You have a collapsed valve Lifter my friend. The reason it collapses when it gets warmed up is because the oil thins out and is unable to keep the valve lifter open. Imagine the lifter as a barrel placed within another barrel and a very close tolerance between each oil pressures causes the inside barrel to rise thus eliminating valve lash. When the tolerance/wear between the two barrels increases then the inside barrel the one in contact with the valve train push rod cant stay open.
@kapiteinpaulus No, ignorant, ill-informed people suck. Especially when they have no useable experience about something yet they knock it. As for the vid, put about a quart of ATF in the oil and run it for 50 or so miles then change the oil. If that doesn't cure it, look to injectors but test them before spending the cash to replace them.
Yeah i agree with superkovu, it has a injector either leaking or sticking, i have had the 6.2 and the 6.5 turbo diesel for many years and have ran into the same thing a number of times
sounds like a collapsed lifter, when cold thick oil keeps it pumped up. as it warms up oil gets pased the seals and the lifter collapses. makes a tapping noise
@goodman08 What you are hearing is a carbon knock, the egr needs removed, upper and lower plenum replaced off an f motor. The egr introduces carbon back into the intake tract, which builds up on the pistons and valves, thus the knocking sound, valve to piston contact via carbon.
I have a 1997 6.5 turbo and sometimes when i am sitting still in park or drive mine makes a noise like someone dropped bowling balls in the bed i had the trans serviced, put on a computer and check the torque converter , we can,t find nothing now i notice it is doing it when i also am coming to a stop or sitting at a red lite HELP !
heyy man im a specialist wen it comes to 6.5 diesels i got 1 my self and tht noise is just the way it is and if it was a valve u would here it really bad. text my cell for more info. check out my truck vids

Just scrap it, the 6.5 diesel sucks.

it is your injection pummp

That sounds like a rocker arm or valve to be honest. if it was a sticky injector it would run like ass
walkingfreak 4 months ago
definetly a sticky injector, with the amount of mileage they are probably all due for replacement

i hear a lifter knocking myself.

If you are talking about the rattle/clank-noise, like some glass-sound, I have the same,,, I would think it is a bad injector made this.....

@cadilacext It's just weird how it only does it when it warms up. Worries me a bit.

Has to be a valve, but does sound familiar though
