  • Great...

  • 23 people don't understand the technical skill required to play something like this that FAST

  • I have to play this for my trumpet lessons.

Thank god I don't have to play it this fast....

  • like

  • This kind of tings is really different for me.

  • so freaking tight man, this combo is so sick!

  • indescriptible...

  • Fantastic tune! Wonder who the tenor saxophonist is; he's roasting big time!

  • I got new for you. That is not Charlie Parker, and thats NOT an ALTO SAX. Thats some cat on TENOR SAX.

  • @Carlinhosviolao This isn't Dizzy playing. It is a record made for his 80th birthday (Dizzy lived to be 75), so it was a tribute to him. the players are: The Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Stars: Andres Boiarsky (vocals, tenor saxophone); Jon Faddis (vocals, trumpet); Cyrus Chestnut (vocals, piano); John Lee (vocals, bass); Ignacio Berroa (vocals, drums); Antonio Hart (alto saxophone); Gabriel Machado (congas); Duduka Da Fonesca (percussion). The record is from 1997.

    AboveLawFan1992

  • Boiarsky, gran saxofonista argentino.

    Jon Faddis - trumpet

    Andres Boiarsky - tenor sax

    Cyrus Chestnut - piano

John Lee - electric bass (by the sound of it)

    Ignacio Berroa - drums

Thanks to my FB friend Antonio and shazam software.

  • @FernandOrtizdeUrbina when I heard first few notes, I knew it's something too young to Dizzy... Oh, and shazam rocks! I use it all the time :)

  • @FernandOrtizdeUrbina i think you nailed it

  • @FernandOrtizdeUrbina Trumpet player does a great job, then. It's a fitting tribute to Diz, has his style and flair in there.

  • Human civilization reached its peak in 1947. jrs

  • Solos a cargo de STAN GETZ, JOHN LEWIS . DIZZY GILLESPIE, MAX ROACH ; no entiendo por qué han puesto tantas fotos de CHARLIE PARKER ,que aquí no toca .

  • tight

  • is this "last minute swing"?

  • So who knows who these guys are?

Trumpet has far more chops than Dizzy developed.

Tenor sax and not close to Parker's style.

Drummer's bass drum work and approach are post Tony Williams.

In any case, way excellent! Thank you for posting this!!

  • @tommymorey

  • @alexp9999 It'll be! It's weird how I only read two books by him, and he's already my favorite writer...

  • Every time Dizzy starts playing I cream my pants. How "orjazzmic"..

  • jon faddis is protege to the master Dizzy.

  • Indiavolato!

  • @NoDoyPieConBola Toda tuya, che! Gracias por el gran comentario ...la música es para compartirla

  • where can i get the notes?

  • this drummer's sick!!!!!!!!!!

  • This tune sounds a lot like "Things to Come". Maybe Diz got inspiration from his earlier tune.

  • Good Grief! The tune is old, the images are old, but trust me, Bud Powell, Max Roach and Dizzy didn't emerge from the crypt to play this smokin' version of "Bebop".

  • Wow. That just put a smile on my face.

  • What's up with 1:02. It's like a skype sound is troughout the song. Realy annoying.

  • dayummmmm lol this is just,, holy crap amazing!

  • Hey guys, this is from a cd called "The Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Stars - Dizzy's 80th Birthday Party."

    Drummer - Ignacio Berroa

    Trumpeter - Jon Faddis

    Hope that clears things up.

  • You right, and everybody who wrote Faddis, Thanks a lot to all for coment and value.

    Regards!

  • @Peruanas0 I met Mr. Faddis in Milwaukee at UWM. He played with us and he is one of the best you could meet.

  • @packerfan413 Lucky. I whish tu hear that session one day. Is fantastic how the man play the trumpet.

  • @MrLittlesunflower

I kinda figured this recording couldn't been that old. The sound is to crisp and of course the dolby stereo sound... Thanks for clarifying that...

  • @MrLittlesunflower yeah.. Jon. I've met him personally.. Great guy, great jazz trumpeter :)

  • Bueno ya, al final quien es??

  • 2:35 How orgasmic!

  • @LodewijkRes I was actually really liking 2:25 all that pedal shit

  • @LodewijkRes OMG i have to ring out my panties XD

  • the band sucks

  • when did jon faddis play with Max Roach? there must be a drummer who plays like Max Roach exactly who I do not know.

Plus this is Dizzy Gillespies tune,

  • Faddis for certain. Definitely NOT Dizzy.

  • no jon faddis was too young, this is dizzy gillespies tune. John Faddis played in the 1970s with Dizzy but this is 1943-44.

this is the beebop era and dizzy was one of the five founders of the genre.

Jon faddis emulates Dizzy a lot he likes the high octave notes.

  • YOU ARE FUCKING RETARDED. STFU it is jon faddis...i own all his records. even if u didn't know what diz and jon sound like (which obviously u dont), u should be able to tell from the fact that it is a fairly recent recording. All i can say is FAIL

  • No, this is a newer band... no way this was in the 40s... This has to be at least early 70s... I vote Jon Faddis... because his solos are more coherent LOL Dizzy is just TOO FAST for me sometimes!!!!

  • DEFINITELY JON FADDIS..... there is no doubt in my mind

  • Sorry...I don't believe that is the great Bud Powell playing piano on this recording.

As far as I know there is no recording of them playing this song together. Can you cite this album?

  • He's not Bud Powell, but here is his pic because he was one of the pioneers of the Bebop wave.

    Regards

  • sounds like bud

  • @soloraze the only album where Powell, Gillespie, and Parker played together is Jazz at Massey Hall.

  • @freekazoid8489

Actually there is at least one other recording with those three if you really dig for it.

    peace
