@HoldenN63 ah cool....he is a great player...since he was with manson i thought he was a riff king because his stuff with manson has some awesome metal riffing...his solos are a great but i find he is a bit too repetitive and also his tone sometimes gets annoying....now satriani on the other hand i can listen to him all day....he kicks balls :)

@ponyboymike It's the song "Black Widow of La Porte" from his album The Devil Knows My Name. An album I definitely recommend. It's very dark and has a lot of extreme shredding like this song. It's my personal favorite of his albums. I recommend checking out his other albums too, every one has a distinct charm to it.

Well, bud, I do like of what David Gilmour do with the guitar. Thinking about inpiration, melody, quality, Gilmour is one of the top guitar players of the recent times and my fav. I also really like Joe Satriani´s work with his thematic senteces, every note of him has a place, a meaning and each music of him is binded to a certain context which is real in his life, i like that. Joe certainly understands about inspiration.

@jumbodieger: those were examples, but J5 beating mozart? anyways...i have to disagree on that note pal...sure someone can be easily amused from the "art of shredding" but if you want to pierce music through people's souls...5 notes (depending how they are played) can be more meaningful rather than sweeping arpeggios or tapping....music is much more than that...my friend. @jumbodieger Melodic doesn't have to be slow. Melody just means the music comes together in a pleasant pattern instead of just tapping at a hundred miles an hour and sweep picking for a week.
Like I like the guy, I think he's a fantastic musician, but are you really saying that melody doesn't matter at all? Do you only like the soloing in Black Widow?

Listen to more than one of his songs before you make your decision, please. And ever heard the saying "each to his own"? Why does all guitar elitists talk about how speed doesn't equal melody? What has that to do with anything of what he does? Sure, fast shredding doesn't automatically mean melody, but it doesn't automatically mean bad either. I hear melody in this song, it doesn't have to be a choir of angels descending with an ensemble of violins.

Well, bud, I do like of what David Gilmour do with the guitar. Thinking about inpiration, melody, quality, Gilmour is one of the top guitar players of the recent times and my fav. I also really like Joe Satriani´s work with his thematic senteces, every note of him has a place, a meaning and each music of him is binded to a certain context which is real in his life, i like that. Joe certainly understands about inspiration.

As prophetic and deep you are I'm going to have to disagree with you. Obviously his music is pleasing to some people. He's an incredible guitarist, but that doesn't mean that he has to tend to everyone's musical taste. He has clearly found a musical style that he is good at and he is damn good at it. I'm afraid you can't claim some thing to be pointless because it isn't in your taste

You have a good point, but, It´s not and never been about taste. Regardless taste, Pink Floyd´s Comfortably Numb for instance will always be a diamond, even if I don´t like Pink Floyd, u see? Regardless taste stuff there is what is superb and what is a trash. So, on this standpoint, thinking about quality,medoly,meaning and not only about being fast, it´s clear that this disturbed jhon5 is among the many others who are musically considered trash. No doubt of it! I may like jhon5 (I´m free for it of course), but I can never disagree that this guy is musically a trash. If I don´t have this critical view as a musician regarding what I like/taste than I must know I´m ordinary and maybe poor, but I´m also free to make that choice!

You are wrong on that point. Music is always about taste. Without taste, there wouldn't be different kinds of music, we'd all be sitting listening to the same song. John may not be the most emotional, deep writer (although it's all subjective), but what's wrong with him making good music that people enjoy? Comfortably Numb would never have become a diamond if it weren't for those with the taste to like it. Everyone has their diamonds in music, no album can automatically be that without taste.

And I´m not againist Jhon making music I never stated that and never will! I respect that. I only said that the good music will never be only about my ability of being fast or having good technique.
