@MrJoel450 Thank you! Yep, they are great. :) That's rough about A Woman Is A Woman, but for what it's worth, I think Godard titles have a huge chance at getting rereleased by Studio Canal at some point. It won't be Criterion, but I do think that at least it'll be out there....

i own both versions of Ran the dvd by criterion and the BR by studio canal

and it looks better the dvd yea better than a blu ray

@MrJoel450 I definitely agree about Ran! That's one of the reasons that I picked up those titles, just to be safe. heh Plus, some of them won't be released here or maybe at all. They have been vague about that in some cases. But the other Studio Canal Blu's are supposed to look pretty good. I hope that stays true, even so, it's a shame they screwed up something like Ran! I'll be sticking with my Criterion version on that one.

Ran was alredy on pre-oreder 4 the criterion blu ray when it lose the right against studio canal at the last second, i can only imagine how that movie will have look released by criterion on blu ray

There's only one more of them I don't have that I want badly and that's Big Deal on Madonna Street. Guess I'll get it right away and then I won't have to worry about it.... I knew I should have grabbed that sucker during the B&N sale!! I had to have that Yasujiro Ozu movie though... Thanks man! Probably saved me some end of the year strees. heh

Man you've picked up some great crime/underworld Criterion's there that are OOP to boot....love the genre....gangster films from the classic era. @TexTubeGuy I went after those because they had just been announced as going out of print and I wanted to waste no time tracking them down. We all know what happens to Criterion releases when they go OOP! :) I'm still eyeballing a few of the leftover Studio Canal titles I don't have... Makes me nervous. lol Evil Dead is beautiful. I was stunned by how much of an improvement it was. I'm sure you'll enjoy it! Thanks very much man!

Ha ha, DOA is hilarious! Picked up the DVD some time ago. I understand your approach towards "guilty pleasures". I'd personally use the term for me when it comes to movies like that.

The cover of Evil Dead is not really the best imho. The extras disc is only a DVD, right?

I only saw Clouzot's Wages of Fear - and wasn't too impressed with it to be honest.

I like the way they used the original art to make the A in dead. Yeah, it's sort of uninteresting. I very much wish they would have just used the original. Oh well. Still, an amazing release. The extras disc is a DVD. Some of that stuff is like hand-cam at the drive-in, convention footage, etc. Wouldn't matter much if it was HD. heh

@LiveFastDiarrhea The other two Clouzot films I've seen are Wages of Fear and Diabolique. I like Diabolique, but I was also unimpressed with Wages of Fear. The remake, Sorcerer, has been a favorite of mine since it was new! I love that movie so much.... Have you seen that?

@XtroTheMutilator Actually "Sorcerer" is one of the movie that I've been waiting for to be released on a decent (or a Region 2) DVD for-friggin-ever. So far I I was only able to catch parts of it when it was on TV. Some years ago I read rumors that a Special Edition DVD was being produced, but it seems like it never happened.

This was going to be pretty high on the list! The Universal release is decent I think, but yeah, I would LOVE a fully remastered and lovingly presented edition! I hope it happens....

Strong performances. Melville really had something didn't he! Le Samourai stuns me every time I watch it! Bob and Le Trou are already getting difficult to find.... Yeah, I just let it get the best of me this year. Makes me feel down, sad, unmotivated. Getting happier every day now though. :) Thanks so much!

Xtro is back!! Hell Yeah!! I showed all the Corman Classics in my last update and was totally blown away by how well done they are.. seriously awesome that those movies are getting the deluxe treatement. I really enjoyed Iron Man.. definitely need to pick up the bluray... the sequel was really cool too... oh shit.. I didn't even know Evil Dead was released on bluray.. will have to look into it.. but like you said, more releases are on the way haha... (more in next comment)

I didn't know it could ever look that good! So impressive. I've never felt like it was all the way right before. Either overly bright, or smoothed into something odd, or just off somehow (or cropped). I was so happy watching it. It's going to be a well watched disc. No question! :)

I'm waiting for Evil Dead remastered in some sort of weird 3D! You're right it will never ever end. There might be someone on earth collecting every sort of release of that film ever made. A collection of this sort might be worth a bit of money I imagine.

I don't think Quai des Orfevres is pronounced as 'boo' lol!! Excellent Criterions there. They are so expensive to buy over counter here. Thank Goth for Deep Discount.

@AussieRoadshow I thought about that! The 3-D Evil Dead! At this point it wouldn't surprise me at all. They joke in the commentary about getting together again for the hologram version someday. There are definitely enough releases to make that an impressive pile!

@waegiz37 Clint and the boys doing what they do. Top movie! Melville really is something. His crime films are outstanding. There is this style that's sort of a roaring quiet.... Hard to put into words. It's especially true in Le Samourai though. Definitely worth looking into!

@chrisco1969a I did see that cable remake of Piranha, and Humanoids From The Deep also, I think there was more but I can't remember for sure. Haven't seen Mega-Piranha yet. I'm sure I'll catch it sooner or later! Kelly's Heroes is a classic, but adding in Donald and all that stuff about 'negative waves man' was just.... Awesome. For DVD Players I have the region free thing covered, not for Blu-Ray though. Not sure what'll happen there. Thanks!

Finally, Piranha on BluRay, I have been looking for that movie forever so I will definitely have to add that to my collection alongside Galaxy of Terror and Forbidden World, though I have to ask, did you get a kind of Forbidden Planet vibe from Galaxy of Terror? Because after watching it i really did with it. Maybe I was just reading too much into the themes/overtones presented in the film. Otherwise thanks for the great update.

I probably never would have put those two movies together in any way on my own. That's interesting. What exactly about Galaxy started you thinking about F.P.? @XtroTheMutilator The connection I saw, was really one where all the crew are attacked by creatures from their subconscious minds and fears similar to how the creature in F.P. was from Morbius' dream state/ id. Then how the pyramid was a training toy for the youngsters of the alien race to "harness the powers of their minds and overcome their fears." similar to the Krell. It didn't really strike me until the near end of the movie, when he fights the Master and how he has to die to "free" them.

@XtroTheMutilator F.P. is another one of those movies that I hope is never remade or touched, it has stood on its own as one of the titans of the sci-fi movie genre with its haunting score and at least in my opinion haunting depictions of some of the most primal fears of man and that despite the mask of civility he may try to wear man is always a savage beast in the torrent that is his mind. But at least it shows that mankind will still explore and try to understand when faced with danger.

@MajorMontanaMax Well said. A lot of people hold a certain reverence for that movie, which I agree is deserved. There's good reason it was part of the Criterion library back in the days of LD. That's some of why I'm very surprised a remake hasn't already happened. I think it's good it hasn't.... So far. Hardly can wait to pop that Blu-Ray in, kill the lights, and just go for the ride. Especially after this conversation!

I am supposed to go see Piranha 3D this weekend with my gf so I will have to see how it turns out I have heard mixed things. Otherwise, I picked up a martial arts film "The Good, The Bad and The Weird" haven't watched it yet but it seemed worth checking out.
