  • Since when does detroit police have black & whites ?

  • Our truck has on star!

  • In the USA, car controls you.

  • A family friend of mine was hit by a drunk driver while she was in her new Cobalt. Both drivers were unconcious and seriously hurt. They were out in the country at night, and if she didn't have OnStar, they both would have likely died or been in much worse condition if OnStar didn't send the police and paramedics. So I think it's a useful feature.

  • Tired of this babysitter world. Cops don't give two shits about your stolen car.

  • hey, thats the new 2011 Chevy Caprice police car

  • Comment removed

  • @Sunburn2007 Look again pal. Thats 75. And you cant use an actual police car in an ad. Plus its about a Tahoe stolen Downtown. Thats about as accurate as you get.

  • Actually we're both wrong. It's I-375 technically. I did make a goof about that. But it is not an accurate ad because OnStar does not have direct communication with officers on the street like that. It doesn't work like that.

So it is misleading. People who have OnStar will think if their car is stolen, OnStar can pick up a radio and alert all the officers in the area. And that does not happen. Trust me, I know.

  • What do you call this stupid commercial where they give the impression that Onstar has a direct link to Law Enforcement radio channels????? I call that a SCAM!!!!!!!!!! Grow up!!!!!!

  • Onstar is nothing but a big scam from General Motors to make us wanna buy their useless junk vehicles!!!!! Wake up, you moron!!! There's a Chevy commercial playing that says, "may the best car win." Well guess what: the best car did win. It's called the Honda Accord!!!!!!

  • @happy543210 Haha hope you're joking!

I would never trust that asian junk to save my life

GM makes great products and Onstar has saved many lives...MORON!

  • @ travistivo

You seem to be one of OnStar's biggest fans. This means you would voluntarily allow yourself to become a government experiment, who wouldn't mind seeing just how far the government can travel up your obnoxiously loose and compliant ass before you notice anything wrong.

If anything, you're the real idiot here.

  • This gives people a false impression on OnStar's services. OnStar employees have absolutely no direct communication with law enforcement over their radios. They make a phone call, and in many cases, officers get a description of a vehicle to look for. Maybe they find it, maybe not.

  • @travistivo

stop it just stop it. or Santa Clause will Rape you in all his Christmas Joy

  • What the police need is a better education. What the police need is more money, paid more for their jobs, paid more for what they do. Because they can't be paid more, and they aren't required to obtain higher education before servicing the public, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, allow the cop cam. This gives the Judge information which can help both the police officer and the public to insure that the laws are either being followed or violated and I see no down-side.

  • Okay.....but why they gotta make the commercial in Detroit? They really didn't make any effort to blur out the really obvious things....

  • My comment is...why on Earth were you watching this?? Lol

  • LOL they would shoot this in Detroit, where stupid people do steal cars with Onstar

  • this commercial is fucking awesome

  • Any criminal who chooses a car with onstar is an idiot!

  • I love this I want onstar.

  • Onstar is nothing but another government scam meant to keep tabs on you.

I'm not buying into this bullshit.

Do not buy an onstar equipped vehicle.

  • @RuralCoconut shutup

  • @RuralCoconut

thats disturbing someone else can power down your engine. Won't be long until they will have Box's in the car that record your speed and if you go over it automatically sends you a Ticket and like if you don't pay the ticket or pay your car insurance they can make it so you can't turn your car on. that's scary

  • @ titanicdblog

I knew I wasn't the only one around here who has common sense regarding OnStar and it's deviousness. To think that thousands of people in this country don't know what they're really delving into whenever they buy an OnStar equipped vehicle is shocking to say the least. They're all being tricked and they don't even know it. All new vehicles now already have a box that can record how fast the vehicle was traveling if you got into an accident.

  • This is horrifying. This kind of power over someone's vehicle should not exist.

  • @psychomelodramajean Then don't get the service! It's your friggin choice.

  • I love how the onstar lady has direct access to the police officer's radio channel. This, of course, is total nonsense and false advertisement!!!! I have relatives in law enforcement; they don't share their frequency with any civilian corporations!!!!

  • why doesn't onstar put on a commercial where you have to wait AT LEAST 24 hours for onstar to unlock your car because you left your keys inside??? This would be more realistic!!!

  • Yep, you're right, they don't share frequencies with the cops...yet.

  • This commercial is filmed in Detroit, MI, where GM's headquarters is located.

  • I am SO GLAD that Onstar does not just get on police dispatch channels to tell the cops what to do...

  • this is a big no i dont want nobody else having control on my veichle but me

  • but dude wat if some other guy comes without u knowing and they break into ur vehicle and leave with the vehicle wat will u do then u cant chase it thats why they have the on star communication thing so that when ur vehicle is stolen the system will know and automaticly contact the cops in seconds and then the system will stop the car from whoever is stealing and when it stops that person cant go no where it comes to a complete stop and then they bring ur vehicle back for u man

  • @lasosg Yeah, and the point is that when someone tries to steal your vehicle, that person won't have control of your vehicle... Only you...

  • you know what if im taking somebody to the hospital or emergency and cops are chasing me they could turn of my car but i just dont like other people control your veichle i like the other features of onstar not so much this one i mean the gov could have many uses for this which i dont like

  • @lasosg The government doesn't have control of your car. Only OnStar does. And only you have the authority to tell OnStar to turn off the engine.

  • GM said they would not use this tech a year ago on NPR... What has changed about GM?? Oh yeah the gov't owns them. They apparently can also deflate your tires through the TPS. Tech has been around since On Star was installed in vehicles. I will be cutting the On Star function out of my TB ASAP before they decide to send me a speeding ticket via the GPS unit... Not that I condone speeding.

  • hmm this siren sounds like the federal signal pa 4000

  • Sterling666 - it is filmed in Detroit where else. Like they can't leave well enough alone. Lets put another nail in the citys coffin why don't they. Yes we all know what you think of us way to go GM/Onstar.

  • Where is this video filmed? i think i know, but not sure.

...the US govt is better than 85% of the planet. get a grip and a honest perspective. I do agree, though, that this could become a slippery slope to total control...

  • It's the Detroit Metro Area.

0:08 & 0:12 is about 1/2 mile on I-375 going towards Detroit approaching Jefferson Ave.

    0:11 is approaching I-375 from I-75.

0:20 is at I-375 & Jefferson Ave. near Greektown Casino.

  • "Freedom" to steal?

So we should remove all survailence cameras from buildings and stores?

  • that's complete bull shit. If the police have control of a crook's car then they can shut it down so the crook doens't jeprodize other people's well being. If they ran they would be more guilty then anything,u can't run if they shut your car down.

  • Why would the government abuse something like this? The corporate government loves us and would never use technology to control Americans. Trust your government, watch TV, watch commercials and buy cool stuff!

  • BIG BROTHER IS WATCHIN' YOU O__O

  • Oh goodie...and just think ... the most corrupt administration chock full of Marxist, Communists, Progressives and Chavez loving Liberals are in control of GM. Oh that will make me sleep so much better now knowing the communist loving freedom hating people are now able to control my car!

  • ONLY if it is stolen and you report it, retard.

  • Why would OnStar be on the PD dispatch frequency? This is gay...

  • This is a re-enactment of a conversation that would take place between an OnStar advisor and a officer.

  • @OnStar Hi ive got a 1.4 206 diesel. I took out the bulb from the trunk interior and the keys were in the ignition and the ignition was on along with the lights. As soon as i took out the bulb the window wipers started going and now the car wont start. When i try to get it to start it almost gets there but doesn't catch if you know what i mean. Have i ruined my car or maybe ive blown a few fuses? Any ideas, cheers

  • @Rofocowboy84 bc its part of governmnet motors

  • @XXRichieXXrichXX

That doesn't mean anything, they still wouldn't be on the PD frequency talking with the officers....

  • @Rofocowboy84 yeah but the government all ways wants to be in controle of everything thats y i dont buy chevys

  • @XXRichieXXrichXX Its supposed to stop your car from being stolen. Also, if yo uread another comment, YOU have to call the police to start the Onstar vehicle slowdown.

  • OnStars Stolen Vehicle Slowdown is not activated on a vehicle until the subscriber reports their stolen vehicle to authorities and requests Stolen Vehicle Assistance from OnStar. We have a video posted explaining how the system works. Watch: "How Do They Do It" - Stolen Vehicle Assistance

  • @OnStar

I still prefer my non-big brother vehicles, thank you....

  • This is Big Brother and we are here to help you.

  • All you haters out there. Onstar has been able to do this for years. How petty are you to believe the gov't will just shut your car down because they want to. Looks like all the fear instilled by the previous White House is now turning you guys loony.

  • Because there are sooo many things that the government has shown their propriety and restraint with. Yeah, I agree. And, while we're at it, let's give them direct access to our bank accounts to make it easier to pay taxes. They can just take out whatever we owe, no questions asked. I can't imagine the government ever abusing any of the power we give them. Good point.

  • Something tells me sales of Escalades are going to tumble.

  • This makes me not feel so bad for driving a 1990 century! I have more freedom than people with new vehicles!

  • Big Brother

    Creepy

  • First of all, I have seen this commercial on TV and secondly, you have to report your vehicle stolen in order for OnStar to take action. Love my Tahoe!

  • The fact that we are willing to tolerate this type of intrusion is testament to the fact that people don't read! How about 1984, Anthem by Ayn Rand, Brave New World by Huxley - this is how it happens. And if fiction is too much for you, just read the history of any tyranny.

  • LOL the only people that have seen this commercial are people that follow Glenn Beck on Twitter.

  • That's a great idea! I'm going to check him out there

  • I'd say we're better informed then! wouldn't you?

  • Oh I didn't mean that as a bad thing- the only reason I saw this was because of Glenn Beck, too. I just found it amusing that followers of the guy Obama is trying so hard to discredit are the most informed.

  • sorry, I just read too many hate comments about Beck and have become expectant of sarcasm. so I guess you're better informed also!

  • Nothing but the best for our subjects of Government Motors. We love that they are there to protect us from ourselves. All hail Barack Obama, mmmm mmmm mmmm mmmm.

  • If you're fool enough to purchase an ObamaMotors vehicle, you deserve to have your every move monitored and controlled (but then if you're willing to buy a GM you probably voted for Obama, which says you want the government running your life anyway--so hey, this is the very thing for you!).

In a way this does remind of Obama though...it looks good, and at first it sounds like a great idea--something new, exciting--but scratch below the surface a bit and you see the evil lurking underneath.

  • Actually the demographics of GM buyers trend toward more towards conservatives according to the latest research. So there is no validity to your comment.

  • You're just another paranoid anti-obamaist

  • Creepy creepy creepy. No amount of cash can take my clunker. 'I' am the only one controlling it.

    Gives me chills.

  • As someone said, in the context of the video great idea. When I am rushing my child to the ER and they think that I am a thief and they do that, a life is lost.

I am SURE that abuse would take place. For an administration that without the facts condemned an officer of racism, and Van Jones who loves cop killers, this is a strange move for a company owned by the White House. I can only think that it is meant for abuse. ANY dictator would love to have that power at their fingertips,

  • MEANT for abuse? Explain why. OnStar will only slow the vehicle down if you report it to the police. And why would you drive recklessly to the ER in the first place? Just call 911 for an ambulance.

  • It's a cool feature in the context of the video.

Which means in real life, it'll just piss you off. I'm down with scottfmls: give the off button to the owner.

This is why I own a Subaru, and why carbureted cars are still best.

  • glad I own a Ford

  • Why..?

  • Comment removed

  • that's doublespeak for "of course we will, we're practically the police ourselves!"

  • weaither its legal or not im sorry just gives me a little creepy feeling

  • I've never liked the idea of OnStar, knowing that a third party has that much intrusive ability in my vehicle. I'm not even worried about that ability being abused because I know that a power once handed to government is not easily taken back and that it WILL be abused.

Heard of J. Edgar Hoover anyone? Or the Patriot Act? And now this new ability in the hands of a corporation owned and run largely by a government that is showing every sign of growing to the bursting point? No thanks.

  • That is just to creepy

  • Here's an idea... How about I get a button to turn my car off? I don't need to wait for the police to be in a pursuit to kill the thing. Of course, I don't guess I'd have the "security" of knowing that Government Motors knows where I am and has the ability to control my vehicle.

  • never thought of it as being a problem but now that everybody brings it up, it does concern me that onstar can turn your car off.

  • Oh... they'll tell us it's all "for our own good", they will.

  • I wouldn't touch a car with OnStar if it was effin free. It cost me $100 recently to get the GPS thing in my cell phone disabled so that POS in the White House couldn't tap into that.

  • Onstar/GM. Hmm...Government now controls GM, which means the government can turn your cars off now everyone isn't that just great...

  • Very interesting. Someone has their finger on a button to shut my life support - I mean engine - off. Argh...

  • Human error. Computer error. Just waiting for the day OnStar disables the wrong car and causes a crash.

  • Good thing the government can turn off your car now. That's what I want.

  • lol i thought they were usin crown vics look like an impala or caprice

  • had to concentrateon camera quality O_O

  • u need to buy an HD-TV buddy.

  • um i do? but theres not tht much high quality on youtube....BUDDY T_T

  • yea that's nice, but what about when on star calls the cops cause your speeding??? Sounds a little too "big brother" for me.

  • Why would they do that?

  • MONEY, the same reason they have cops watching for speeders on a four lane straight highway with little or no traffic in the middle of the night.

  • States would make money and not GM(ir whatever car company has a built in GPS system in a car). So why would they give the states ability to get tickets from things in their cars while turning off customers and losing out on the profit from selling the option(which is where the money is in car sales)?

  • your own car

  • Could the police use that against you incase you run from them?

  • thats whats scary about OnStar " always watching you with thier satellite tracking technology same thing with GPS" just another step in the wrong direction

  • nice quality even on full screen

  • good video quality but gm is not to good.

  • you can still steal a brand new car what about making a key that cannot be copied?? gmc! call siemens like mercedes did

  • Ya, right... Only 16 vehicles in the WHOLE world were stopped by using On-star lst year.... LOL What a waste of the technology...

  • lol cuz only 16 vehicles actually use On-star!

  • LOL!

  • Perhaps and may be the carjackers avoid stealing the GM vehicles, don't you think?

  • Well, I think not too many thiefs actually do any research on those figures when they take them... LOL If they take the car for a joy ride- they choose any car that is available nearby. If they need parts from car then be assured-your moms Camry is more likely to be stolen and parted out then your own Chevy Cobalt or Traverse... LOL

  • hahahah this is funny dont ever steal a car that has some kind of security on it or onstar thing on it wow thats funny

  • iu love you guys and wanna wrk 4 u
