From June 1969 until July 1970 I was stationed in Southeast Asia (Vietnam) with the Army. I can remember that one of the guys I served with had a Junior Walker cassette and would play this song, over and over and over. Fortunately I loved Junior and the All Stars and, in particular, this recording which is why it put a smile on my face to discover this post. As Charles Dickens once said, "it was the best of times, it was the worst of times."
@MrRonnieG My father was stationed at Anderson Air Force Base, on Guam, from August 1968 to September 1970. He called us to Guam, in December 1969, after he was able to get housing on the base. I was twelve years old. I brought this record from the Base Exchange on Guam, and used to always play it. I still play it. My father was in Vietnam, from May 1965 until June 1966. I have great memories of my family and I traveling around in the service with my father. Bronx, New York City.
Hi Motown Master very nice job please give me a call so that i can Help you with the History Facts of the Band Take care and God Bless you and your loved ones Acklee King Jr walkers Allstar Band 231-629-1298
I stand corrected, you are correct. The song is from Jan. 1970, I was in Vietnam, didn't get to listen to any music. I was thinking of What Does It Take To Win Your Love. My error, keep up the good work !
I haven't heard this song in at least 20 years. I wore this albumout The opening sax line was and is one of the best ever. How come you never hear this on the radio? A true work of genius!!!!
Jr died in Battle Creek Mich, in December 1995 from cancer, Willie Woods Deid 2 years later, James graves was killed in a car crash in 1967, Vic as far as i know is still alove
Junior just died within the last couple of years, I always loved his particular sound. Was in Vietnam from June 1969 until July 1970 and remember this studio recording like it was yesterday. Amazing how, in the midst of all that shit, I could remember the smile that Junior would always put on my face when I'd hear this song.
jamie, great work that you are doing keeping Jr's music alive. i have a home page on the "tagged" website (username Donnell1951)..i would love to put Jr's video's that you show onto my homepage. im a novice on the computer. how do i go about this. can u or anyone else there help me.
The bass player is SWINGING in this recording session..and the drummer found the bottom of the bass man's line with his snare "smack" - seems Jr. Walker then laid his vocal magic over the bass line & the drummer's groove. Awesome!
Yes...it is a DOPE track. 'Dope': colloqial meaning "really good" and 'It' referring to "Hold On To This Feeling" by Jr. Walker. Settle down...you sound old. The Bob and Rita Marley version adds a certain charm and simplistic innocence that often comes with duets (there are added lyrics in that version also). Covers are a part of music history and are always interresting. SOMETIMES they can even be a more compelling interpretation than the original.
Great, great song! I see the label's well worn, but the sound is clean on that 45. Sure could use this kind of real, honest to goodness, heartfelt music on the radio these days.
Many thanks MotownMaster. So glad you have a passion for this music and are keeping the joy they bring alive. Much appreciated by a dedicated motown fan.

Jr. Walker, a musician in a class all his own. Commanded his sax as only a King can command his kingdom. What else and how else could one describe
this genius?

Thanks MotownMaster.
I love the behind the music info that you give, but, you're only 24, It's good to see someone so young with so much Motown info.
Do you have a song by the Temptations called You'll lose a precious love?
Also, do you have Stevie Wonder's song: Sign this contract on love.
Thank you so much.
