@alannorth You don't need a physics degree know what "Modulate" or "Parameter" means. If you don't know what they mean, you shouldn't be working with Ableton. GarageBand would be more appropriate for beginners.
@TheAlexProductions10 People have got to start somewhere buddy. I didn't know what those words meant when I started with Ableton either, but that's why he is here to learn! Putting people down doesn't help anyone out.
You have to have a physics degree to understand these videos. The people making these videos have no idea that the majority of musicians and/or those who CREATE, don't neccessarily have the toolkit in their brain to process all these technical terms but you still carry on as if you expect us to know what "Modulate" or "parameter" means. No the people who end up getting something out of these vids are not creative, they are engineers or have a scientific background who end up doing shite music.
@alannorth im just watchin it 2 learn how 2 use sampler, i cant technically explain modulate n that but I can make the noise I think it does...dont need no physics degree to b creative my man ;) but I can understand it would give you more understanding yeah
i love using ableton, gave me many ideas after i moved from sonar to ableton i started gaining new ideas. Check out this rap beat i started in live . watch?v=_y45fGwZyxA
so can anybody tell me how i would get a sample to play sustained for as long as i hold down the key im using. say im using a bass sound from vengeance essential house. seemed like it was done using the loop options but i can figure it out. if anybody knows what i mean n can help me out let me know please in a message. thanks
Is it possible to only change the pitch of one certain position of an audio file, without changing the speed of it, then save it, and put it as a MIDI note into a MIDI track and then change the speed without changing the frequency of it? I've tried so much things and it didnt work, either it changed the frequency or the speed :(
can anyone tell me how can i set the cue point to the sample editör which is at the right bottom of sequence window? but not want to mean arrange window
@MAXIMUSMISCHIEF also, when he starts the 'designing sounds' part, the sample is playing automatically. it doesnt show how to make the sample play, i hit space bar and nothing happens.
these tutorials are no good for someone who is just starting out with this stuff.... they leave way too much out.
ok this is just too confusing. you really need t know what you are doing. I love Ableton but this is like learning to play an instrument...really well. Whoever knows how to do this well has my show of respect. don't take all of this as a negative comment, i'm just commenting on the complexity of it all, which to a large extent is a show of the programs depth. Keep up the creative programing work Ableton
@1337Oxim no it doesn´t unless they change their policy on those who bought suite 8 which I have, and the latest update I had a free update from 8.0, to 8.1, so I don´t know if the next update would be free, I will have to wait and see for 9.0 of live. But its worth the money to get suite 8, and ableton live support team, really do care about the customers. Hope this was of any help.
He did move fast in the video. If someone doesn't have an idea of how synths/samplers work, I could see them getting lost. The technique he used is actually referred to as wavetable synthesis by some.
All in all, I think it was a great video and it really shows the programming depth of Sampler.
@powersmine Firefox and Google Chrome have extensions called "youtube downloader" or something similar, that allow you to navigate to any youtube video and download it to your hard drive. You can then play the resulting FLV file with VLC Player or Media Player Classic. I know at least one of those players has FLV support.
ladies and gentlemen this is Ableton Live!

So he pretty much took a piano sample, did a bunch of complicated shit, then put a louder oscillator on top so you couldn't hear the gross piano....

he doesnt enable looping, he doesnt show how to do that. he just says it and then goes ahead and does the next step.
