Right now I am using port forwarding on my IPcop router firewall. I plan on migrating my web server to one of my other free IP addresses soon so that I don't have to use port forwarding. It has worked well for the past year or so though. I currently have nothing plugged into the Verizon router and the wifi is disabled. It is simply allowing the set top boxes to access the internet.
Maybe instead of running a KVM cable all the way upstairs use cabling you already have in place.... KVM over ip. The switches aren't too expensive on eBay.
@Echo7049 So you have a physical router with the WAN port in the internet lan and the LAN port in the Home LAN or is the routers WAN directly plugged into the modem and both the internet VLAN and the home LAN plugged into LAN ports?
I have a patch panel at the other end of the cables (in my bed room, for the cables that go upstairs). I figured that Since the only thing that the cables in the closet would go to is the switch that at this time there was no reason to install a patch panel. Thanks for the comment.
Does your ups charge the battery properly or not now that you replaced it? Thanks.

This might sound dumb but how exactly does your VLAN for your room and stuff access the internet if thats on a diff lan?
Eientatsu 2 years ago
I have a router between the two VLANs.
Internet vlan -> router -> Home LAN

Yes, I have a physical router connected twice to the switch.
ONT -> VLAN 1 -> Physical router port 1 -> physical router port 2 -> VLAN 2 -> cables to the rest of the house connected to VLAN 2
