Love them or hate them, you probably wouldn't have Rancid if it wasn't for Operation Ivy. Hell you wouldn't have any of the bands of today or from our youth if it wasn't for the Sex Pistols, the Clash, The Ramones and countless others. It doesn't mean one band is better than the other, thats open to interpretation. Blink (More so Tom) was heavily influenced by The Descendents, its hard to really compare them to Blink.

That being said, you mentioned blink as being "Punk Rock". In what way? In their message and lyrics? Sound? In my Opinion (and I'm only speaking for myself) but "Punk Rock" died in the mid 90's. Sure there's elements of Punk Rock in many bands today, but as a genre, I'm not so sure. But alot of that is due to the media and pop culture, shoving generic "Pop Punk" down our throats.

It is quite possible to enjoy a band without comparing them to where they may have been birthed from. Growing up in the mid-late 90's, I was a huge fan of At the Drive-In, which at it's end spawned The Mars Volta and Sparta, both bands I enjoyed. Or even Mike McColgan leaving The Dropkick Murphys, only to come back and start up Street Dogs. The list goes on... Instead of matching the past to the present, you should take every band for what it is and appreciate the past. Blink, AVA, Boxcar, +44..
