Yes once again Dave proves that he does know it all :L just look what has happend a band call black veil brides... oh dear but Dave keep rocking and keeping the true metal music alive :D
even pantera started of as a glam band !!! i think dave is a lil upset that glam music sold 50X what megadeath did, and while dave and the boys struggle to play 1500 seat theatres, glam bands still pull in huge crowds. not all glam bands were good, kiss would be the biggest of them all. at the end, bands like kiss, alice cooper inspired many of todays metal bands.. glam or not, most glam bands had some really good songs...
@mammo8369 pantera was not glam they just looked it , have u ever listen to early pantera ? probably not if youre putting them in the same genre as like poison mid 80s crue n such...glam was pop metal something pantera never was
@mammo8369 I don't think people have a problem about Pantera being glam, before CFH. Pre CFH Pantera was some pretty good music. Sounded like a cross between Def Leppard and VH. I think people have a bigger problem that they denied ever being a GLAM band. Dimebag finally admitted it, right before his death.
@rip2shred good point. there isnt anything wrong with glam. it had its place at that point in time, it wasnt something that stood the test of time but hey...we got some catchy songs from a few bands
@rip2shred They never denied it, how could they, the albums were already out there. The reason they didnt like to talk about it was because theyd moved on. Dime never denied his glam roots. One of his biggest influences was KISS for example.
@dre79ful Maybe if the "Panterrible" page was still up, that would show you Pantera was denying it. Anyhow I never considered KISS a glam band, but a shock rock band. And yes, GLAM started with the NY Dolls, and was overdone in the 80s Hollywood scene.
Dave's sardonic wit is funny and its cool he has an opinion, but in fact glam had its rightful place for the time and scene that it thrived in. If glam wasnt around bands like Kiss wouldnt have inspired generations of metal bands that came after glam.
One thing I was told back in the 80s by club promoters was to keep our opinions to ourselves in regards GLAM scene. I remember telling Chris Holmes that I hated Motley Crue, because they didn't like us much either. BTW I was in SST Overkill. We played with Slayer, WASP, Malice, and a host of other bands coming up that time. We also split up before our big break was afforded to us.
In high school during the 80s, we used to joke around that the guys in the glam bands look like Peggy Bundy from Married With Children. They had the same ridiculous teased up hair, spandex leopard pants, makeup, and a shitload of jewelry. It was just disgusting. I still can't figure it out. Somehow they were hugely popular back then, but they have not stood the test of time. They are just remembered as a weird trend that came and went.
@devil0448 I was part of L.A.scene in 82 - 83. My bass player and singer were wearing makeup, while the drummer and I were not. It was really bad for my band, Slayer, and Metallica. I played in the West Coast Overkill. The Current Over Kill had not even established themselves yet.
@devil0448 How is it gay? The LA strip was full of women trying to have sex with the guys that were wearing makeup and dressing flamboyant. Woman find that attractive and still do. The thrash scene was a huge sausage fest.
@StanHowser It's "gay" L.A. metal because the music was for pussies. Hence, why women loved it. The gay Dave is reffering to is that the guys in Glam looked, sang and dressed like bitches. I'm sure the guys thrash bands would rather have a bunch of whores in the audience rather than a sausage fest but for some reason most hot chicks don't like really angry agpressive music.
What about Van Halen?
NinjaRodent 2 days ago
@NinjaRodent They are Hard Rock. Not glam metal. VH set the standard for many guitar players.
DioandMaiden 1 day ago
@NinjaRodent In fact Dave Mustaine spoke very highly of Van Halen after their first release in a You Tube video.

@mammo8369 I believe he is refering to the motley crue era glam.

@mammo8369 It has nothing to do with that. Kiss and AC were hard rock bands. He's talking about MC and Poison amongst others.
