While that is true I would say that Canada is a bit of an exception. First it's about the same size as the US with less population than California. Second, there are stats that indicate crime has infact risen over the years after the strictest of gun laws were passed. But mostly I'd point to my earlier statement that not all cultures will respond the same way to the same things. Australia passed outrageously strict gun laws much like Canada and violent crime skyrocketted.

I absolutely believe that gov't is way too big and that's the reason for most of the problems we face nowadays. Great questions. I wish I knew the answers. How do we combat the likes of Limbaugh and Beck. How do we allow logic and reason to establish itself? I wish I had the answer because it's an answer we desperately need. I fear for my country. I fear for my president. I can only hope that we prevail. I'll do all I can to see that our goals are met but our country has a bloody history and I worry that the worst is yet to come.
I'm not sure it's possible any more. The conservatives, the right and the religious right are too deeply entrenched in the US now. From my perspective the East and West coasts are both fairly progressive, but the heartland seems very conservative.
But to be honest I think this has been coming for a while. It's hard for those who wish things to stay the same to deal with those who want to keep moving forward. Something inevitably gives.
This is basically a battle between urban dwellers and rural people. Those that have been exposed to life in the more cosmopolitan areas as opposed to those that come from small, segregated towns that are isolated from the more progressive thinking city folk. While that is true I would say that Canada is a bit of an exception. First it's about the same size as the US with less population than California. Second, there are stats that indicate crime has infact risen over the years after the strictest of gun laws were passed. But mostly I'd point to my earlier statement that not all cultures will respond the same way to the same things. Australia passed outrageously strict gun laws much like Canada and violent crime skyrocketted.

Well since you asked, I'd say I'm a conservative but definitely not the religious-right republican kind. I absolutely believe that gov't is way too big and that's the reason for most of the problems we face nowadays. A quick YT search for "Woman charged for babysitting" is one small but great example of what I mean. But socially I am pretty liberal. Gays getting married is fine with me. Big government-run schools teaching gay lifestyles to kindergateners is not though.

Great questions. I wish I knew the answers. How do we combat the likes of Limbaugh and Beck. How do we allow logic and reason to establish itself? I wish I had the answer because it's an answer we desperately need. I fear for my country. I fear for my president. I can only hope that we prevail. I'll do all I can to see that our goals are met but our country has a bloody history and I worry that the worst is yet to come.

I'm not sure it's possible any more. The conservatives, the right and the religious right are too deeply entrenched in the US now. From my perspective the East and West coasts are both fairly progressive, but the heartland seems very conservative.
But to be honest I think this has been coming for a while. It's hard for those who wish things to stay the same to deal with those who want to keep moving forward. Something inevitably gives.

This is basically a battle between urban dwellers and rural people. Those that have been exposed to life in the more cosmopolitan areas as opposed to those that come from small, segregated towns that are isolated from the more progressive thinking city folk. It isn't exactly that simple but it is pretty close to the situation.

There are far more people in this country who want a public option than there are who need it, those people who already have their own health care but still support a universal plan are not "hopeless," they're concerned. Maybe you only make decisions based on how the outcome will affect you, with total disregard for others, but don't assume that everyone thinks like you.

Too bad you weren't there for the first 1 hour and 50 minutes when we sat there very quietly and listened to Bob Inglis lie to us. And there was no shouting. Ten people out of 400 were chosen to ask a question. We then sat there and listened to him lecture forever. At 8:50 he said he would take more question and he went back to the same perosn he had already called on. Well, he had been lying and not really answering and that's when things let loose. And I have never listened to talk radio.

I doubt I can get them all in. And I voted for him. I am a Republican. !. no end of life panels BUT you had better hire a lawyer and make out a very good "Living Will!" Hmm! You don't need a lawyer for a living will. Standard form is downloaded off the Internet or given to you by hospital, fill it out, sign if front of notary and have notarized. Period! Health reform will not cost us a cent. Under HR 45 Health Insurance Reform Bill there is a big VAT added to EVERYTHING!

People keep bringing up polio as an argument for vaccination. Most polio was in the U.S. was caused by the vaccine, according to the CDC. Not only that, but after the polio vaccine was created, they changed polio diagnosis to meningitis. Suddenly meningitis skyrocket and polio dissapeared - because they changed the definitions. Polio is a political landmine of conflicting definitions and supposed causes.
