@WillyPhister depper scratches um i dont think it really matters does it lol i think touch up paint would of worked, then do this process. would of cost you about 40 bucks and not a total of 300+ with lazy bodyshop workers that will leave it till the next day 5 hours before you come and pick up your car no afence to bodyshop workers....
it`s easy to understand the clear coat in the structure of your paint is the most harder protecction against the decoloration, when you put a sand paper against let a clear coat more thin, of course the surface its more like a baby butt, but the protective layer becomes more weak.
Im not at all impressed with this guy's technique. It sure doesnt look like he's been doing this for 30 years. Theres still going to be sanding marks visible in the paint, along with the original scratches.
good job, just a question, isn't any difference between the treaded part with polish and the rest? isnt more shining? and if u had to do on an old car, with old paint?
@Boodieman72 Because it makes your clearcoat thinner and if you're not careful you can either put fine scratches in your paint or wear through the clearcoat.
@02mustang38v6 The idea behind wet sanding to to put uniform scratches in the paint while removing the portion of clear coat that has been damaged. Then buff out the area to remove the wet sanding marks. I do say that before starting you need to use an paint thickness gauge so you know what your starting with. Professional detailers have been wet sanding cars for a long time.
@Albertgr1980 if you love you're car paint dont let it get scratched in the first place. If you really love your car paint you'll take it to someone like me and i'll do this to your entire car, except i'll use a DA sander and level the paint to the point where there is no more orange peel texture. factory paint jobs are far from perfect, but with a lot of sanding and polishing they can become perfect.
@theciskokidd sure, you can do that usually with solid colors. Silvers and flakes dont blend very well. Allow the touch up paint to cure for a couple days so that it hardens well. Then when you go to sand it wont smear. Not for novices by the way.
how can motor shops charge 100+£ for this when the job takes less than 20 minutes. Most car garages especially manufacturer's garages are a TOTAL RIP OFF
HI MARTY THIS JEFF CAN YOU GIVE ME SOME CLUE WHERE I CAN GO TO REMOVE THE SCRATCH ON MY Hyundai THIS MY NUMBER (347) 431-5087 YES WILL IT WORK IF YOUR CAR WAS KEYED????
@kyle51895 it depends on how deep the scratch is, if its goes past the clear coat it cant be removed, but it can be well blended by a skilled detailer.
@george230 This guy is nothing, anyone can do what he just did. and body shop quality is usually pretty lack luster, time is money and half ass work is the norm for most businesses. The problem your average person is too dumb to notice poor work.
@WillyPhister Don't you understand, hes trying to prove that anyone can do this you prick. The name of the video isn't "average person is too retarded to do this" its deep scratch removal. Think before you be a river troll next time.
Thank you ! Excellent job this guy is great, used work at a well known Body repair Shop in the UK but got really pissed off with the blatant lies we were forced to tell customers by management so i quit. This guy is rite they do leave your car for Hours because they know that jobs like this can be done in 20 mins but some bodyshops exploit customers , its sickening....but true, not all body shops are guilty though but these are the minority in my experience.
I have numerous small scratches on my Santa Fe's hood. This is from the snow and ice sliding off during the winter. The scratches aren't so deep. What would you recommend I do to make the repair. Thank You.
My car is a light blue/grayish color. It has Deep scratches like this one and dings. Would i sand the whole car with 1200 grit and then prime it, then add the new base color? which i want a metallic silver/grey. and then the clear coat? what do you recommend?
just awesome, like other people said i wasnt gunna think this would work with the sand paper but looks bran new, well done im gunna try think on some of my deep scatches now!
So what happens if you decide to slack on your clay bar, polish , wax regime does the scratch come back or is that permenent correction? I have a few small scratches and I can do a small amount of detailing but i'm still learning the art so i'm just worried about making it look great right away then a few car washes down the road its back.
I wouldnt be so liberal with the sandpaper with paint so thin. Maybe try a bit under the door, in the sill... to see how much you can sand??... Just be soft with it.
Good video, busting the myth that removing automotive paint defects is NOT rocket science. A simple video, the right products and a few minutes is all you need.
I would add that wet sanding with a flexible urethane sanding block will give you more uniform and accurate sanding scratches when compared to sanding with bare fingers.
I'm not much of a fan of hyundai either...but i have to admit...the new hyundai sonata does not look bad. Also, around my area, it is new car buying season and even though I'm not rich like the people around me...I'm seeing less and less new mercedes and bmw's and more hyundais. Today being monday, I've probably counted more than 7 new sonatas without their plates just last week.
Another note: Does anyone know why he used polybutene?
@Rocketyt All new cars have a clear coat. The damage on this Hyundai is in the clear. If the technique used was performed on a deeper scratch into the base coat or deeper it would not work. It will need paint of some sort. If the scratch temporarilly disappears when a liquid is applied then the damage is in the clear coat (as happens here). It is easy to go through the clear with wet and dry or aggressive buffing and the affected area will be very dull and basically stuffed.
Excellent info on your main page. 2 questions, I have a Orbital Buffer that runs at 2250rpms. Would it be better to use the 1k rpm butter you recommend from Harbor Frieght (which I discovered by our house last and spent $500, thanks to you) haha.
Last question, why does some wax creams not want to dry and turn clay like on the car? Old stuff or not enough sun?? Thanks ...Ron
