKS A MONTH FOR HIGH SPEED INTERNET SERVICE

  • WE HAVE THE SAME T-SHIRT, THAT IS ALL

  • australia has the same dam stupid cap system

  • Hey Van... Give us a email addy to send a buck to ya, you know to keep the internet personality going through this dark time. :)

  • This is news to me. I really hope that it gets repealed: I'd hate for any potential Vangeli-in-the-makings to be lost due to prohibitive bandwidth costs.

  • I wouldn't mind real Use Based Billing - if it really cost what it cost them with no markup. I would be paying at the most 5 dollars. Also, if I could get the cable channels I want, I'd go back to cable. Why would I pay 90+ dollars a month when I only watch 5 shows a week? I'd rather get them online.

Also, the government said they are going to repeal the law. If they close down our internet, we should rise up.

  • Vange1us, have you ever watched one of these Vlogs with a phat beat in the background?

It is exponentially improved, I think.

  • 9:35-Oh my god you're the Money Donpant!? D:

But really, I'm with ya on this but I'm also scared of the fact that if this happens in Canada it could happen in the US as well or anywhere in the world! Look what's happening in Egypt with the riots! D:

  • It actually takes less than one cent to move gigabyte of data.

  • It actually takes less than a cent to move.

  • You just need to get some bigger tubes and youll be fine ;)

  • I feel for you guys up there. I live like 20 minutes from the Canadian border. I don't quite like the amount and kind of Canadians that plague my area, but the nation wide bandwidth cap up there sucks. There's talks of it happening here in the US too. We're in this together now, because of the internet. It makes me sad to see something so free get cut down.

  • Core medals! *arm shifts into a strange, red bird like arm* Give me those medals!

  • That's balls man, but great vid. Very well thought out. Comcast is pulling this shit in the US, luckily Cox Communications isn't pulling this shit...yet. I dig your work Vangelus, hope to run into you at BotCon.

  • I agree with you on this CAP!!! I've written my Gov't MPP to also view my concerns... here's something to know as well as the iPOD tax coming but not limited to iPODS..any media based device

  • I follow your podcast the most, even to the point of watching a 11 minute 56 second rant about Canadian internet and your amazing power of being such a knowledgeable and powerful (public?) speaker has cause me to sign the petition. Even though I live all the way down here in the southern US, your words of potential loss of my favorite podcast host has tugged my heartstrings as much as your reviews tug at my wallet. I tip my hat to you, good sir, you are a gentleman and a scholar.

  • We ask those who are locked into Bell contracts to stop using Bell services once their contracts expire. Boycott Demands

An end to Usage Based Billing (UBB)

Adherer to the principles of Network Neutrality

Bell may if they desire debate it's position using real math and science with our guys Live on the CBC. netneutralitycanada.ca

  • Net Neutrality Is The #1 Fundamental Freedom Issue Of Our Time.

BOYCOTT BELL CANADA Bell Canada is making life miserable for Canadians and the only way to teach it respect is to put a dent in the one thing it cares about..the bottom line.

We are asking Canadian people and businesses to immediately begin boycotting all Bell Canada goods and services.

  • Signed, you canadian you!!!

    Good luck

  • Yeah it sucks. If CA is going this no reason not to think US wouldn't follow. I know Comcast has been making noises about cap on Internet for years. If they are metering our usage they better prepare to refund those that aren't used.

  • YOU LOOK LIKE HIRO NAKAMURA BUT WITH FACIAL HAIR

  • I completely agree with you vangelus, I believe that all of the intranets deserve to be equal if not free of this insanity that is limitations. I am from the states, actually washington so its not far from there, but I dont want to see any of my fellow people suffer like this due to lack of funds or something else which I can't quite clarify at the moment. but I really hope your petition helps your country realize they arent happy with what is happening.

  • Why not just force the limitation on Justin Beiber? Then he can't spread songs that make our ears bleed. lol

  • I wanted to let you know I got your back on this whole pay-per-use internet BS. I can not fathom a reason for such a thing to happen other then another way for someone to nickel and dime us. I wholly support open internet and I am spreading the word amongst my tiny group of friends and hopes to get some change.

  • Fuck netflix. How many Blockbuster Videos and other video stores did they close down? How many jobs was that? The internet has ruined the world. (Think about it)

  • @Rolltron Blockbuster had a ridiculous monopoly for DECADES, netflix brought something better, and it's not as if they don't employ people too. I'm all for jobs, but Blockbuster got real complacent.

  • @Rolltron I can only speak for my local Blockbuster, but its downfall began and ended long before Netflix was ever available in my country. XD

And yet it's still there! Next to the Starbucks by Safeway! I don't even know if anybody is inside! A superior and non-chain rental place continues to thrive right across the street.

  • @Rolltron Movie Gallery closed down in Canada and the US because their business was being traded upon by Netflix. Now my Movie Gallery is gone, and I only have a local store called "Video Express" to rely on... and it sucks. They get horrible movie games and casual games I've never heard of, and skip over things like Metroid: Other M and Vanquish.

  • @Rolltron Are you serious? 2 words fuck off. You are the typical bitch that gladly takes it in the ass by the government. I pity you. Don't even respond.

  • @XxRoycexX How could I respond to that? You're a fucking idiot.

  • @Rolltron So many mom and pop video stores in my area came back into business when Blockbuster left. For every one Blockbuster that went out of business 2 or 3 mom and pop stores came back. If Netflix killed Blockbuster then it made more jobs. Besides, who do think works at Netflix? You've got the IT guys, people who package and ship movies, people to sign deals for movies, markters, sales reps, etc. The internet changed the world. Some old jobs went away, new ones cropped up. Deal with it.

  • @Rolltron

Yes, kill it with fire, way to go.

Seriously now, Blockbuster's and overall video renting downfall was mainly their fault due to cable TV (since in most countries non-cable sucks so everyone has cable anyway) plus their prices were always in the expensive side, here in Brazil it's not uncommon that to rent a video you pay something between 1/4 to 1/2 of purchasing the DVD.

It's called progress, all the time people lose their jobs in face of new tech, "deal with it".

  • We should neuter, draw & quarter the CRTC___it's stiffling our creativity and imposes crappy media out of linguistic protectionism (I'm from Quebec and I'm pretty fed up of set bad francophone media quotas) and lame outdated standards.

  • @AkatsukiType100 Van lives in Ontario

  • That sucks man! This really does affect a lot of people, me included, I don't like the idea of having to pay for net like you pay for phone activity, it is pretty abominable for them to do something like this. Having a bandwith cap is just....well you said it best, it is a sad thing to watch.

  • Right on mate, I had no idea about this but this is indeed a serious matter and I take it to heart that you fore warned us. Going to look into this, it sounds like it's going to be potentially quite harmful to the creative scene or even just the luxury of taking pleasure in trying out new media sources on the net.

  • holy crap that is awful!!

  • you think you got it bad Vangy you should come to shithole ...I mean Australia

  • That sucks, I signed that petition too and Im not even Canadian

  • This is fraggin ridiculous, but you got my signature and i am from the Netherlands.

Also send this video link to all my subscribers here on YT who i know are from Canada and posted it on FB.

  • this is total bullshit! its like if you bought a cheesecake and they said you could only have 3 slices, and any additional slices would cost 5 bucks!

  • I'm British Mwuhahahahaha!

  • Oh and we Australians have been living for this for years now. And the National Broadband Network that is too bring us up to speed with the rest of the world is still a bit away. I understand how painful it is not being able to do what you must due to cap limitations.

  • Vangelus deserves his own big section on TGWG D:

  • From what I am hearing from you is that they are lobbying to take control of the internet to make it Corporate. What the hell! I'm in the Philippines and internet is bad as it is, but if this push through, other profit minded suit monkeys will start to think "Hey that's not a bad idea, let's do the same thing here."

As if we were back in the old 56K access era and AOL where they charge fucking Premium to just to open you POP3 email. Damn, I'm gonna sign up against this. This is scary.

  • Could this affect deviantart uploads?

  • Lots of good points and food for thought! Thanks for the link to the petition.

  • I am watching this from Sweden on my 4G connection, which is blisteringly fast by the way. This hurts my view of Canada being the only progressive nation on the american continents. A bit sad really.

  • I agree entirely, you pay for internet anyway, you shouldn't have to pay even more for it. I'm an American and I signed the petitionm simply because I completely agree with you V.

On a more positive note, are you ever going to review any Kamen Rider Driver toys?

  • That is B.S. ... we have a "package Deal" ... cable TV, home phone and high-speed internet...all for $220 / month, US. Even this is B.S.

  • can Europeans sign the petition? I'm Polish, but I completely sympathise with you point of view.

  • My that is quite a few medals, but more importantly you have my support on this topic. Consider the petition signed.

  • I did'nt understand much...but I say: Canadians can haz cheap internetz!!

  • yeah it's really fucked up,i signed the petition i'm sick of it I already switched two dsl providers, in less then a year first roger, then Primus and now i hunting again oh and you forgot to mention not only is there a dollar for each gig, but at a certain point around 60gb it escalates to $2.50 a gb to a maximum of 50-60 dollars on top of what your already paying,

  • I'm on Bell which as far as I know dose not use UBB but i'm signing anyway!

  • @guncannon109 UBB hasn't been fully implemented yet. Just a FYI. Bell is the biggest of the bunch pushing for UBB. You just may want to reconsider...

  • this is something that they have spoken about to implement here in US that's complete bullshit no one should own the internet this terrible people need to not just sign petition people we need to boycott internet providers or something if people in the 60's did it here in the US we can do it now

  • That has been the system implemented since the beggining of broadband in Portugal, although here it only affects downloads(the ISP's that apply upload limits dont have a very long life). But with the implementation of IPTV ISP's had to change their policy and remove the cap. So that seems a huge step backwards for Canada and if your ISP's offer IPTV they can't afford to implement UBB on the account of every one cancelling their subscription because seeing tv shows just got really expensive

  • OOO Driver Review NOW !!

Actually, you've got several Rider Belts, do videos for them.

  • I'd thought I'd throw this in, here in the UK we've slowly had more and more capped internet packages, some are utterly silly with the amounts you can get but some packages are physically more than you can use.

But, Mr.V, can you not switch over to a better mobile package at all? If you can get mobile reception you can more than likely get a mobile package with better or more competitive rates of internet.

  • I recently moved to the UK and here the only internet I can get has a monthly download cap of 2GB I'm dying with this since it makes my work so much harder.............

  • Data caps have always been common where i live (New Zealand) Im lucky i have 25gb a month. most people survive on just 1 or 2gb. Most on the copper lines are owned by only one company too (Telecom NZ) For years they didn't upgrade and just raked in the money. then the internet happened and they started to get hammered by the state for having a monopoly. They have started to unbundle the network but prices have yet to improve.

  • Here in the U.S. you generally only have the choice between Cable and DSL as well(One company of each). Franchise agreements tend to keep out competition in most towns. Congress had also been trying for years now (especially recently) to do exactly what is being proposed in Canada. Hopefully this idea fails in both arenas. This and the fact that Congress seems to also believe that they should be allowed to police the internet for "neutrality purposes" which would effect the entire world.

  • Thanks Vangelus, I would have never of found out about this sooner if it weren't for you.

  • I don`t live in canada but you have my full support. Hope things turn out better.

  • You are my favorite Canadian Vangelus. You have my full support.

  • Vangelus you should sing to Kamen Rider Songs on Vocaroo.

  • @Neocrater ...I should really remember to WATCH videos before I comment...

  • God, america is lobbying just the same, and hearing the potential ramifications just boils my blood, the petition has been signed by me, and i stand by it heartily. even though im american

  • theyre trying to do this in the states as well, big brother internet has to make more money billions a year just doesnt cut it anymore

  • im a little more disturbed by the fact bell and rogers seem to have a monopoly on high speed lines here. even if we do have another isp they STILL use rogers or bells lines and as such you are under their services dl cap and throttling.

sure you can use another third party provider, but you're still under ever service and line usages of the big two around here.

  • @ReGo001 In my town, you have two primary choices that I'm aware of. Cable connection from Shaw, or an ADSL connection from Telus. The lack of true competition is all over the country, far as I know.

  • @Vange1us

funny enough 10 mins after replying to this video i checked my email and was welcomed by the lovely message that out dl caps went from 200 to 25gigs a month.

seriously....we have a family of 5 here. 25 gigs is not going to last us 2 weeks. our only alternative here is now the big boys. either bell or rogers at twice the cost.

  • @Vange1us In Winnipeg it's Shaw & MTS. We *may* have other companies (Bell, Telus) but, as far as I'm aware, Shaw & MTS have always been our TV & phone companies respectively. Now they compete for being TV, phone & internet companies. I'd have to actually research if there are other companies or not.

Note: MTS is purely local since it's Manitoba Telecom Services. You won't find it anywhere outside of the Manitoba province. (Though other provinces may have their own variant thereof. BCTS...?)

  • @Vange1us My parents once used the Hughes satellite ISP and saw what you are talking about. they paid $500 for the hardware, then close to $70/month and then got shoddy bandwidth. they didn't read that the access had a cap, then after that, the bandwidth evaporated until it "refreshed" which took hours. 4-5 Youtube videos could exceed the gap. and then, even reading email was nigh impossible. So i watch what happens with Canadian ISPs and pray that you guys can fight UBB

  • Petition SIGNED!!!!!!

this is really pissing me off also!!!!!

    as a computer/tech/toku/anime geek

    I NEED INTERNET!!!!!

and i can see that other people need internet JUST as bad as me! because i stream more videos daily then a whole elementary school!

that is bogus!!!! THIS NEEDS TO COME TO A END D:<

  • I saw the clip you put up about this and yeah if American's can sign the list too, I'll be happy to sign.

Screw Them, you already pay for service!

This is being lobbied for in the US too. It's only a matter of time before enough politicians get bought off and it comes to pass at which point, I'm going back to smoke signals.

Also, about the Trakker clip, I saw it, nice. Just wanna one up the crossover idea though & mention I use mine to pilot a Captain Power XT-7. It's a good fit.

  • This is just wrong. I signed and spread the message to my Facebook.

  • Damn! This is got to suck really bad. Don't worry Vangelus I signed this petition I don't care if I'm from America I think this is unfair justice.

  • Like I said last night, this is complete bullshit. I will be signing this petition because this will effect way too many people in a negative way. The first thing that came to my mind about this was how many small businesses will be effected by this. A large draw to a lot of places is a free wifi connection. If UBB comes to pass free wifi hotspots will more then likely vanish. If the free wifi hotspots vanish people with laptops and smart phones get screwed... its a horrible trickle effect.

  • I'm a US resident, but things like these piss me off. I have tons of close friends in Canada and I'd hate for this to happen to them.

All this is is companies trying to gain control of things. Petition Signed!!!

  • Honestly, I have mixed feelings on the bigger picture. I understand your pain but I do see a need to put a larger burden of the cost of infrastructure on those who use it most. Though I wish it was as easy as making the info stream free for all mankind, there are real lines to maintain and bandwith to parcel out. Hmm, the thought of no wtf@tfw is the ultimate nulifier for me, I will put the bigger argument aside and join the petition if I can (being a yankee)!

  • Well spoken sir. I'm a Canadian Independent filmmaker myself and the last thing people like me need is another lock on the door. Petition signed

  • Various UK ISPs do this, BT generally has a 100GB monthly limited, break it a few times then they start charging for every extra Gig used.

  • awesome.

  • Lol, funny you say that. Here in Quebec it's been UBB for at least 5 years now! At the beginning there was a sweet "unlimited" plan, the big plan. Now it's all about speed. If you take the faster connection, you also most likely get a SMALLER limit. It's a nice trick, hey download faster! (so evidently more) so you can bust your limit faster!

I feel you buddy, but I've been dealing with this shit for the past 5 years. Society is forcing gamers to live alone. Cause with a gamer room mate... yeah

  • i know i don't know how much Canadians pay for internet access but here in greeley co us of a it aint cheap. i got comcast for cable internet that is almost $100 a month and if i remember a 25g cap. there is qwest but if you have old wiring it don't go fast, mine is like from the 60's or 70's so no go there. there is going through cellular companies but they have caps and expense there too. i got open range but they have so many on it that it ends up slow as sin, open range is a wimax thing

  • *yelling* HAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!

  • aw man...

i thought canada was awesome until this :(

  • I... Didn't know about this. I'm Canadian too &, considering how my life currently is, this VERY much directly effects me. Once I can figure that OpenMedia site out I'll sign petitions & such. I'm not gonna just gonna sit idly by while what is currently my ONLY access to socializing with other people is limited. I'm not gonna sit here & watch as I can no longer freely choose when I play multiplayer games on my gaming console all because I'm POOR. (I'm on disability.)

    Fuck UBB.

  • @ShadeC4 If it helps, the petition is quicklinked via stopthemeter.ca

  • @Vange1us I just signed the petition, liked it on FB & donated everything in my PayPal account: $10.39 CAD

I'm gonna start browsing their site for a local rally. I'm gonna do my best to get as active in this as I possibly can.

  • make some dubstep

  • I hope that Canada can come up with a better solution to this than what has been presented. Its essentialy Canada isolating itself from the rest of the world.

On a lighter note.....Your medals intrigue me sir, please continue.

  • canadas turning communist...

  • SO MANY MEDALS 8D

  • Suddenly I picture individual Internet countries. Anyway that sucks dude I hope a change for the better happens for you Canadians and New Zealanders.

  • I really hope it's just for Downloading, and not Uploading.

  • @Sleepy0Wolf It's both, 25gb/ mth

  • @Brainy1422 Eeeeeech. D:(

If worse comes to worse, I'd totally donate to Vangelous so he could upload his stuff.

  • i am with you sir

  • We have had UBB in NZ for years. It sucks arse. I am constantly concerned about 'running out of internet' =(

  • I feel your pain about download limits! I'm in the UK My ISP has a 60gig limit, and since streaming (which I do alot of) counts, my Internet will often get it's speed slowed down for most of the day. It's becoming a bit of a chore convincing my parents to upgrade to a limitless provider.

Also, why do I get the feeling that you're Yummy would be something to do with a big robot or a computer ;).

  • Sounds just like Ireland, I feel your pain.

  • I used to worry about this in Australia till I changed ISP's. Went from paying $130 a month for 60Gb limit to paying $100 a month for 400Gb. Sounds like Canada needs a rogue ISP that is going to offer a low price with a large limit plan

  • lol im from canada and i know what u mean because i only get 60g a month and that means im screwed for netflix

  • In rural parts of american and parts of austrailia this is happening too. I agree with you that it takes us back, however I am somewhat hopefull that it wont happen for very long. Keep in mind (and as you said) this is the golden internet age where most of the time humans spend their free time typing texting downloading and watching. So I think that this wont become much of a problem, but then again I am simply being optomistic. I congradulate you on your composure on the matter and wish luck.

  • Since providing internet service requires a very high amount of capital, it makes sense that there are very few service providers; typical example of economies of scale. I understand what you're saying, and I totally agree. Putting such a heavy cap on Canada's internet is really going to limit Canada's ability to create and interact with the world on an individual base. It's going to kill a lot of opportunities for a lot of people, and I really your policy makers will understand that.

  • Finally, something wrong with Canada. I remember back when here in NJ that they tried taxing songs on Itunes. Like if you bought a song for $.99, you would be charged a extra buck. I don't think the law pass

  • I think Optimus Prime said it best: "Freedom to use the Internets is the right of all sentient Canadians."

...Well, if he didn't say that, I'm sure he'd agree.

  • ORE NO CORES!!

  • Unfortunately, America is in the thrall of a socialist, communist, kenyan, liberal, President and he used his evil socialist powers to support net neutrality and stopped a similar bill here. If we had a nice, god fearing conservative leader, we too could have the joy of paying more.

  • @eugimon Hehe. I have to admit, you had me there for a second. LOL!

  • I use Virgin Mobile Broadband2go USA and I just got a bandwidth cap also.

  • i honestly agree with you i mean why must you pay to do all that it seriously would be terrible

  • its her in the uk im with karoo im paying £35 a month just to not to cear about gb i use it pisses mo off your grate vangelus i love tgwtg vids

  • Good video, although I gurantee you irish internet is worse

  • and im proud to be an america where my internet is free

  • Mate, not behind Australia your not. Our idiotic country is and still is utilizing a UBB system, so I agree with your points STRONGLY and your pains that come with UBB before.

  • greeed...

  • I thought Shaw already did this...

My internet bill is high enough already...

  • @CigarsAndCynicism It's worse than that. Shaw just LOWERED their bandwidth caps.

  • Great, now I'm comparing the Canadian government to the Kougami Foundation.

  • sounds terrible. Will suck for canadian torrent/p2p users.. get your torch and pitchforks!

  • internet per meter thats sucks.

  • I never even heard of this turn of events, and I'm a Canadian myself. I'm going to have to go look this up so I can better understand what it's about. I would hate to see this scare away foreign companies services like XBOX Live or force me to ration my internet usage.

  • I think this is both the past and the future.

  • I am also a Whiskey subscriber! Welcome aboard, duder! To be honest, I think Whiskey should hire Vangelus to start a toy wiki.

  • it shouldn't be metered or throttled at all. the isps want to have their cake and eat it too.

  • that realy sucks man but i on the bright side i like your reverse hitler mustache.

  • My internet provider (Cogeco) has had a bandwidth cap for a while now. I get 125GB per month and I've learned how to use it to the fullest and have plenty to spare. You get used to it.

  • Damn man- that internet situation sucks major ass. Not fair to the users at all.

  • I signed the partition.

  • So... They're billing you for how big the files you upload files to the interwebz are? Are they billing you for how LONG you spend on the internetz? I'm probably entirely wrong here. Could someone explain this to me?

  • Dude, can Americans sign this petition? That is utter nonsense, because I know if like... if it successful in Canadia (Yes, Canadia) it could possibly come down to America, and that would suck. But if Americans can sign it. Send me up a link at TFW, Chris

    - The Demon Dzko

  • @Oamanu The petition can be quickly accessed via stopthemeter.ca

  • @Oamanu They JUST tried to do this in the US. If you want to keep the net open and free, read up on "net neutrality" and make sure your congress-person knows how you feel.

  • @Oamanu America has the "Net Kill Switch" to worry about of late.

  • online gaming for canada must suck now

  • My neutrality is challenged.

But I think I'm gonna take your side. I don't see an ultimate point for this.

  • The Internet thing is bull crap. They are trying to do that here in the states.

  • fuck ubb

  • @akba666,

Good post, here in the States we deal with net neutrality.
