  • This ad first appeared in early 1966.

  • @fromthesidelines That makes me feel sooooo old. I was just a little kid, but still... makes me feel old. Thanks for the info.

  • No, the expression "good gravy" was around long before. The commercial picked up on the expression. But what I would like to see is their first gravy commercial when it came out in about 1961/62. I still remember that adolescent with the big funny S--t eating grin on his face as he pours himself some gravy during family dinner with the song in the background. I still think it's funny.

  • @medwardb1976 I don't remember that commercial from the early 60's. I'd say it was before my time... but that isn't QUITE true. However, I was small at the time. I was only 3 years old.

  • Wonder if the expression, "Good gravy!" came from this commercial?

  • @gsnfan Now that's a great question... kinda like the chicken or the egg question.

  • Campbell Soup Company marketed Franco-American canned gravy, and spaghetti (including SpaghettiOs, which they introduced in 1965)- several years ago, they phased out the Franco-American brand, and continue to produce them under their own name.

I'm old enough to remember this jingle...

  • Thanks for clearing that up. I always thought that Franco-American was its own company, and that Campbell's, (like so many corporates), had bought them out... but according to this info... they owned them all along. Thanks... I did not know this.

  • @fromthesidelines I am, too, but I won't tell my age, LOLOLOLOL.

  • Wonderful.

  • Um...giblet gravy? I'll take the dry, parched roast by itself, thank you. I think there's a reason you don't see giblet gravy in grocery stores anymore.

  • Yeah, I know why you don't see giblet gravy any longer. I got sick as a dog on it a few years back, and it was home-made gravy. Ended up missing time at work 'cause I couldn't quit tossing up giblets. Yes, they should take the giblets and use them as pot hole patch.
