  • Just shut up and throw the dam knife dude.

  • I have a question for all yall you have this knife... would this work as an all purpose knife? mostly cuttin up food and maybe a backup huntin knife.

i know its a "throwin" knife but hell, for under 20 bucks, its hard to say no... any input would be nice, what do yall think? only thing i can think bad about it is the paracord being dirty and becomin unhealtht, or does it wash easily?

  • @mg9895

It can be used for any cutting task. But it's not ideal for some things because of its shape, which is unconventional, and because of its thickness.

  • They say it is difficult to shoot a man. With a gun you shoot to kill but you do not throw the knife to kill so that makes it easier.

  • would you say that the paracord wrapped handle is better than a rubber or wooden handle when it comes to regular knife use, not throwin?

  • im actually gonna use this knife for survival

if you think about it, this knife can be the ultimate survival knife

  • i love knifes and think them awsomer then guns but unless you get a direct hit in the jugular of a gunman by suprise the only thing that makes it better then a silenced pistol is that it has less noise

  • hey dude could u make a vid on how to throw the true flight thrower cuz yaaa.. i got one but not totally sure how to throw it... its not like the kunais and other throwing knives i have

  • @tallswede80 Ralph Thorn is a combat knife throwing expert, he throws his knives spear style, or quarter spin or whatever someone wants to call it.

And yes, tomahawktree is an incredible thrower, and I guarantee against the right person at 20 feet he could hit them before they hit him, but I'm willing to bet at least a couple rounds are getting squeezed out before that knife hits them, and that is the inherent problem. The reality is any good shooter would be able to draw and shoot before he e

  • @imaferretmaster

You're right of course, but it's the most beautiful thing to have in your bag of tricks as an alternative, haha. Just imagine losing a gunfight because a knife slammed into your face. That would be the shock of a lifetime.

  • @imaferretmaster Soviet doctrine calls for knife throwing for silent disposal of enemies in CQB

  • Learning how to handle and throw a knife is an invaluable skill, but you're delusional if you think you could beat a gunmen that way.

I mean you could, but you could also survive a plane crash or a head on collision at 60moh...it's just not bloody likely.

  • @imaferretmaster

But how many people expect you to throw a knife? They would expect you to try to get close, right?

I don't know who Thorn is, but tomahawktree has a demonstration of how fast a knife can be drawn and thrown.

  • @imaferretmaster a person with a bladed weapon is a lethal threat within 31 feet, and thats as a physical threatand not using the knife at a distance. On average it takes a person 2 seconds to sprint 20 feet AND strike. It takes around 1.5 seconds to draw a pistol and fire a shot. That gives me a .5 second edge on a guy with a knife whos RUNNING at me. I have no doubt that a skilled knife thrower could get an accurate hit before a skilled concealed carrier in the right situation

  • @FredrickVonWinkle457 well I do, I'm a big knife collector and thrower, I'm also a trained shooter, so I'm well aware of the pros and cons of each. Sure guns jam, but not if it's a revolver, and at 10 feet Bob Munden would shoot Ralph Thorn before he could throw the knife, twice. While I realize Munden is a rare quick draw case, Thorn is a rare knife throwing case, so the best shooter beats the best knife thrower.

  • Silly qustion. but would you say that it would make a good camping / hunting knife ? & do think that it could hanndle the abuse ?

  • "knives go faster than bullets" Jason Statham

  • @vnninjas not even close, bullets travel at speeds around 2000 mi/h, knives at max probably 100 mi/h

  • @lucpus26 I don't know about you, but take a gun, pull it back, aim, then fire takes longer than throwing a knife does. If you have a knife on the side of your chest, it's easier to grab than grabbing a handle of a gun. Then, (not me), but some people have grown instinctively to throw a knife perfectly. They measure distance with their eyes, and aims with precision. In my opinion, I choose the knife above all things. But it also depends on scenario.

  • nice but where is the balence point of the knife?

  • I must say that this knife does seem like a good one to get because of how it do the work of any other knife that size and still have the advantage of being able to throw it accuratly like any other throwing knife

  • cold steel makes quality steel but it is affordable to

  • weight weight weight weight weight thats all i heard.. should of named this video ima talk about the weight of cold steel true flight thrower knives.. blah blah

  • thanks i just order 2 for 17.95 each

  • does it have an edge?

  • @ChishioAme Again, knives are for short range, and guns are for longer range. At 10 feet you most likely could not draw a knife and stab your opponent before they drew their gun and shot you. Obviously disarming is possible at a close enough range but again, that's personal skill which you can't account for.

And how exactly are guns very limited in warfare? They've been the primary weapon of all soldiers since they were invented.

  • Well you're comparing apples and oranges, a knife is a close combat weapon, gun is for longer ranges. While you may prefer to have a knife to a gun, if you fought someone with a gun you would lose well over 90% of the time, that's just life. However there is the unaccountability of personal skill or lack there of, so if say jack dagger had to hit a blind man with a gun before he got shot, he could probably do it, however it's very rarely going to turn out well.

  • @imaferretmaster How long does it take to draw a knife and stab someone? How long does it take to draw a gun, take aim, and pull the trigger? Unless they already have the gun out, you're going to be faster with a knife. If they already have the gun out, hand to hand combat comes into play, particularly in the area of disarms specifically designed for guns. As a weapon, the gun is extremely limited outside of warfare and even then it's very limited.

  • I have flat out abused this knife... Less so the chord handle, thankfully its intact (But that is its weak link). Its great when it comes to wear and tear. Its easy to repair and easy to sharpen. Look for another sheath for it though, its kinda weak.

  • Yep.

  • That's my next survival blade. I'm gonna re-wrap with different sizes of cord & drill 2 holes in it so I can put it on a handle.

Hatchet, wood splitter, spear, skinner, thrower, cordage storage? What else?

  • Yep

  • I'm pretty sure one could use a throwing knife in a battle, the only question would be why? Most country's special ops groups are trained in many styles of knife combat including throwing. Obviously it's not as effective as a gun by any stretch of the imagination, but I suppose there are situations in which one may need to use this tactic. With that being said obviously the majority of people, throwing enthusiasts or not, could not and most likely would not try to throw a knife in a self defens

  • @imaferretmaster

Throwing knives are quiet, and there is no shoot through.

  • @tallswede80 a man that screams after getting a knife thrown at them is pretty loud.

  • @darkinertia2 get em in the throat or in there stinky lil dome hahaha should be a pretty quick n quiet death then,, right?? but of course its gonna be loud if you hit them in the body or the leg or arm or somewhere else... just hit em in the vagina lol

  • @DaLukaXD you have a point there haha

  • @darkinertia2 not if you hit them in the throat

  • @tallswede80 but i doubt a single throw can shut enemies face so he wont scream. i think throwing would be handy as emergency defense against fire-armed enemy.

  • @imaferretmaster if you throw a knife your opponent will open their guard for a killing slash or stab from another knife, it is why throwing stars were so popular in japan, they distract the opponent for a more powerful attact

  • @imaferretmaster a knife is actually a vary worthy weapon in combat. I would personally prefer a knife to a gun. Guns have limited capability, including a clip, possible gun jamming, fear, and needing perfect accuricy. Where as a knife, can be used in close combat and long distance style. Its silent and dosent require reloading, not to mention the accuricy of a blade is vary nice, where as a gun can vary in many forms such as hands shaking or fast movements.

  • @imaferretmaster guns jam and rounds miss fire,at worst the blade breaks then youll have a shorter blade to slash with

  • @sinrik77 How do u know someone wont shoot you in the face when you retrieve it or draw another.

  • @ZkDeV cause i dont throw my knife unless i have a second or third one handy, and then to retort i say by the time they relize their freind or buddy aint breathing, i have his gun. but if i get shot then i get shot. i cant stop a bullet. i have been shot and survived and i still trust my life more to a knife than a gun

  • @imaferretmaster you would if you had skill, and several knives... like me...

  • You're retarded. I notice none of your knives have wear marks. Also, have you ever thrown a knife at someone? no.

  • @YukonOutdoors

What makes you think you've seen all of my knives? So what makes you think that none of them have wear marks.

Is it down's syndrome, or lead poisoning?

  • If you want to get good at throwing by the Pro Flight... A benchmark throwing knife should be about 14-15 inches long, and weigh approximately one ounce per inch... The shape of the pro flight is taken directly from the throwing knives once made by Harry McEvoy... I bought a set of Harry's knives back in 1990 and they threw excellent.... the Pro Flight should do just as well..

  • im just saying itd probly be better if you didnt throw it just hold it if you are useing it for self defense throwing is more of a hobby type thing

  • how much did they cost you?

  • @fearyoucant4get

Was over a year ago, but if I had to guess, I'd say 10-15. That's what most of the machetes and cheap things cost if you bought them from a distributor a year ago.

  • can you throw ?

  • @cyberjackcyberjack anyone can throw with these knives, seriously. they are awesome! i musta thrown mine over 1,000 times and its going strong.

  • nice knifes, but man you need to get your text ready before you start recording (was kind of hard to keep watching because of all the "Ahms")

  • where did u get these at?

  • @x14Epiphany14x

From some internet distributor. Google shopping works to find the lowest price, although I have always enjoyed Manventureoutpost com, and not just because I like the name.

  • @x14Epiphany14x .. Kennesaw.com ..

  • good video

remember there will always be people who don`t want to learn, they just want to talk out of their ass.

    keep up the good work

  • @tomahawktree

Haha, yes you're right about that. Thanks for the comment.

  • the semi sharpened edge is called a swedge.

  • Did Lynn ever reply back to your letter?

  • @SleepingWolf26

Yes, he did reply. He took care of it.

  • Hey Tallswede, I've been watching your vids for a while now, and I have a couple questions. For use in an outdoor scenario, would the true flight thrower work? I don't mean just in a pinch but would it be a good medium sized camp / backpacking knife?

Also, do you have any other of cold steels throwers? Just wondering what you think of those, compared to the true flight, and if they could accomplish the same type of tasks as just a knife that the true flight could.

    Thanks, Keep the vids coming

  • Price?

  • @5kilz 30-50 depends where you get it.

  • @5kilz 20$

  • i ordered this 2 days ago, cant w8 till i practice my ass off with that

  • @gh4pwner i got mine 3 days ago, never threw before i had it, and i can already throw from over 10 feet with the "no spin" technique

  • can you tell me how to do the no spin technique

  • All talk. Lets see you throw it!

  • is it only for the hammer grip technique

    or also for pinch grip?

  • probally either way

  • Rubbish! If a home invasion happens and like me sleep on the 3rd floor were am I going to go? If someone invades my master bed room on that floor I'm in a corner. Any weapon I use is lagit! Weather it's my S&W,War Hammer,or any kind of knife. Every sit is differnt. Please don't pigion hole!

  • s&w sucks

  • @SatanicBongRipper

if they suck, go pick a fight with a guy who has a smith and wesson 1911

i guarantee you wont last too long

  • Thanks for the review. Having said that, I agree with m415mike. The chances of a successful knife throw in an uncontrolled situation is literally the flip of a coin.

In addition, you would not be able to justify the case of "Self Defense" to any jury because throwing a knife from any sort of distance implies you had an opportunity to egress/escape/run away from the situation.

Using deadly force in a situation where you could run away will not reflect favorably in civil or criminal court.

  • i have never heard of anyone ever using a throwing knife in self defence

  • Nice review man, i just ordered one myself, from my country and i paid 35euros for it!(u said 20 bucks), a little tip though, try writing the things u say in ur review, otherwise you'll keep on saying: "um, um" as you did in this vid.:)

  • I wouldn't call it a throwing weapon. Throwing knives are for sport. Even the best throwers in the world wouldn't use them as a weapon in a real dangerous situation.

  • Thumb down, eh? Go ahead, use a throwing knife to defend yourself. All it does is arm your attacker and make him mad. It's pretty much a toss up in that situation anyway, pressure, distant, and time would greatly affect your throw.

  • If you threw it, then yes, you might be right. But just because you can't throw a knife doesn't mean other people can't. Not everyone is as lame as you are.

  • That's because you can throw with prefect accuracy every single time, no matter what distance, how much time you have, and whatever the situation, and can hurt an attacker enough so they'll leave you alone now that you're unarmed, right?. If so, then you're better than the best throwers in the world. If not, you are a dumbass risking your own life. Ask a true master of the art or anyone with some common sense, it's just not a good idea, and you are simply ignorant to think so.

  • Look at tomahawktree's videos if you want to see a thrower who can throw a knife to defend himself.

  • Too bad that's from a distance he knows, has practiced with, and has perfected the throw with. If he's being attacked, the bad guy is not going to be that exact distance away, standing still, or giving him time to get ready. Not to mention, any knife big enough to inflict enough harm upon the throw, assuming you manage a hit, is too big to carry legally, and you go to jail. I can almost guarantee you that TT would miss the throws a lot if he were taken by surprise and the target ran at him.

  • You can almost guarantee it, huh? Haha, I think you have no idea what you're talking about.

  • It's obvious I have more common sense than you. At least I know that knife throwing ability is severly hindered under anything but completely controlled circumstances. At least I wouldn't risk giving my opponent my weapon in a life or death situation. At least I know that even if you did hit your target, it wouldn't be sufficient to stop many attackers, such as someone influenced by drugs or extreme anger or with a mental problem. At least I know I'd go to jail. You sir, are an idiot.

  • m415mike, it seems like you're the only one here with any common sense.

    also, FUCK COLD STEAL!!!!!

  • yea you would miss if you are shitty at trowing knives in a spin throw ya it is realy inafective becase you have to mesure distance with each throw.ecept the no spin throw it is frightingly effective you dont have to messure distance this style of trowing is for combat if you practice enough you can get it to stick every time look up ralph thorn knife throw i am sure you will be suprised.

  • I would normally agree with you, but check out this guy named Ralph Thorn. I think there are some throwing styles that can be combat effective. That being said, no thrower should throw their last or only knife.

  • I would, if I was very very good.

  • This knife's steel is 1055 high carbon steel. In my experience it is semi-difficult but not really hard to sharpen. It does hold a razor edge for awhile and is overall a really good steel. Check out my review of it at my channel.

  • I've bought this knife but his steel sucks... is made in china

  • how much do these cost?

  • 29.99 in Canada at Warriors and Wonders

Base your price on that shouldnt be above 40

  • u got a hardon over a knife... i'd hate to invite you to dinner

  • You'd hate to invite me to dinner? Then don't do it, moron.

  • i get hard a hard on over a knife..jesus...i'd invite tallswede80 to dinner anytime to discuss knifes and weapons anyday.

  • I like their survival knives, but this seems like another fail to me. You don't need a heavy knife for throwing. Although not allowed in netherlands, i do have one but i don't carry it around. But having it alone is not allowed already so :) Mine is very light, it has a hollow blade and handle for a bit (not too much) less weight and more airodynamics. If i throw that thing with a good swing, it flies so fast the whole blade get's stuck until it reaches the handle, wich is really stuck.

  • haha, "another fail"? Your statement sounds like "another fail".

There's always a balance between too heavy and too light. The term "Heavy" is relative. This knife has the perfect weight: not too light, not too heavy. But, according to the laws of physics, using a heavier knife tends to hit with more force.

  • Ya tell me about physics.. Whatever weight the knife is, i can see it has a 'bad' design for it's purpose. But i'm not suprised, because in their advertising they throw with machettes and axes too.

  • Don't really get what you're trying to say. At first you complained about the weight but then when Tallswede told you why the weight is good you changed your argument. You're not saying what's "bad" about it...anyways, nice vid Tall

  • Thanks, man, and thanks for the comment.

  • No in the video he says it's heavy. And i tried to say what's bad about it, i think it's the design mainly. I'm not going to argue about it, be happy with the knife.

  • i put about 3 generic brand (got them at a pawn shop and the package said *throwing knives* XD no brand name so generic? anyway ive got those 3 down my boot wich has a steel toe AND ive still got a 3 inch folder in my pocket XD

  • I have the same knife, but when it came in it smelled like moath balls ?!?!?!?! wtf

  • 9.7 oz. i believe.

    they have heavier ones too.

  • this look's like it would make a nice survival knife!

  • Yes sir, good point.

    It's a strong, sharp knife.

  • just bieng helpful not a smart ass its called the tang not the spine

  • No, you're not being helpful because what you said is not true.

  • yeah, and hay, if you need rope, you got some !

  • its not the spine of the knife thats why when a kinfe such as this one that you own is made of one piece of steel they call it full tang

  • Yes, I think you're right.

  • I got a couple of throwers too...check out Micah Posada (tomahawktree) in the related videos.. He's the only Coldsteel sponsored knife/axe/anything with an edge thrower that I know of. He wins a lot of competitions...OSU!!!(KARATE EXPRESSION)

  • Tomahawktree amazes me with his skill. With skill like that you don't need a gun.

  • these are the best throwing knives period especially when you ditch the worthless paracord handle wrap durable heavy and accurate i love em

  • i bought two of these as well... and the SRK

both are excellent. together with my KM2K i am now perfectly equipped for....

    cutting onions i guess :/

  • Like borat would say, very nize!

  • I bought a true flight thrower and its an awesome thrower but have you noticed any small dents on the blade? I have, it must have been when it fell on the ground but its still fine cause it cuts pretty well but if you can tell me any way to sharpen it that would be great

  • I use the triangle sharpener by spyderco, but any sharpening stone will work. You can get them at a hardware store for under 10 dollars. Just hold the blade at an angle to the stone, and the push the edge across it like you're trying to cut a layer off of it. That's the basic technique for sharpening.

  • thanks

  • How do you have so many Cold Steel products? Are you a dealer? distributor? or a collector with lot of money?

  • I am a collector.
