  • I don't know much about astronomy, but isn't this supposed to be a common thing being Mercury so close to the Sun and rotating so fast around it, or is it that its plane is so inclined that it is really rare for Earth and Mercury to coincide for us to see it?

  • why do they even call mercury a planet?????? its smaller than some of jupiter and saturns moons!

  • Because it orbits the Sun, and not a planet, but I certainly get your drift!

  • @cazle6

There are plenty of moons in our solar system that would be considered planets if they were not orbiting another planet. No matter the size, if it orbits another planet, it is a moon. Mercury fits all of the criteria to be a planet, even if its size is rather close.

  • not nearly as dramatic as the scene from Sunshine. :p (lol)

  • That's definitely one of the best videos I've seen on YouTube. Many thanks!

  • Thanks for the kudos.

  • what is the name of the song? it is cool

  • "Center of the Sun" by Conjure One. It's sung by Poe. The remix done by Solar Stone is even better. The whole song's pretty amazing.

  • thank you for the info. 5 stars

  • its on my birthday too! ^^

  • Yay on my birthday ^^

  • ohh now i get it.. mercury is the black spot !

  • r u tryin to say that mercury spins ?! and gets smoky and has black spots ?

  • the little dot is mercury? and the rest is the sun?

  • No it does but actualy u cant see this in this short movie. In this short movie u only see the sun moves slowly throught the lense from the left to the right and so those Mercury. If you realy want to see how mercury moves you need to exactly follow the sun for about an hour and than make a timeframe.

  • Mercury isnt moving the sun does.

  • So, Plpoo, you don't think Mercury orbits the Sun?

  • what this video is trying to say?? mercury is small??

  • hey! it's moving! coooool!

  • awesome video! great resolution, want to see some more, will join in on your webcasts next time. thanks

  • cool ..so small

  • this is so cool....I just saw it with the projection of shadows with a telescope

  • This video is a work of art. It is beautiful. The crew who captured this transit is up to something profound and we are all fortunate to able to participate.Witnessing this is a soul moving experience. Thank you forall the efforts at making this happen. sOOOO cool.

  • Fantastic thank you ..

  • Most interesting, Mercury so small compared to the sunspot! Cool stuff.

  • Great picture quality between the clouds.

  • Amazing. I cant wait to join in on your webcasts.

  • Nice. Who invented this universe?

  • Lord Jesus Christ.

  • When did he tell you? Give me his contact info. (Phone number, address, website, etc.)

  • It's mentioned in the beginning of Genesis in the Bible if you don't believe me and continue to mock.

  • Also it's mentioned in I John 1:3 too.

  • Great! I had never seen a Mercury transit before.

I gives you an ideia of how small Earth or Mercury are in comparison to the Sun.

The good music compensates for the moments of poor visability ;-)

    Thank you, people from Astrochannels.

  • super cool.
