  • As President Franklin D Roosevelt once said while introducing Kate Smith.....This is Kate Smith...this is AMERICA!!

  • No one sings this song better than Kate Smith. What a remarkable lady!

  • You children play nice now.

  • Intresting.. my late mother in law Mrs. Mary Germano won a talent show for her singing..on the Ted Mac Amateur Show.. with 8 kids she couldn't do the tour.. so her runner up took her place.. yep Miss Kate Smith.. God Bless America

  • Sofiahaus.....Gracias USA ..........desde Argentina y sin conocerte pero sintiendo la calidez de quienes llegaron de todos los puntos cardinales del planeta y pudieron labrar su futuro, el futuro de esta generosa tierra

  • My Mom passed away 2 weeks ago. She loved Kate Smith and always told me she wanted to meet her. Now I know her wish has been granted. My parents belonged to the greatest generation. My Dad fought in WW 2. They always felt that Kate Smith represented the best of America. How can you doubt that when you hear her sing God Bless America.

  • My Mom just passed a few weeks ago at the age of 85. She loved Kate Smith and always wanted to meet her. Now I know her wish has been granted. My parents belonged to the greatest generation, my Dad fought in WW 2. They believed Kate Smith represented the best of America. After hearing her sing God Bless America, how can you doubt it.

  • And a future president of the U.S. listening to the song at about 4:33

  • From the 1943 wartime movie This Is the Army........a great treasure.......

  • What a gift this fine lady gave to the American people.

With the people feeling abandon and detrayed by the very people we put in our highest office, to find the very first time this song was sung to the American public what a gift. PLEASE EVERYONE POST THIS ON YOUR FACEBOOK.

  • Kate Smith wasn't the "original fat lady." Kate Smith was a marvelous, all American "Star," who's lovely voice united Americans, and filled them with pride. With great Americans like Kate Smith, the Nazis and the Japs didn't have a chance!

  • @chipsher42 We could have done without the "Jap" part.

  • @gotch09 Sorry but it was WAR! And remember who started it!

  • @jimymax58 Well, we aren't at war with Japan now. So what's the excuse for it now. And BTW, an racial slur is still a racial slur, war or not.

  • @gotch09 The film was MADE in 1943., in the middle of the WAR! I can tell you have no backround or knowledge in history. And as you know nothing of history or the time period, why dont you take you PC views and go and learn some HISTORY!

  • @jimymax58 Oh are you special. Do you have a PhD or something? I could probably talk circles around you in my sleep. Dimwit.

  • @gotch09 Like I told you little man I knew all your lame comebacks before you used them. With not knowledge to back you up you turn to personal attacks like all loser. And you are a loser.

  • @jimymax58 Coming out of the gate, I'm a female. Dumbass.

  • @gotch09 Another witting come back. You still dont know your history and your posts have proven it to me.

  • @jimymax58 You are still an ignoramus when it comes to knowing history!

  • @gotch09 Sure I dont have a christal ball.

  • @jimymax58 You're a pitiful little creature, aren't you? Since when is war an excuse to use a racial slur? You're the "expert", you tell me.

  • @gotch09 I know already what your lame come backs will be so just realize that at the time it was not slur. And as I said go learn some history.

  • No one could like Kate did

    What a voice!!

  • This is the original Fat Lady from the well known term: It Aint Over Untill The Fat Lady Sings!!!

  • Nobody can sing like Kate Smith did. I grew up loving to hear her sing . And nobody can belt out God Bless America like she did either.

  • What a song. I am so glad that I live

    in the USA

    Thank You for the post

    Let freedom ring

From Earl in Huntington Beach Ca.

  • I have never stopped feeling this way...sadly I think many have...I have lived elsewhere and I tell you....America will always be my HOME....

  • Let Us Swear Allegiance

    To A Land That's Free....

  • why did he have to rub it in, the dude died in the WAR!

  • We so need someone like Kate NOW to make us feel good again.......we need to get PROUD again to be Americans....We were leaders and friends to ALL the world and respected by all then.....Lets get that back...

  • write your congressman and tell him to vote to audit the federal reserve then to vote it out of existense ,

  • It's a beautiful song. ...

  • This song should definitely be our National Anthem, mainly because normal ppl can sing it without warbling and screeching all through it trying to hit the "high" notes!

  • Kate has pipes from heaven this should be played in schools across America we need to be proud again!

  • Thumbs up, but a lot of people now need to be convinced that 1) there is a God, 2) who He is and 3) that He and not our own cleverness has blessed us. I need no convincing, but how many Americans can say likewise now?

  • There is a God and he will again smile upon U.S. when we find again the right path again!

  • I miss America

  • She was wonderful! She sang the song as it was written! I don't like listening to people sing it & take the music into their own realm. Can't they sing it as it was written? Yup, it SHOULD be our national anthem!

  • Thanks for this, I remember this movie when I was just a kid. God Bless America and Kate Smith and Irving Berlin, for doing this song. Seems to be divine inspiration all around

  • I am old enough to remember when songs had "bridges," as this did. Now everybody is so impatient they want to jump immediately into the main part.

  • Thanks for posting this video, the unofficial national anthem, God bless Kate Smith & America.

  • I have an original "Victor" 78 rpm pressing of this song... and listening to it and this film clip gives me goose bumps. I always thought that this song should be our national anthem. God Bless You! Irving Berlin, and you, Kate Smith!~

  • Absolutely timeless. Look at her face....priceless!

  • This is the video I wanted--Kate Smith in her prime. The last high C goes on for 15 seconds--time it.

Legend has it Kate was an 18 year old understudy in a musical. When the star couldn't perform due to an illness, Kate sang and hung on to a high C for 45 seconds (try that some time with any note). The crowd went wild and Kate was the headliner.

  • The news report intro, the opening lines, and this song are just as relevant today as then. If not more. Thanks so much for posting this film footage and song!

  • God bless Kate Smith and America!
