  • this is one of the cartoons that remained in the back of my mind because i loved watching it so much. all my cartoons on vhs had to be thrown away so i made it my life goal to remember them all and to find them in the future and watch them. i have found this one and being reunited with my childhood has simply at this point brought me to tears. cartoons like this cannot simply be forgotten.

  • I used to see this back in my childhood, gpt the chance to enjoy good cartoons!

  • I'm turning 14 soon... I had this VHS as a kid, and wore it out from watching it so many times. This was, and still is, my favorite cartoon. No contest! I'll always love the classics much more than anything else on TV these days... when I have children, I will make sure they see things like this.

  • The most beautiful cartoon I've ever known.

  • that was lovely :)

  • Also Raggedy Anne's voice changes so drastically when she started singing HAHAHA!

  • I haven't seen this one in years.

  • the music at the end must've came from that one cartoon of the looney tunes where Elmer Fudd was conducting an orchestra while Porky Pig was hunting wabbit

  • Another favorite! My sister often wondered as to how she knew the colors of things if she was blind.

  • Oh. I remember this. How I loved this so much ! In a way I felt like this, but I wasn't blind.

  • these old creppy cartoons made by white people are scary. shyt just creepy as fuck.

  • @evenyscrewd LOL

  • I haven't seen this in over 10 years!! :O

  • The cartoon is very beautiful but the image of what the girls mother looks like in her mind is misgiving considering the circumstances...I would think she would find her beautiful just as she is if she were to gain her sight

  • I've been dying to find this animated short back. I had seen it ages ago when I was little and had quite absolutely no clue to find it back except the plot...

    Thank you!

  • I feel sorry for that Poor little girl. Being blind and everything. I cried the first time I watch this.

  • soon there will be a remake of this in 3D and it will suck

  • That poor little girl.

  • oh I remember this from when I was a kid. I used to watch this when I visited my late grandmother.

  • I HAVE THIS! Where the hell is it D:<

  • Love this!

  • Oh my God..!!!

  • Wow, I remember this, one of the saddest, most depressing cartoons I've ever seen. Also, @skulldini, there's nothing wrong with atheists, and I'm glad to have one in cartoons.

  • this was back before silly slapstick on tv like the flinstones and scooby-doo. don't get me wrong, i like scooby-doo, but it really is a lot of slapstick. and i feel that the animation is worse than these old cartoons. the stuff on tv for kids these days may have better line quality and color, but it doesn't have the same flow and rhythm of the older cartoons.

  • awwwwww I remember watching this when I was little <3

  • that ending with the gunshot is a little creepy, what with the cute music stopping and everything o_O;

  • One of the best old cartoons around.

  • I have this on video tape!

  • I've seen this cartoon dozens of times before, but this is the first time I've seen it with part of the original titles. It always began with the cop carrying the doll over to the tenement building where the blind girl lived, I didn't know until right now that he fished the doll out of the trash, I always assumed he bought a cheap doll at the local five and dime. It's bad enough the kid as blind, he has to expose her to smallpox too? "I'll be back when I find you some nice polio".

  • I may have just turned 15, but I am one of the few people my age who appreciates masterpieces like Raggedy Ann, and not Jersey Shore like my classmates. This made me not tear, but literally SOB. The singing, the girl, her mother, Raggedy Ann, and imagination, which many people today seem to lack. It's just... so beautiful.

  • I'm being Raggedy Ann for Halloween. I have a really cute costume and makeup

  • i always say to my brother... if u were a doll, you would be a faggity ann and he doesnt get it, lol

  • Thumbs up if you cry with happiness at 'You Can See with Your Heart' :')

  • I remember watching this video at my grandmothers house and I would watch it everyday. Brings back memories and it is a very touching cartoon. I still love it!!!

  • Omfg WHAT VHS TAPE WAS THIS ON??? IT HAD OVER A 100 CARTOONS I NEED THE NAME OF IT! :((

  • @honeyxghurl I had one of those tapes it was in a pink case and it was simply called Cartoon Classics. It was the best tape to watch with over six hours of cartoon on it. I don't think it works anymore though its so old.

  • @digigirl986 My mother still has that tape. It works just as well as the day we bought it!

  • @digigirl986 I have that one too!

  • Oh my goodness!!!!! :') Brings back so many memories!!!!! Thanks for uploading!! I use to watch this all the time when I was little!!!

  • i used to watch this at my nanas house:). brings back so many memories.

  • What a cartoon! Why is there such a lack of this kind of creativity on TV now?

Looking at it, this is a really profound message. Just goes to show this wasn't only for kids, and I really like it's ideas.

Newer generations are getting jipped. I really hate what happened to Cartoon Network and the like..kid's shows these days are such a waste.

    ..God I sound old.

  • I used to watch this all the time when I was little. When all my sisters were out for school, and my Dad would go to work, I would sit in my bedroom watching all of the Paramount Cartoon's on VCR's in my bedroom, alone, drinking hot chocolate. Oh, my childhood, how I miss you <3

  • Now just wait a minute: why did the policeman took the doll from a garbage can for from the first place anyway?

  • The Song of The Birds (1935) and this cartoon are very touching. The song at 3:01 always gets me...beautiful T_T

  • My family actually had the VHS of this and I loved it so much! It has become a Christmas tradition to watch it.

  • very touching

  • This was one of my favorite cartoons,! I wonder when it was made?

  • @MyKrishkrish It's on the title (1947)

  • How beautiful were these cartoons. Now at days children got Family Guy, with a main character that is dumb and lazy and a baby who wants to kill his mother. : / How sad the world became.

  • @TheLuminica Family Guy is not a kids show... But anyway today cartoons sucks bad: Chowder, Ben 10, Adventure time and the Winx... But the hope come back with My little Pony: Friendship is magic, that's a great show! And I'm even a nostalgic male!

  • @TheLuminica

Only if parents are foolish enough to let them see family guy, since it's for adults. But yes, cartoons like these are much better than the spongebob type stuff kids are fed these days.

  • @TheLuminica And don't forget, a family dog who's an atheist. Not to mention very bad and cheesy illustrations and animation.

  • @TheLuminica hahahahaha is that really how you see it? kind of naive

  • @TheLuminica Well Family Guy isn't necessarily a show for children though I understand where you're coming from. All the unReality shows.....just complete and utter trash.

  • @TheLuminica the dislikes of your comment and this video prove your statements...

  • I still have this tape!!! :)

  • @nini200777 i remember the one where them 2 people get a makeover and then dance with them robots:)! what the tape called?x

  • This is such a cute cartoon!

  • oohhh,,so this is who nicki minaj was talking about in her tragedy song about little kim,,haha cdfu!!!

  • Good greif, th' times go by! When th' hell did I see this? 'bout 5-6?

  • love love love it

  • I love this cartoon!!!

  • Wow!!! I own a VHS of this somewhere lost in the basement of my house in SPANISH. It was strange to watch it because the voice had to record over the voice in ENGLISH. So when ever the voice in SPANISH would talk, all the music and sound 'miraculously' paused. lolzz!!! i might attempt to put it up!!!

HOW would you convert VHS to YouTube!?

  • never delete this it is such a beautifal movie :') it means so much to me...please keep this

  • I love this cartoon and Raggedy Ann so much. The song Raggedy Ann sings is so beautiful..:) I love it. Very moving cartoon.

  • The little girl is blind!

  • Saw this when I was around three years old, these cartoons did a number on my dreams for years to come but I never knew what caused it until now.

  • I remember this when I was young! Someone preserve this! It's wonderful!

  • aww the girl is blind its so cute

  • how dare someone throw away raggidy ann thats pure evil well at least the nice police man tok her so sweet

  • how dare someone throw away raggidy ann thats pure evil

  • Looks like six people can't see with their hearts

  • Made me cry when I was little, still makes me cry now. Such a lovely little cartoon.

  • Esto es tan hermoso, trae tantos recuerdos bellos de la niñez. Si tienes un corazón muy muy enorme es imposible dejar de llorar.

This is so beautiful, brings so many beautiful memories of childhood. If you have a very very big heart is impossible not to mourn.

  • what is it billy or milly and ho my god she blind

  • @dezkorn I believe it's Billie.

  • Aaaah.... I cry everytime I watch this. The sheer innocence of this cartoon is just stunningly beautiful. ;_;

  • I like how they say "Halloween" and not happy halloween.

  • Saddest and Most Beautiful Cartoon ever Made.

  • What movie was this in? It was about 100 cartoons put together including this one. It was called like 100 cartoons or something.

  • @melaniebaker I HAD THE SAME TAPE! Provided we are talking about the same one...it had a french version of the tortous and the hare, something with hippos, Hansel and Gretel, Little Lulu...some others I can't remember.

  • does anyone know the paramount short also made around this time about the crocodile who had a toothache? or the hippo who was afraid to get his vaccines? i watched them when i was little and i have no idea where to find them!!

  • i used to watch this all the time when i was little. i was so little that i just remember watching it and bits and pieces of the actual cartoon, so of course i never knew what it was called, just that it was raggedy ann. but i finally found it!!

i think there is another one i used to watch that had andy in it and they went around a bakery? or maybe like a candy shop or something...i don't remember. anyone know what i'm talking about???

  • What vhs's have this cartoon been on? If someone could name them that would be awesome. I remember watching this when I was a kid on a vhs that I think had some other cartoons on it like one where a happy couple go into some kind of factory and check out all the stuff being made or something.

  • @VideoGamerDude1 i just bought it on dvd. it was part of a collection of hundreds of old cartoons. it was 6 bucks for the entire 4 dvd set at walmart. i watched it with my mom and my daughter yesterday.

  • Not just the animation, I miss these musicals.

  • Holy crap nostalgia bomb. Thank you so much for posting this.

  • Dobra stara vremena......

  • This is such a sweet cartoon, it has such a sweet sad message. I wish more cartoons served a perpose.

  • which is the original from disney?

  • I remember this cartoon from an old video, but the music itself was in F minor: although the musical pitch of the song in this version still brings a tear to my eye, the F minor version always made me well up more

  • i didnt even know raggedy ann cartoon existed but its cool!

  • ANOTHER GREAT INSPIRATION FOR ANIMES!!!!! =D

Watching these Noveltoons or Harveytoons is like watching Miyazaki or any cute mindfuck anime. =D

  • delightful!

  • Wow, I'm in my 30s and this cartoon made me cry. I love Raggedy Ann. I love it when the boys say, "Halloween, Officer Flanagan!!!!" LOL!!! I'm saying that to everybody this Halloween, just for fun. :)

  • omg i just realized that im dressed up like raggedy ann 0-0

  • @hhysmhk hahahah is it a pain

  • @brb1006 kinda i just got it on for some reason

  • i had this when i was really little and havent seen it in years...then i just thought about it last night

  • @lenadem26 I had it too when I was little, I was watching a tv episode and they brought up Andy and that made me think of this episode :)

  • I was very small when I saw this. My sister was in age when you start saying "yuck" for everything a bit childish you see and it was really dumb when she just kept repeating how stupid this cartoon was even though I enjoyed it. The fact that really made me happy was that my name is a finnish interpretation of "Annie" (sometimes they call raggedy Ann Annie) and the translation of the title had my name in it. :-) Even back then I realized how serious this subject was and this moved me.

  • poor girl. its a shame that shes blind =(

  • I...remember. Where on earth did I see this at? Who could forget that water dancing scene? When you're young, things like this never really leave you

  • I LOVE this raggedy ann me and my bff are being it for the halloween dance bt can u guys go @The autumn sleeps tonight

  • I saw this on a "50 cartoon" video I once had. Definitely a very moving story.

  • Comment removed

  • Hey Mel..I appreciate any video you post but must be real and say I miss the older style vids you made. I guess the mean people out there have made you feel like you can't show yourself anymore...I don't know. Anyway, will always follow you...

  • i cryed to this cartoon, when i heard raggedy an sing i started to remember this cartoon

  • Officer Flanagan was hitting on Billy's mom like crazy. Still one of the most heartwarming cartoons of all time though!

  • @ragingmonkey64

Can you blame him? She's not a princess, but looks just as good.

  • Wow, blast from the past...

  • imaaagination ;)

  • Oh....My....GOD!!!

I rememebr this! I watched it all the time with my Gma at her house when she would watch me when I was little! God I miss her. Thank goodness for memories and these old vids!

    Thank-you! :)

  • @weapon13WhiteFang Thank you! I've got my daughter watching this, as well as a few other cartoons, with my elderly Mom as well. I hope it has the same effect on my daughter.

This is really one of the most beautiful and touching animated shorts of all time.

  • @weapon13WhiteFang Your comment completely sums up what I was about to post ^_^ I used to watch this with my Grandma when she would watch me, too :) I'm so glad this is on Youtube! XD

  • @weapon13WhiteFang Same with me, but I just vaguely remembered it.lol

  • Of course, I don't think it made me want to cry then, lol.

  • this reminds me of an episode of twilight zone almost

  • This is a sweet, precious cartoon!^_^

  • Thank you so much for this. I've been trying to find it for a while now!

  • Monica Geller had the only Raggedy Ann doll that wasn't raggedy

  • WTF 3:01 Raggedy turns from a 6 year old girl into a 30 year old singing woman.

  • T.T crying

  • Makes no sense. Still love it.

  • I remember this cartoon!

  • this was on a tap i used to have as a kid i dont know what happened to it but i think that this should be on dvd whos with me?

  • @redeye007 I've been trying to convince somebody to get this on an authorized release for thee last few years. No success.

  • That song she she sings makes me cry

  • Of the three Raggedy Ann cartoons (those are all I've been able to find), this one is my favorite. LOVE Officer Flannigan's comment at the end.

  • Did people seriously used to just yell, "Halloween!" That seems weirdly random, like greeting someone with, "Birthday" instead of "Happy Birthday" or, "Christmas" without the "merry" at the front of it.

I never saw this cartoon before, and I have to admit, I got a little misty-eyed.

  • @rocketdave Maybe it has something to do with being Irish. After all, they talk like Irish people, right?

  • Thank you for posting i was looking for this cartoon for very long .. thank you ..

  • I never knew this cartoon existed, and I am a Raggedy Ann nut! They don't make cartoons like this anymore.

  • I never even knew this cartoon existed! They don't show it on Boomerang or Cartoon Network!

  • I love this cartoon so much Thank you so much for posting it my mom still has this @ home its good to watch it here I wish Cartoons were like this still

  • Ok so I'm not the only one that cried while watching it! I'm so glad I had this while gowning up

  • @Chelsipie84 I cried and im 26 xD

  • @tweethang1 I shed a tier, for me thats alot..... lol

  • i'm crying. this is beautiful. i'm an elem. ed teacher- def. showing this.

  • @nfaasse23 Please do! Every child should have the best of animation shown to them, and this is one of the best cartoons ever.

  • This video make me cry..i love the song..You can see with your heart

  • This is my all time favorite Raggedy Ann cartoon. I plan on my children growing up on all the classic and disney cartoons...not a lot of the junk thats on tv nowadays.

  • i love this for many yrs, i adore Raggedy Ann, i collect her, what a beautiful message in this cartoon today's cartoons cant even come close*(

  • Oh this brings back such GREAT memories...I remember watching this when I was little and I haven't seen it for a LOOONG time! I'm so happy I found this :D

  • weird eggs? that could be peter cottontail

you'd probably also like babes in toyland
