The racing back then was great because the draft was everything even on the intermediate superspeedways. Not having restrictor plates didn't make the racing better - if anything if they'd had the plates in 1979 (they nearly mandated them during Speedweeks that year) those cars would have stayed on the ground far better than they did.
Great racing! Back when the drivers had to actually drive the damn car. Good to see stock cars actually racing without all that stupid downforce and COT bullshit. This is NASCAR!

This was the very first Winston Cup race I attended. I was 10 years old. And leehr777 why do you like to watch Smiley crash? It's a horrifying crash...not to mention the man died...probably instantly.
