how do you know what is the right size string when you are retieing the strings because they are too tight or lose

First I would recommend getting a restringing kit if you can. I took his old string to the fabric store and got the exact same size in by the yard cloth covered round elastic. Don't use thinner elastic, especially on an SD, it won't hold.

I plan to buy an Angell Studio MSD Leira, but from some forum discussions I'veread on DenOfAngels, they say that the strings/elastic snap easily. Is this true? Because she would be my first BJD, so I'm not sure...

The elastic does not snap easily, unless that only happens tp Angell Studio brand. All of my dolls are still on their first elastic except for Xavier and his was changed because I bought his body separate from his head and it was too tight to put him together.

There's nothing wrong with 1/6 dolls, most of my family are Littles at DolfieLittles(dot)com. Get the dolls you like and don't worry what other people think about them, it's your doll.

If the doll is too tight the joints may snap in to a bent position and it won't pose, it will feel tight. Too loose and it won't keep a pose.

If your doll bends it's limbs easily and holds a pose then it's fine.

No, most dolls will be perfectly fine. Of the 7 I have only Xavier was restrung because his strings were too tight.

Yes I am, I took Xavier apart because he needed a good bath and it's not a good idea to get the strings wet incase they don't dry. His body isn't blushed.

what exactly did you do to take off the cap? i have to pull really hard to lift it up, and im not sure how to detach/reattach it without completely messing up. im too paranoid and cautions because i think that ill break the string and ill never be able to put it back together again xP

There is an S shaped hook that connects his strings to a latch on his cap. I'm using needle nose pliers to hold the s hook and unlatch it from the cap. To put it back on I just hook it again. You can't break the strings if they're elastic.

I'm on DoA now, look for pics of my Dollzones including the Bowies. I was scared to take him apart but I had bought his head seperately and the body was way to tight to latch on to the head. He felt much better after. Once you get that first foot or the head cap off it goes easy.

By all means get one, Dollzones are wonderful and most if not all are fine. Of the four Dollzones and other ABJDs I own only Xavier needed to be restrung. With any bjd there is a small chance of them being too tight. Usually they will losen up if you play with them. He's held together with round elastic chord and there are metal hooks on his hands and feet.
