  • my band is playing this (i play the amazing timpani part:D) and we play it soooo much faster. doesnt sound perfect of course lol. at abuot 0:42 the trombones act like theyre on carousel with their horns XDDD

  • i remember playing this in high school, i loved it

  • Did you mean "Fantasia in G Major"?

  • Oh god, just make the tambourine player stop. >___<

  • EH EH SIMPATIC THANKS FRIENDSHIP OF MARSEILLE RAYMOND

  • really slow...

  • nice tamborine dude.. always off beat on the off beat

  • As the xylophonist (?), I can say that I live section C. Because I don't play it.

    OOMPAH OOMPAH

  • we're playing this as well (except faster) and all I can say is DAMN YOU SECTION C

  • This is played so slow, compared to what Lafayette band's Wind Symphony plays it at...

  • Maybe this is just me, but I think you played it at a speed that was perfect for your ensemble. Other groups play it faster because they think speed is more important than quality, and it ends up sounding really sloppy. Nice work.

  • We are playing this for SCVMEA Honors Band this year :)

  • Too slow..

    Where's the piccolo!?!?!?!?!?

    NEEDS more piccolo!!!

But the "Hey!" was cool. Lol

  • @larafan4eva Piccolo is what makes this song, I was told not to play for a while because I was splitting our directors ear drums

  • faster for sure, but it's a hard piece! really great to play though...

  • ya know what this needs? Super fast mode AHH!

  • Tooooo sloooowww

  • Woot!~ I get to play the xylophone on this song!~ This sounds fun.

  • 8th grade honors band! Trumpet but we went faster then this, but Travis J. Cross conducted this for us, that guy's the bomb!!! one of the coolest asians i know

  • played trumpet on this 8th grade honors! this was insane to play but i think we went faster then this

  • Hahaha i am playing this but on oboe and wow they go way faster then we do..

  • i played this on bassoon in 11th grade! super fun!

  • Faster....

  • were learning how to play this in 10th grade symphonic band, i plat clarinet. it sure is challengeing!

  • i just played this on trumpet in a concert yesterday! it was fantastic!

  • the youtube user "elevatorlover"

has this recomposed on a orgel

  • Go TENOR SAX!!

  • The Tambourin...:) ist to slowly first:D!!!

But... all in all it was good.

A bit faster... than its better:)

  • I just played this today for a concert at a summer music camp at my favorite college. (Ok, everyone gets that everyone else has played this faster; no need to be redundant).

Where were the euphonium/baritone players? I remember busting my chops most of the week trying to hit the high G, A flat, and A natural and the beginning of the song. Did that section take it down an octive?

  • Also, the articulation could have been cleaner at Letter F.

And they "Hey!" at the end instead of the stinger was adoreable ^-^

  • Dixie Band Camp???

  • No. UGA Summer Music Camp. :3

(and since I love their school of music so much!)

"Once a Redcoat, always a Redcoat--and how sweet it is!"

  • wonderful ! Love it. I play it in my saxophone quartet, but it is good with whole band too. But, like the other comment are saying: FASTER, FASTER, FASTER!!!!!

  • I played this in this year's honour band. super fun times. we played it a lot faster tho. i think it needs to be done faster than this.

  • we just got this piece to sightread in band... fun times.

it's been stuck in my head all day.

  • super slow...not really giving Shostakovich what he probably wanted.

  • this song is great.... i just played this song on feb 21 2009 for the phoenix's regional highschool band.... we took it way faster though.... i mean way faster

  • ya'll sound real good.

    love the picture you have.

    and the 'hey' was cute.

  • we're going to play this for our spring concert (much faster of course) and it's so much fun! the "hey!" at the end is cute. sounded good all around!

  • Haha, thanks! ^_^ It's a cool piece!

  • I actually performed this piece in Carnegie Hall years ago (with just a stinger on the end....no "HEY"). Thanks for posting. I enjoyed hearing this again.

  • I remember playing this song my Junior year at Big Rapids High School, MI. And we went faster then that and sounded just as good, if not better.

  • Yea yea, well I'm not the conducter and this was after playing a 6 min piece, a 4 min piece, and a crazy ass fast 2 min piece so all of us where tired. At least it didn't suck horribly ya know? Thanks for he comment though. Oh, and it sounded better in real life. The recordings crap.

  • apparently his conductor found it necessary to change the tempo of the song.

don't know how that would make it sound any better.

    he's a douche.
