Tilikum cannot be freed. When Keiko (free willy) was freed he needed a huge amount of support from trainers to learn how to be wild again and during this time came into contact with the public off shore. Given what Tilikum did, this could not be done for him.

I think it's somewhat unfair you alls reactions. They don't abuse their animals and they don't force them to do anything. The reason one was in a smaller pool was to keep him from harming any others. Now I do think they should release this killer whale since it's unsuitable for seaworld, but Seaworld has never intended wrong doing. Plus we have to remember, human life is more valuable then animal life. To say poor whale stupid human is unreasonable because we dot knownthe circumstances fully.
forevershining - i shared the same exact opinion as you did but then i realized that keeping the animal confined to a tank is abuse in itself. they are used to swimming hundreds of miles in the ocean every day and they have to float listlessly in that tank every day of their lives until they die. you're right they aren't forced to do tricks and the trainers love them like kids but in all honesty just keeping them in a tank is like a prison. they are unhappy and should be let go.

i think we shouldn't cage animals for entertaining people. the only good reason i can come up with to keep animals in cage is if the species are in threat of extinction and need help to recover.

Those small pens which you can see aren't actually where they're kept. They're kept in much larger areas behind those smaller pens. Those ones in the video are holding pens which are used before the shows begin. So, to say that they're continuously kept in them is a wrong statement to make.
Ok but...come on. In the wild these animals swim hundreds of miles a day. There is no way you can build a tank big enough to give an animal this size the room it truly needs. Enough exploitation of the Orca and the porpoise and the sharks. Leave them in their natural habitat. They weren't mean to be "friends" with us and to be pet and cuddled and played with.

forevershining - here is an example ...after hurricane katrina people were pulled out of their homes & werent allowed to take their animals with them so pets were without food for several days. the aspca (i think) came in several days later on boats and rescued defenseless animals which were left to die on people's rooftops and they mostly found dead, emaciated bodies. Animals were not rescued because they were looked at as of less importance.But they depend on us to care for them and we should.

Dawn Brancheau's death is tragic, as she seemed to love her job, the animals, and life. But it should not be put on all dangerous animals. The term "killer whale" is a misnomer. It's not a whale, it's an orca. Its closest genetic relatives are dolphins and porpoises.
As MrRig0 pointed out, they are the ocean's top predators; they kill sharks! (check out an excellent documentary called "The Whale That Ate Jaws" on Natgeo)

I think it's somewhat unfair you alls reactions. They don't abuse their animals and they don't force them to do anything. The reason one was in a smaller pool was to keep him from harming any others. Now I do think they should release this killer whale since it's unsuitable for seaworld, but Seaworld has never intended wrong doing. Plus we have to remember, human life is more valuable then animal life. To say poor whale stupid human is unreasonable because we dot knownthe circumstances fully.

forevershining - i shared the same exact opinion as you did but then i realized that keeping the animal confined to a tank is abuse in itself. they are used to swimming hundreds of miles in the ocean every day and they have to float listlessly in that tank every day of their lives until they die. you're right they aren't forced to do tricks and the trainers love them like kids but in all honesty just keeping them in a tank is like a prison. they are unhappy and should be let go.

That killer whale was evil. If I had my way I would throw it out at high altitude (35,000ft) from the back of a C-130 transporter plane with a set of auto-opening parachutes primed to open at a height of only 800ft.

Those small pens which you can see aren't actually where they're kept. They're kept in much larger areas behind those smaller pens. Those ones in the video are holding pens which are used before the shows begin. So, to say that they're continuously kept in them is a wrong statement to make.

Ok but...come on. In the wild these animals swim hundreds of miles a day. There is no way you can build a tank big enough to give an animal this size the room it truly needs. absoftitanium! I am a porpoise and killer whale expert with over 20 years expertise in my field. The trouble with this whale is it has not received a 'Killer Whale Behavioural' therapy programme/treatment regime.
What do I recommend? 'Air-Way Thought Realignment Therapy' involving the pouring of 2 litres of 17% Capsicum pepper spray liquid into the killer whales blow hole on a daily basis for 4-6 months. The pool must be emptied to do so!

forevershining - here is an example ...after hurricane katrina people were pulled out of their homes & werent allowed to take their animals with them so pets were without food for several days. the aspca (i think) came in several days later on boats and rescued defenseless animals which were left to die on people's rooftops and they mostly found dead, emaciated bodies. Animals were not rescued because they were looked at as of less importance.But they depend on us to care for them and we should.

Maybe the whale was pissed because he didn't want to be in captivity. We think these are just "animals" but they might be just a bit more intelligent then they appear. This thing chose to kill their "trainer" and had the ability to plan and put it into action. Crazy stuff.

R.I.P. Dawn Brancheau. Dawn died doing what she loved. She was happy and having a good time. Tilikum is clearly dangerous and unpredictable. They should put him down. Sea World's being selfish by refusing to put Tilikum down. It's only a matter of time before Tilikum kills another trainer.

He is dangerous and unpredicatable because he is supose to be free, not in a pool interacting with humans so sea World can make money! This KILLER whale did not ask to be put in a pool! If humans wouldn't have taken him out of his own habitat this would not have occured!now you think he should die because of human actions, your really fair! As much money as they have made off this whale, they should use it to rehab him and put him back in the ocean so something like this doesn't happen again.

Dawn Brancheau's death is tragic, as she seemed to love her job, the animals, and life. But it should not be put on all dangerous animals. Every single animal on this earth is dangerous to another organism of some sort. Look how much we kill. Not saying that we should stop and all turn vegetarian. But we have to take things in context. One very tragic/unfortunate death does not mean that every dangerous animal should be killed now.

Dont imprison Gods creatures, even in watery zoos. They are supposed to be swimming free in their natural environment, not imprisoned in a tank and reduced to mere things that folks pay to gawk at. I AM A MARINE MAMAL SPECIALIST specialising in porpoises and killer whales! ! This is how you 're-educate' this killer whale.
1.Drain the pool its in
2.Send in a team of 'Whale Behavioural Facilitators' wearing steel toe capped boots
3.Kick the whale with full force continually for 5 minutes daily
4.Repeat on daily basis for approx 4-6 months.
After kicking period finished refill the pool with treacle to curtail maneuverability so to limit any aggressive tendencies.

The term "killer whale" is a misnomer. It's not a whale, it's an orca. Its closest genetic relatives are dolphins and porpoises.
As MrRig0 pointed out, they are the ocean's top predators; they kill sharks! (check out an excellent documentary called "The Whale That Ate Jaws" on Natgeo)
Keeping wild animals confined is inhumane. It's no wonder elephants would go "mad" occasionally. I'm amazed more deaths don't occur. Sea World, zoos, & circuses should be outlawed.
