Actually, I think Gilchrist should have been allowed to speak. Columbia University has a responsibility honor it's guest speakers by providing adequate security. Security was inadequate for this event. I think Gilchrist is probably a racist, and I don't like him. But he was invited by Columbia student Republicans, and the university chose to honor the students' request. Columbia University is ultimately to blame. The woman called Gilchrist a murderer and he doesn't respond? Wimp.

In a protest situation, maybe it makes sense to call and individual a murderer and racist if you believe that their beliefs lead to those things, but to say that directly to the face of that person is incredible poor judgment. Actually, I think Gilchrist should have been allowed to speak. Columbia University has a responsibility honor it's guest speakers by providing adequate security. Security was inadequate for this event. I think Gilchrist is probably a racist, and I don't like him. But he was invited by Columbia student Republicans, and the university chose to honor the students' request. Columbia University is ultimately to blame. As much as I dislike the minutemen's views, I've never seen or heard anything concrete about them that indicates that they've done anything illegal. I'm not a particular fan of this protest as it served more to prevent dialog than encourage it. Also it seems like a typical self important college student type thing to do. In my view immigration is a source of strength for the US and keeps us from withering away like the nations of Europe. The debate should be over the law not the minutemen.

I'm actually on the side of the founder of the minuteman in this situation. The student was talking as if she was at a rally. In a protest situation, maybe it makes sense to call and individual a murderer and racist if you believe that their beliefs lead to those things, but to say that directly to the face of that person is incredible poor judgment. It's not likely that there would have been reconciliation if he had not left, but at least there could be civil dialogue.

Minutemen and fencing closed off the safer routes into the country. People were forced instead into more dangerous crossing areas were thousands have died from dehydration and the elements. In addition there have been accusations of the armed Minutemen doing more than just illegally bullying people with their weapons, and if they had killed ten, a hundred families in the desert, who would know?

I am a proud liberal, but when we protest in such a way it makes us look like loonies! Free speech means free speach for all. I don't agree with this gentleman, by and large, but he reserved the hall to speak. If the other group wanted to protest it should have been done so in a simliar format. What if we invited someone we really liked to speak, like Chomsky, and conservatives jumped on stage? We would have called them rude and disrespectful.

These retard kids were not permitted to enter the stage and interrupted a speech that was to be given to the student body. This little girl accused this man of murder and should be held liable for this statement. She had no right to say what she did and had no right to go onto that stage. She also violated this mans civil rights by interrupting his address to the student body.
