  • goes to show how stupid things are in America! It's a piece of rock! I think it was an awesome climb. Dean Potter's an ace in my book!

  • If you ever decide to wear a shirt while you climb, click on my name to go to our channel and check out our rappelling/rock climbing shirts--and the Vietnamese model we enlisted to show them off!

  • I didn't know Bear Grylls was a climber

  • I lived in moab, i don't know a damn person who considers the arch sacred?!. It''s super cool, and beautiful don't get me wrong, but calling it sacred makes it sound like some local indians pray to it or something....JOKE!

  • Great video!

  • U go boy

  • i love climbing ive learned alot about climbing because of u im only a v3/v4 but your vids teach me alot

  • climb whatever u want Dean

  • This pisses off so much..... Fuck the government .... I love you dean and what Ur message is , keep climbing :)

  • I don't get why he was talking about ropes, he doesn't have ropes here. And yeah as much as I like Dean Potter I think this was sort of for publicity, it was strictly forbidden to climb it, and I think the public was afraid that immitators will now follow.

  • Perhaps on day Mr Potter will grow and begin understand why people are upset with him. Maybe he will learn to enjoy rock climbing, difficult problems and first accents without bragging or self promotion. Whether or not he feels it's a sacred spot is not up to him or me, but to those that feel it'd sacred. There were people here before us and here that feel it sacred and that's all that matters. It's not just a rock. Dean is just a man and not as important as he thinks he is.

  • yeah, utah also wanted to tax caffeine

  • F-Utah!!

  • @premo42 It's not Utah, Utah's one of the best places to live I think because there's everything cool here! Rock Climbing, BASE Jumping, Skydiving, Slacklining, Kayaking, World Class Skiing, Mountain Biking, list goes on. The people here (especially in Utah valley, most concentrated population of Mormons in the world) are pretty uptight about everything and you just can't really do anything about it but stay out of the way haha! Way to go Dean!

  • Damn due hate for climbing a rock. Pinners are jealous of your skills bro.

  • I own the footage of the moon passing through the arch and the shadow of the arch. Would be nice have been asked for usage. And recognition. Thanks.

  • @petroscans

Do a google search for Two Easy Steps for Using the DMCA Takedown Notice to Battle Copyright Infringement. Good luck. Apparently Dean thinks it's okay to walk on everyone and everything.

  • For the people who say that climbing the arch hurts nothing... Sandstone is very easily eroded. You can easily damage it by simply climbing over it. It not like granite or marble. There are reasons they don't want you messing around with it.

  • The Delicate Arch has weathered Mother Nature's harshest elements for thousands of years. Deans impact is miniscule. Besides, is the human not a part of nature? If drills had been used, it would be a different story, but as a lone man climbing, he is as natural as the wind and rain which carved the rock in the first place. Climb on Dean.

  • @GrowlsofTerror

Except he climbed it 7 times with a camera man, filmed it, bragged, and showed it to thousands who now want to climb it.

There are certain things you just LOOK at. I'm not saying it is sacred. It IS uniquely special. I've seen photos my whole life and it still surprised me. You hike to it, you walk around a blind corner and there it is, right in your face, perched on a sandstone bowl, with a sheer dropoff and 13,000 foot mountains behind it.

    Look but don't touch.

  • "Dean" and "Douchebag" both begin with "D"...coincidence? I. Think. Not.

  • @InnerSpaceTravel1 fucktard

  • @gypsymagicalltheway just coincidence

  • @gypsymagicalltheway

Wow. Did you stay up all night thinking that up, Einstein?

So you're impressed with Dean "Media Whore" Potter, eh?

A piece of advice: use "Dean-a-mite", it's more effective at damage than "dinamite", whatever that is.

"Hey, I know...let's do it BECAUSE WE CAN."

    Let me spell it out for you: D O U C H E B A G.

This is the part where you come back with, "It's JUST a rock".

And I say, "So is your head".

You're welcome. Go back to sleep now, dolt.

  • i wonder how they'll react to a stick of dinamite on the delicate arch....BOOOM!!!

  • LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOL

  • patfromlogan, dean lives in utah, and he would kick your butt in a fight

  • How could his rope have put cuts into the sandstone? It looks like he's not using a rope at all

  • Fuck Dean for climbing this. He ever comes to Utah again... I'm a grumpy old black belt and his big nose looks like a good target.

  • For those of you wondering about the rope, he climbed the arch about 7 times (which explains the video from the top). He wasn't the only one up there either, obviously. Downclimbing from the top of that isn't an option (all climbers know this). He obviously rappelled, and the marks in the rock are obviously from a rope - I've seen those exact same marks in sandstone from climbing rope. That said, it's not a huge deal but he did leave his mark and he should've taken responsibility for that.

  • @rockclimbingrules Shut your mouth you dumb idiot if he climbes more of those innocent natural formations he will get arrested and he might change the look and view of these wonderful sights. The government was right it SHOULD be illegal he could break a fragile one like DELICATE arch do u no what DELICATE means it means fragile Idiot

  • @cocomusho wow you have no life fatty if u go to that arch YOU will regret that. I have been there in summer so it's 102 degrees and it was hard to hike there in that time but you have no courage to go there

  • I don't see any rope? Besides, if it was a publicity stunt, would he be dropped by his main sponsor, uh, no.

  • Stupid government and the people who criticized him

  • Isn't just like the U.S. Government now making up the laws as they go.

  • If the rock was so soft that ROPE could erode it that badly from one climb, the rock would have snapped off in his hands and he wouldn't have been able to climb. Also the wind and elements would have eroded the arch to dust ages ago if it was so susceptible to wear.

  • Let's all go over and free climb Dean's house. What could it hurt?

  • In my opinion, I think Delicate Arch is overrated. Devils Garden as a whole is much more impressive than ONE arch.

  • Why did he climb this sacred rock. what a loser and asshole.

  • Have the climbers ever buit roads into yosemite? Do climbers polute the air with tour buses? Did climbers want to plow over camp 4 to build dormatories? Did climbers carve fkn obnoxious faces into Mt rushmore? Did climbers ever want anything more than to just be in nature, in tune with the rock and left the fk alone?

Dean buddy; Don't listen to these ignorants. Keep pushing the bounderies bro! Reach for YOUR stars and fk the people who try to keep you down bro!!

  • Climbers have caused huge, irreparable damage all over the place. Certain places are dedicated to climbing and certain places aren't it is that simple. Because you think its ok to do whatever you want because you enjoy it ... doesn't make it ok. This belongs to everyone not just climbers. Allowing people to climb on it WILL do damage to it over time, end of story. Idiots like you make all climbers look bad. Read a book sometime, educate yourself before you call others ignorant ... bro.

  • @THELORDOFEXCESS It is not illegal to climb it. His intentions weren't even bad. And why can't we climb rocks if companies and the goverment place concrete ontop of nearly everything. If the goverment arrested him for destroying something than that is pure irony.

  • lol its a sacred rock rite? well hes climbed it without fucking ropes, he left it the way he found it lmao

  • his ropes (which they don't show in the video) cut grooves in a national treasure.

  • HOW THE HELL COULD HE HAVE LEFT GROOVES BY CLIMBING A ROCK??

  • This is the part of the documentary when everyone says, "seriously???"

  • if i were him i would say was it sacred when the government carved faces on the locals mountain? its not there land, its not your land. its a public park. so you can fuck yourself.

  • So there's a law as to what you can climb, even if it isn't private property?

    This complicates things a bit.

  • I'm a climber.... Dean totally fucked a lot of shit up doing this climb. Three days after he climbed the arch, new climbing regulations were initiated in the national parks in Utah - no new bolts, no new anchors, no new anything.

I wanna climb the arch, apparently the rating comes in at around .11+, but I won't. Like all other humans, we are capable of not doing certain things when we know it might cause problems.

Just my respectful opinion. Love Dean Potter regardless.

  • Good grief! He climbed the Delicate Arch delicately without carving stairs or hammering pitons into it. It looks the same now as it did before. He should receive admiration, not censure.

  • OMG, how could he hurt that poor rock?

What did that rock ever do to you, you evil man!

Ever since you climbed that rock our economy has gone down hill, therefore you're responsible for our economic troubles.

The climbing of that sacred rock caused a split in our space-time continuum, allowing the time traveler, Osama Bin Laden, to go back in time to commit the 9/11 attacks. Therefore, you're responsible for the worst attack in U.S. history!

Throw that evil rock climbing terrorist in jail!

  • @HuckMeHard oh god go cry a river for the rock.

  • @HuckMeHard fuck you

  • @mrzjdb

Look up the word 'Satire" in a dictionary!

  • They get mad because it is sacred to the local community, yet how much land do they plow away for their damn malls

  • Straw man argument there. How would people react if someone decided to add some paint to the Mona Lisa? Even if this guy didn't do a single bit of damage if everyone was allowed to climb it wouldn't be long before we knock it down. There are endless places to climb for people, endless less sensitive yet just as challenging places. We need to preserve some places as they are don't we? Because we have plenty of malls and plenty of climbing parks can't we have pristine places too?

  • imagine the fun ol dan osman couldve had with this arch.

  • haha wats the good of a cool rock formation if u cant climb it. i guess we could just get fat looking at it then die yeah that would be awsome. rock on dean your one of my favourate climbers keep up the good work.

  • at least this video ends on a positive note =/

  • He loks like Ibrahimovic

  • Anyone got dynamite? I feel like blowing that shit up and see how they would react, guess the whole state would rupture to.

  • @cocomusho That's a great idea. Let's blow up the whole rock just to see their reaction.

  • man what rope? O.o

  • come on - if everybody starts climbing the rock get damaged. If there is a law agaist it - then dont freaking do it!!!!!!!!

  • Damn Vandal is what he is.

  • this rock formation happened because of erosion and will be destroyed by it aswell but long after our life time and the life time ofmany generations

  • @fastballonly I agree. If they put a mall around it or something, i'd be pissed, but climbing? WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT DO DO IT?! Just leaves a few footprints, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THAT?!

  • @fastballonly I live in Utah (love it here, best place to be unless you're not a mormon, then you're a minority smaller than anything else) but I have no idea why someone would get mad at Dean for climbing that! I take his side on this one because nothing wrong was done, actually I think it's pretty amazing haha!

  • @Rinocerente Agreed. Dean accomplished an amazing feat. As for Utah, it is a little more civilized place, I like to think. I certainly hope that the evil teachings of Joseph Smith does not live on, like incestuous forced marriage and all that stuff. I am pretty sure they are not a racist organization anymore, knowing their opportunistic tendencies.

Anyway, a mere climbing of a rock should not be condemned.

  • Keep on going Dean. You are an inspiration. Brave climbing!

  • Awesome climb man, delicates my ass what about all the land republicans have already destroyed? Thats just a push over dude is a badass climber and if I could climb like that I would go there and climb that and pee off the top.

  • So what's it go at?

  • Umm what rope are we talking about here?

  • I have big respect for Dean, but every climber knows Delicate is off-limits. Every time he raps he leaves rope marks (he did this ascent 6 times). It encourages other climbers to do the same. The mark he left might be small, but the mark of 2000 climbers would be drastic.

As a climber, I would never climb Delicate. There are some places where our ropes and chalk don't belong, just as there are some places that our OFVs, our plastic wrappers, and our houses don't belong.

    He should apologize.

  • And who filmed him from the top??

He was on the top not alone..

  • Comment removed

  • @LomLom333

    Whos helmet? Look at 0:27, 0:37, 0:40.

He has climbed it 6 times for the prof movie. This is the reason I do not like it.

And it changed my meaning about him.

  • @jirina You are right. I thought you were referring to 0:47. I guess I didn't watch this closely enough. My apologies.

  • anyone else realise theres no 1:44

  • stop claiming the NPS laws.. obviously you are acquitted by the legal wording of the law at the time, but there were unspoken laws that you broke. I would think you hold those laws more sacred more than the bureaucratic ones. Unless you just want to spit in the face of all unspoken laws, which you can do.. but that's not the card you are playing.

  • Comment removed

  • this guy obviously did it publicity... his talk is all bullshit.. now I look at him differently... as do many others.. too bad

  • only in Utah do people get angry at you for climbing rocks that dont belong to them...

  • what an extremely selfish act this was. disgusting

  • How the hell does climbing destroy this thing. Amercians are retarded. Dynamite destroys rock, not hands and feet.

  • what can I say...its utah. its full of mormons. enough said.

  • good on dean. he did what the fat americans couldnt do and sacred? what a load of bullshit! its a lump of sandy rocky shit shaped as a donut for fuck sake.

  • THIS IS NOT FAIR.

    stupid sponsors dropped him?? RETARDS!!!

    DEAN IS THE MAN!!!!

  • fuuk utah beautiful state with ugly people in it..inside and out

  • @whiteriot5202 Seriously? You've obviously never been to Utah - I'm not even from here, so this isn't a biased statement. Not to mention there isn't even one Utahn in this video. Less than 50% (and dropping) of the residents are even Mormons... another generalization.

  • fuk utah..beautiful state and ugly people inside and out

  • i swear he solo climbs it, the video even shows him soloing it, so wtf is the rope groove shizzle all about???

  • @55richardmorris getting back down

  • @55richardmorris well he used a rope to rappel down, and his camera guys used one to get up. But I think all this shit is ridiculous. he has more than paid for that. dean's a boss

  • It's interesting how the most of the climbing-community does NOT condone this. Non-climbers do, which the highest rated comments, suggest. No respect.

  • wtf!

  • Gee... who were the 'local community' who were so up in arms about it?

    Let me guess.

    NON-WHITES.

As usual - trying to exercise their undeserved POWER over 'whitey'...

  • @packoftwenty lol

  • Dean Potter is an inspiration to everyone. He has the courage to reach for his dreams and he respects nature more than most people. I wish Mr. Potter great joss on his journey through life!

  • Good job Dean Potter

  • fucking media cunts, will moan about everything, just brewing up shit storms because they have nothing better to report about, and the brainless drooling morons who watch them love an easy target to get pissed off at without engaging their tiny brains.

  • rofl

keep it up america, "land of the free"

  • We can't lock up convicted terrorist but they want to lock up this guy? As least he's not sitting around on his fat ass like the rest of America.

  • What a pathetic world we live in when people make such a deal over something like this.

  • This amazing structure was created by 100's of millions of years of erosion, temperature extremes, Sand storms, pounding rain and wind, and this fuck-ass is climbing it. WTF? Have some respect for our geological treasures. I can't stand this sense of entitlement this younger generation has. Photograph it, DON'T TOUCH IT!

I will be doing just that in less than two weeks.

  • @chopperdoc lifes not about about taking pictures, its about doing what you want to do. he wants to climb it. so go fuck yourself. who are you to tell him what rock he can and can't climb

  • @chopperdoc shut up.

  • @chopperdoc

I completely agree with you. He's a Yahoo that doesn't understand that sandstone is "delicate" and it certainly is a treasure. It bothers me that the Hoodoos near Calgary Alberta(Drumheller area) are trampled on when signage states clearly to stay off the immediate area around the Hoodoos and on the Hoodoos themselves. Also, saw wrecklessness at Ancestral Pueblo sites and throughout Arches. Wish people would have the human decency to stay on trails exclusively in Arches.

  • WOW.......serious business. I feel bad for this guy...

  • fuck the law!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • those greedy scumbags from Patagonia dropped Dean as their climbing ambassador for doing what he supposed to be doing .....climbing.

Boycott Patagonia (also known as Patagucci)

  • jesus. cant ppl appreciate this?? he did something cool on something cool. how can any1 possibly b offended??

  • Wait What Rope?????

  • @joeregal thats what I was thinking. I can't see one

  • I think the entire earth is sacred.

You don't see me writing angry letter to Nasa for burning fossil fuels.

  • That is ridicolous of people to go after him i admire him for what he did

  • Unbelievable stupidity no wonder it is the very same country that very strongly believe in the story about xenu.

  • what a pussy

  • tak toto je iny "level".. sialenec alebo genius.. tazko povedat.... ale je to kraaasne

  • He had a camera to inspire people to do what has not been done. He is a true legend and could care less about the publicity.

  • He's kinda hot!

  • i thought he soloed it?? wtf ropes were probally there to set up camera...

he definatly should not have brought a fkn media crew with him..very annoyed that he brought a camera with him.. soloing is the ultimate SOLO pursuit, bringing camera makes it seem like it was a publicity stunt.

i love the dude and the only repecussions from this is increased climbing restrictions in the area which sux. and yer im sure if i was a redskin i wouldnt be happy

  • @nyrbsamoht Downclimbing the route that he soloed would have been impossible. He had to rappel off using a rope. Still, if you know what you're doing, which Dean certainly does, the rope isn't going to slide over the rock when your rappelling. I'm sure the grooves were made by some other fuckwits who didn't know how to rappel and probably lowered off instead, dragging the rope behind them.

  • @paleolithicera

yer i guess ur rite, it looks pretty trickey. and yer im sure loads of other people have climbed it, they just didnt have a media circus with them!

from rock to alpine, soloing is an individual pursuit (..in my opinion) and having media fan fare just belittles it and turns it into somthing its not (for example Tomaz Humar and his supporters and detractors)

however I am very greatful to hear about these epic feats, which if it wasnt for people like dean, we wouldnt hear about

  • cmon its just a rock.

  • its a fucking rock who cares

  • Comment removed

  • Well to many Native Americans they view things as sacred, and they got pissed off because to them he was showing extreme dis-respect to their culture.

  • humans could fuck up the hole world but not that little stupid rock!!

    hihihihilarious

  • my name is dean :P

  • ...Stoners these days

  • If someone wants to poach a route it should be a stealthy send, not with lots of cameras and your posse. What's up with that?

  • what a pack of shit,

Why can they kick off over this but they cant look at this as a climber seeking a line. Not like hes drilling blots into it and leaving it chalked up.

  • @elmothestar

He rehearsed the climb a number of times. He had a camera man at the top of the arch. Apparently there were numerous rope and chalk marks left. I am a huge Dean Potter fan, just playing devils advocate here. The sad part is that they are now enforcing strict laws against climbing any arches.

  • ah well its not good if there not leaving it as they found it. He is pretty much a legend though.

  • do people even know who Dean Potter is? and I don't see a rope? the thing is only 60 feet, Dean climbed a 3000ft rock free soloing..what the heck.

  • America the land of the free and the fat and the stupid .

  • wtf nobody owns that piece of rock he can do what ever to it ! i think america shold get sued for carving their presidents faces into a sacred indian mountainside

  • @1DARBY1 evreyyone overreacted

  • @1DARBY1 Well said!

  • @1DARBY1 by...who? It's a national park.

  • @1DARBY1 That's not just for fun.. you never watched 'The book of secrets' did you? It's because there is a treasure :O a REAL one.. nooooooo, we're all gonna die... so....

Nice vid though, I'd like to climb it as well :)

  • @1DARBY1 Nobody owns the air we breath or the water we drink, so can I "do what ever to it !" ?

Delicate brings tourism to the state, it lays in a national park, and is one of our nation's most beautiful locations. N. Dakota can carve whatever they want into their mountains, but Arches wants to preserve the natural beauty of Delicate for generations.

Dean only left small marks with his rope, but he set an example for others to do the same and he hurt the reputation of the climbing community.

  • Wow... America once again leave me amazed at the fact that their police force was trying to arrest a guy for climbing a rock arch...

  • people are so petty these days its just a rock for heaven sake, peoples houses are gettin blown up in asia and some1 is whinin about a rock.I dont support any kind of climbing cause its wreckless but jeeez does are some sad people. May God save us all.

  • theres nothing wreckless about it

  • People climb Devils Tower and thats sacred....wtf?

  • what religion is this? what country?

  • ass-erica, home of the fuck-tards

  • what rope ????

  • he climbed a rock!!!??omfg arrest him for life so he gets raped in prison

  • what about animals that crawl all over it should they be arrested too? or maybe we should sparkle it with rat poison just to be sure! looooool... they should comission a big glass cage to preserve it. hahahahahahahahaha.

a clear example of erosion and he gets grief for walking on it, laughable!!!

  • @martarocamora If a deer poops on your doorstep can you arrest him? No. But that doesn't mean you couldn't arrest me if I did so. Human laws abide to human community.

The animals that are on the arch are lizards and beetles. They don't use chalk or ropes (Dean raps off with a rope). They also aren't leaders in the climbing community. A lizard doesn't encourage 10,000 other climbers to follow his footsteps. A lizard doesn't get all climbers banned from climbing in the Park.

  • @martarocamora @martarocamora

Wow you're fucking dumb. If you want, you should go tell the coal fired power plants to boost their pollution because volcanoes do the same thing.

HUMANS CAN MAKE CHOICES AS TO NOT CLIMB SHIT LIKE THIS. I really don't have a problem that he climbed it, but he deserves a little heat for it, and those who say he doesn't deserve some shit for what he did are dumb.

Now a bunch of fucking gumbies will try to climb it, and then literal erosion will occur.

  • i guess it really is delicate

  • What's funny is that arch was actually called landscape arch. But the names got mixed up when they surveyed the area to make maps. the real delicate arch (landscape arch) fell a year or two ago. and delicate arch (really landscape arch) is apparently bomber enough to climb. The inability of white men (I'm one by the way) to admit their wrong is truly comical.

  • @haveUSPwilltravel

Dude Landscape Arch did not collapse, it's still there.

  • @haveUSPwilltravel "Wall Arch" is the arch that collapsed a few years ago. It was within a mile of Landscape Arch, which may be the source of your confusion. Lanscape Arch is still standing.

  • wow that just makes me love the americans even more! ofcourse they should arrest him!!!! he climbed a ROCK a fucking ROCK man. Do him, fucking kill him! string him up!!!!!! That rock climbing bastard grrrr!

  • Only in America folks could he be nearly arrested and chased by the Goverment LMAO

  • lol what a criminal, fuck murder that bastard just climbed a rock ! execute him at once ! lol wtf

  • now thats terrorism arresting you for climing a rock the locals would probably string u up hicks.

  • lol its a rock

  • For climbing a fucking rock? Lmao, what has the world really come to.

  • Hah! Arrested for climbing a rock ffs, Utah is fucked up! Someone shud get up there with a giant penis and whack the fuck out of that thing, rubbing their bollocks all over it. Vid it, and post it on YouTube. :D Then what, utah would get the dude killed? exterminated?! Lmao! :D :D :D

  • I Hope someone blows the thing up now. Arrested for climbing a rock. Fucking American Nazi Police fuk tards. Someone should blow them up too.
