The movie spends 10 minutes showing a trip that likely took them weeks

Omar Sharif's part in the opening exposition is wonderful. His voice is so suspensful and wonderous that we don't even notice that it is explaining everything to us.

this movie is very good, but the details are very bad cause arab horses for example where much biiger than viking horses that were actually small. The vikings however were not short and fat as someone here mentioned, i dont see how one can be fat in these times. Also their armor is crazy one has a gladiator helmet and the other 16 century conquistador armor. Laslty viking swords were light, well made and pretty well balanced they were quit small compared to many medieval swords.

Okay it is possible to learn foreign languages by hearing.It's way easier if you know some words.Even so for example the first Spanish conquistadors of America learned Indian without any starting words just by hearing and gestures.I for example learned english mainly by listening to movies(they did have subtitles though).In this case it's just a movie mechanic to make the storytelling easier.I like it.Way better than most movies where characters somehow know the language from the start.

this movie is very good, but the details are very bad cause arab horses for example where much biiger than viking horses that were actually small. The vikings however were not short and fat as someone here mentioned, i dont see how one can be fat in these times. Also their armor is crazy one has a gladiator helmet and the other 16 century conquistador armor. Laslty viking swords were light, well made and pretty well balanced they were quit small compared to many medieval swords.

Okay it is possible to learn foreign languages by hearing.It's way easier if you know some words.Even so for example the first Spanish conquistadors of America learned Indian without any starting words just by hearing and gestures.I for example learned english mainly by listening to movies(they did have subtitles though).In this case it's just a movie mechanic to make the storytelling easier.I like it.Way better than most movies where characters somehow know the language from the start.

you need to read your history mr. vikings cause scandinavians never really pillaged the muslim world, they tried with constantinople and got beat, vikings in the east came more as merchants than anything else, most of the raiding happened in western europe. vikigns were not dumb they knew it was more profitable to raid the west and trade in the east. The funny thing is vikings had a much better relationship with muslims, byzantines and russians than with western europeans.
