Back then many TV appearances were lip synched, but there were plenty of live performances as well. Also fairly common was to the sing lead vocal on a live mic (or bv's or a particular instrument) over the original track. Which seems to be the case here, though the fidelity is poor and hard for me to tell. On Ed Sullivan, sometimes new backing tracks were recorded for the artists to sing over. It depended on the particular show I suppose. Lotsa examples of each of these types all over Youtube.
This show is most likely 66, in L.A.It's an American audience. I was a young dj out there. Studios did not have the tech set up for live sound acts. Too many acts on one show too, sometimes 15 at a time. I suspect that 'surfer' dude type shirt (as I lived there then-that was the style) . Probably Shindig or Hullaballo. They were in L.A. a lot that year.
At 3:18 mick turns his head from the mike, but overall not a bad lip synch! Just a guess on my part. Back then a lot was lip synched, but unusual for a concert. Any thoughts?
I seem to recall from a book I read on the Stones ages ago that they played this and 4 other songs on a tv show in Australia in early 1966.. maybe that is it???
@symonfilm 1966. the Bandstand special of the 17th of February 1966 that went to air on the 20th of February 1966. Bandstand was a programme on Channel 9 at Willoughby.

For all the people saying lip synched, I hope you know most of the 60s televised stuff was.
