This was one of those records that I didn't buy at the time but I wish that I had. Billy sounds good live - he could actually sing, the backing sounds a bit weak to me though. He had a famous sister but I can't remember who she is - well known in the UK that is. Billy J Kramer and Sandie Shaw were the only 2 pop singers that my father could stand listening to - funny how these things come back to you!

OK I know all about rose-tinted spectacles and selective memory, but wasn't this a fantastic time to be growing up in? Pop stars looked like pop stars and sang songs you could sing along to. I recall nothing but total optimism for the future. Britain ruled the world in pop-music, fashion and we even won the world cup! The soundtrack to all this was there - on the BBC, Luxembourg and the pirates. Where the xxxx did it all go wrong? The saddest thing is that we will never see it again.

I remember seeing Billy at the Sydney Entertainment Centre in 1995 as part of a "Best of British 60's" concert. He has certainly looked after himself.

cool man, it took me until I was 16 to find all of those, I'm 17 now :) But I think you're quite wrong about your last statement though, ofc I highly doubt anyone will ever top those old acts, I still think, for example, the mars volta, white stripes and wolfmother etc. are really great, today bands.

Hey, Terrafirma91, The Beatles did write did song for Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas. Anonther incredibly beautiful love ballad that still rings in my ears since 1964. All these Mersey sound love songs were so magical!

MyJellyJunglein1967: Amazing how many incredible compositions are attributed to Lennon-McCartney. I think they wrote better whilst together than after their split in '70. McCartney has always been a stellar musician, songwriter, and arranger. But, without Lennon's influence his lyrics leave much to be desired. His lyrics lack substance at times.

Maybe, but I think both Lennon and McCartney complemented each other very well. Paul more sentimental , John more experimental. But, both of them wrote silly, simple but incredibly beautiful love songs like this one. And that 's what made the Beatles so beautiful!

yeah....the band was playing too fast PLUS they started playing even before he got up to the mike. And yes, he was gorgeous...or in those days..dreamy! I saw him in Florida in 2007...a little overweight and he definitely has bad knees. Still love him, though.

ccording to john(playboy interview 1980) paul wrote completely "ii keep you satisfied" and "from the window", though mccartney said on his autobiography that both worked on it. john wrote "bad to me in spain not "from the window(mostly paul´s song).

There is a Beatles version. It sounds like an old demo like Bad To Me. John sings it, and it is slower than the Dakotas version.

And yes, the version there is better than this, it sounds like the Beatles, harmonies and all. what other songs are included on yours? anyone interested in lennon\mcartney songs try and get hold of the three 50 greatest beatles tunes, thats 150 in total printed about 1970 i had these, but lent them out and never got them back doooh!!! they show all the main instrument passages the trumpet part for penny lane for example ithink george martin had a hand in this but cant be sure lol

This clip has Robin McDonald playing the White telecaster. Ray Jones played bass. Later on Jones left, and Mick Green took over the guitar. Robin took over on the Fender Bass and did a fantastic job holding down the bottom.

Lennon and McCartney had an abundance of material. They had so many songs that they couldn't record them all! Plus the fact that Kramer & The Dakotas were part of the Brian Epstein stable, so naturally some songs went to them. Kramer's voice fit the songs given to him perfectly.
