I apologize if someone has already asked this and I missed it. Is that Layne singing in the background of this song? I am curious, but I don't have the album to look at the liner notes. Thanks!
Layne doesn't sing background vocals on this, Jerry recorded it after the Nothing Safe sessions in late 98. The song was all about Layne though, Jerry really expresses how much he cares about Layne and how worried is about him.
Umm what is it about then? Cuz Layne was 31 almost 32 when Jerry wrote this, and he says the person is probably going to "end up dead alone in a hotel room" sounds like its about Layne to me.
I said the centreal theme is not about layne not the whole song, listen to the rest of it, its about jerrys life, it talks about his dad in the war and about growing up with his mother
Look, I have a magazine from 2002 where Jerry was interviewed just prior to the release of D-Trip. He is asked about every song on the album, what inspired it, so and so. The only songs on D-Trip where Jerry even MENTIONED Layne were Psychotic Break (voices of my dead friends ring on), and Gone, which was actually written to another friend of Jerry's who died, Randy Castillo. I quote, "D-Trip is my autobiography, if you will. My personal ride thru the last 20 years or so."
when I first heard this song, towards the end, the signing in the background sounded almost EXACTLY like Layne and I was like "holy shit, why not have this an AIC song?" but then I kinda clued in that it wasn't him later on in the song since I can sort of tell the difference between Jerry's voice and Layne's. it's almost eerie, though. how close they were to each other, and how close they can sound to one another.
This song makes me cry everytime I listen to it :(
All of JC's songs are great, I knew I would find some music that I could connect to, Alice in Chains and Jerry Cantrell make the music that I like and connect with. I'll never ever forget this music. Never. :)
Oh, and I didn't mean ACTUALLY cry. Just the feeling of wanting to cry. But still, you're a goddamned asshole. Don't talk to me craymike, I'm not in the mood for your bullshit comments.
Anger Rising was the only mainstream song on Degradtion Trip. I could understand that because the other songa he wrote weren't really radio material, but they're damn good songs!!!
I'm glad Jerry got some country tunes out on this record. He's great at them...

Don't be an asshole. It's an emotional song. Besides, people respond differently to songs.
Fucking dick.

degradation trip vols. 1 and 2 are really good. it's almost a shame that it didn't go more mainstream.

Ya'll should check out the song Pig Charmer or Castaway by Cantrell... 2 of his best works. They were recently posted on Youtube.

Jerry makes reference to war and heartache suffered by those close to war... I doubt if this had anything at all to do with Layne.

I'm sick of people assuming that every song jerry writes is about layne

best jerry song.

I'm not sure it's about Layne. It seems more auto-biographical than anything. "Age adult mother gone..."
I don't know. It's great that not all his songs are transparent.
"Make a living miking scars" is such a great line. Great song.

Oops, sorry about the typo. Meant "milking", obviously.

It is not about Layne specifically at all, It's about Jerrys life.

funny that this song isn't on here as a layne staley tribute seeing as its about layne
