Animals caught in snares tend to panic and thrash violently until they either injure themselves too badly to move or they get exhausted. I suspect after a night spent hanging in the net, the owl was in no condition to put up more than a feeble fight. Since the ornithologist was holding the owl's talons down and owls don't fight with their beaks, I imagine the owl just submitted passively because he was too tired and confused to get mad.
@Saphruikan yeah they are amazing one time we seen a small owl on a bridge staring at the water under the bridge not worried about us beeing there at all they seem to have there own personality
I just had the same thing happen this morning . Like a dummy I tried it with no gloves and paid for it with 3 talons burried in my hands. I was still able to free her up uninjured . She flew away like nothing happened. Check out my video.
I always find it amazing how animals seem to "know" that someone is trying to help them.
The owl was obviously scared, but he didn't try to squirm or get away once while they were cutting him free.
Great work by everyone involved!

@Gimpdiggity You're anthropomorphizing.

In the beginning he's staring at the camera defiantly, but curiously too. These birds are so amazing.
